Interesting question. He is simply not built for the bottom 6 as a checker. And I am sure his trade value is minimal. Classic AHL lifer?Maybe, but i do think he has a future in the NHL, he did snipe a few beauty gls and he can skate pretty well, i just don't think he fits with the B's currently. Like you say he isn't really a prototypical 4th liner. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a 3rd line role as long as he has an offensive minded center with him to create offense. He plays smart, scrappy hockey and unlike a lot of our guys over the past few years seems to have some finish to his game. He was forced into that 1st line role when in reality he was not, nor will probably ever be, suited for the 1st line. However as a 3rd line winger I bet he could put up 15-20 goals which is more than Kelly has put up in the past two years. He produced right away in the AHL and forced them to put him on a scoring line in Providence. He seems to be an over-achiever who is able to be successful despite being relatively small and slow --- good hockey IQ and finish can go a long way though. Key with the Bruins is if he can clear the puck out of his own zone --- if not, he doesn't have a chance on CJ's Bruins

Ferlin & Florek are more suited to 4th line play, and unless one of the aforementioned players are traded, then there is no room for Seth.

I really like his skill set. I really don't like his attitude. Dirty plays and dumb penalties have been his MO since Junior. Tampa may have ditched him because he has lousy character and I could see Boston doing the same. Doesn't mean I don't have high hopes for him though. If he gets a chance to play in the top-9 he could easily be a 25-goal guy. Personally I'd sign him for 2 years on the cheap, play him good minutes and then swap him at the deadline if I thought he was negative personality. A 23 year old 25 goal scorer with a decent contract would fetch quite a bit in trade. I'm with you OC. The talent is there but from what I've seen in his brief tenure is that there may be a good chance this kid is just a me-first, dumb as a box of rocks player. Took some real stupid penalties and the fact TB seemed pretty eager to get rid of him for small return. That should raise some red flags. BUT...maybe he was just a bit immature (with an early run of injuries) and is ready to solidify himself as a legit top 6 power forward. He certainly can snipe, skates pretty good from what I've seen, and has the prototypical build you want in black and gold. One thing is for sure, and that is that we really have no idea what he's capable of. The broken hand really fucked up the evaluation process. Very eager to see what the kid can do and am hoping for great things. Cam Neely had a shitload of dumb penalties and was considered a hot head coming out of Vancouver. And he only had a pedestrian third linesque total of goals. Put into the right role and with some confidence, who knows what this guy's ceiling is. In short, I am eager to see what this kid has got to offer.

To be sure Luc, I remember Cam's early career here well, and I'm not saying that Connolly will be a bust, any more than I'm saying he's gonna be the next Neely. The potential is certainly there (for either scenario) but from his brief audition I don't think anyone on this board came away overly impressed, especially since he took 5 mostly dumb minors in 5 games. I'll assume that was somewhat of an aberration. This isn't BDC so I think most agree that we'll wait and see what the kids got before we make our judgments.

But there is nothing tough or scary about Connolly thus far, unless he's hitting someone from behind in the head. I'm all for nasty tough players who take some penalties but that's not BC.

Plan B is a luxury in a cap world unless it's a guy like Griffith or you turn the roster over. I don't think Tampa seemed eager to get rid of Connolly. Apparently it took all year for that deal to get done - Yzerman stuck to his guns? Or PC did? In any case, it wasn't Yzerman finding his patsy. Put it this way, i hope Pasta, Connolly & Smith can grab the bull by the horns and we won't have to watch Griffith as a plan B. I actually have no idea where Griffith fits if all goes according to plan and all the other RW's work out. 4th line? Trade? I think he plays out his contract and then hits the bricks unless the Bruins can find a minor league trade partner for him. Like so many players, this would make him the victim of circumstances. Not quite NHL ready when the perfect opportunity came up, but no opportunity when he tries to learn from that experience.
Life's a bitch, Seth.

At worst, it's a show-us-your-best competition, as 50below says, amongst 4 guys to seize a coveted RW role on this roster. Show the goods. It should be Smith's to lose for "top 3" duty; let's see if he steps up.
