I think with Campbell and Paille gone, it strengthens the need for a player like Eriksson. Like them or not, Soup and Pie-ayy did a lot of heavy lifting on the kill and in the defensive zone. Taking a solid 200 foot player like Eriksson out of the picture does not help a team that I thought struggled badly on the PK and in the defensive zone. If you can sign LE for 5 mill per, I think you try to do it... unless of course all you look at is his goal production and expect to see Tyler Seguin. But don't forget Loui was still 2nd in points and 3rd in goals. According to the chart above, even though some hated his contract, he was still the best value forward who logged big minutes.

I really doubt that Loui will settle for $5M per year. Maybe if he suffers another concussion, but then he would be lucky to even get $3M...

I don't get your perspective.
If 2 series winning goals in a Cup year should be proper perspective...Horton is the greatest player in decades. I doubt Gretzky can match that.
Steve, who on earth is comparing Horton to 99? You are, if you think "proper perspective" is defining Hortons time here, by "2 series winning goals" in a Cup year.

When comparing Horton's time here with that of Iginla's or currently Eriksson's then yes two series winning goals on a run to a cup is much more valuable than what the other two have accomplished. I am happy Iginla got 30 with the team and Eriksson seems to have overcome his concussion side effects...but I will take two series winning goals and a resulting cup to decent regular season stats any day.
Your 99 hyperbole is more than a little thick...
