And unbelievable he’s a -1, think the leafs have 3rd worse goals against. Who cares if your the 80s Oil. But I think TOs offensive will dry up The first two weeks of the season have been the most lifeless hockey I've watched in some time. The new nhl isn't fun to watch, no hitting, no fighting, no passion, no rivalries, no anger, no compete. The Leafs got off to a great start last year too. Their def isn't good, it was exposed badly in the playoffs last year and Matthews was a complete waste of space on ice in the playoffs. I will never question his mitts, but wow did he float a lot. I agree, need some rivalries, they're is some great talent on the ice, need the league to step up. I know with all the concussions they can never go back to 80's/90's and before but if I were the NHL I'd be looking at how fast the UFC became a money making machine and would stop trying to get fighting out of the game. Get the old division format back, develop some hate and your league will benefit.
The same people who used to cry how the NHL was to thuggery don't do that when it comes to the UFC. Why?, because they watch it.

There has been some dull stretches during the games I’ve watched to, but I thought there was some big checks in the oil game. Maybe if it wasn’t Mcdavid blasting around chara but he’s very exciting to watch. Pastas goal made me jump out of my seat. Once the Bs play the leRfs there will be some animosity with them having something to prove. I think we’ll see the same thing against the tampons. btw, glad to have your return! Hope you had a great summer, if you get one up there

Oh yeah, it won't take long before the fireworks breakout between the B's and Bolts and TO, it may take awhile but it'll happen. Any team that has Kadri or Paquette on it and Marchy on the other, something will happen.

I just want the complete game and right now it seems to be like pre-season is still going. As San said it will pick up.

Interesting that he took 4 years at the highest AAV by $600/yr. Two ways to read that: "Hey, LivingTree? I'm giving you 4 years to get me a title. Don't fuck it up or I'm gone." Vs "You know that I know that you know that I know that we all know the Cap is going to shoot up over the next 3-4 years. You want to sign me for 8 years, I want $15.5/yr. Otherwise, I'll see you in 5 years. Leafs will actually have a LOT of money available even with this deal and depending on Nylander, but the only D they have signed for next year (24-25) are Reilly, Jake McCabe and Connor Timmins. No goalie signed other than Woll. I really thought Buston would walk on them.

Too much can happen over the course of 5 yrs, especially to a bigger player like him. I'd have guaranteed myself an extra $53 mill. It's not worth that risk of missing all of that for what an extra $12mill maybe? Is someone going to pay him 16 per yr at 31/32 years of age? Not sure about that. Now if he said, TML I've failed you and I want to deliver you a cup before I move back to America, then I respect that more.

And he has a history of injuries. He's only played 71 or more games three times in 7 years. But he's not an especially physical player so it's not like he'll have a Lucic like fall off. Could be right that Toronto made a safe bet here. On the other side, the Cap will be something north of 102 mil by the time he's up again. The same percentage of the Cap would put him over $16M at that point. And he could well be like Ovechkin in that he's a goalscoring freak of nature. I thought the 10x10 deal Ovie got was going to sour but he basically got an extension at the same oay for four years. Could be good for both side purely from a value for the player perspective. But they will screw it up somehow. The tirefire on the Lakeshore will burn forever.

Matthews could’ve gone for the jugular here but decided that he’s good with being the big fish in a small pond (compared to a major US market)…. Also gotta give it to him to be willing to stay and take the heat, playing in hockey’s media capital, which will come if he’s unable to deliver Lord Stanley to the Laffs in the next five years….

Matthews could be seen as saying that the Loafs have 4 years to finally get some good defense and a goalie that won't choke in the playoffs. Matthews could also force a trade in two years. Either way the pressure is on the Laffs. Matthews can leave if he isn't satisfied.

If Matthews’ main concern was lifting Lord Stanley he wouldn’t have resigned with a team that’s won but one playoff series since his arrival…. Right now I think he’s just happy making top dollar while being the most recognizable athlete in Canada’s sports Mecca…. Nothing wrong with that either….

Matthews could have made top dollar in free agency. And could have signed in a state where there low taxes. Half his games could have been almost zero playing in Texas or Florida. Think teams in those states wouldn't have moved money out to sign Matthews ? Buston gave himself time to leave if TO continues to eff up. Matthews isn't dumb and now has showed he likes Toronto. While still getting a pat contract. Plus still force himself out if he needs too.

And of course he would’ve made even more money playing in a US market had he chosen free agency…. And I predict he’ll play out his deal with the Laffs whether he hoists the cup or not….

Nostrils re-signing with the LeRfs wasn't that surprising, everyone seems to forget the pull of the Justin Bieber factor, duh!

Auston Matthews is top 3 in all time goals per game among players that have played 500 games or more. #Buston Attachments:IMG_1121.gif.webp (850.54 KB)

The LeRfs definitely need his scoring to cover up that tending and Dcore. The big question though is does Nostrils backcheck, hah!!
