2nd line... Coach: Dave Lewis Goalie:Jim Carey..always need a local kid in the nets. Defense: Matt Irwin, Gary Doak. I was tempted to double shift Franson but wanted some shot blocking, head-first style from Doak. Forwards: Randy Burridge, Dwight Foster, PJ Stock....This is the Flair, Flow, Fire em up line. By the time, I finished writing this, Matt Irwin was released, so Franson is back on the ice. If you’re choosing a team consisting of slugs, you should remove Burridge…. He played liked a Tasmanian devil and had some offence to his game….

OK, I assumed we're choosing a team with roles etc. and not just the top 4 scoring C, Ws etc. Here's what I have. These are all guys I saw play, and the decisions are based on what they did in their time in Boston, so as much as I might have liked peak Tocchet, his short time in Boston wasn't that. However, there are some guys on this list who I saw for only the back half of their careers, and I am taking their full time in Boston into account.
Line 1: Bucyk-Esposito-Middleton. The franchise's all-time goals leader had the longevity but also general numbers with a 116 point season and a career 0.93 points/game average. Espo. Nifty over Neely here because I want a little more slick to go with the straight ahead games of his linemates. They'll give him a lot of room to operate.
Line 2: Cashman-Oates-Neely. I fucking love this idea. No defenseman in the league feels safe on a dump in, and once this group retrieves the puck, it will be mayhem around the net. Oates over Ratelle because he only played 50 fewer games than Ratelle in the spoked B, and he scored 45 more points while playing a similarly smart, elegant game. And he was Cam's C for a while.
Line 3: Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak. BLiH.
Line 4: Lucic-Linseman-O'Reilly. Sweet Mary and Joseph, I would love to see this trio come over the boards as a Bruins fan. Linseman was one of the smartest players of his era, and he played with Gretzky. Lucic and O'Reilly both had just enough skill to hurt you on the scoresheet if you gave them room to avoid getting bruised, and to play with an elite playmaker like Kenny. Lucic in particular was always under-rated as a passer. And that trio deployed when you need to crank the emotional temperature to 110 degrees? Mahvellous.
Top Pair: Orr-Bourque. But Book, they're both left shot D! Fuck off. It's Ray Bourque and Bobby Orr. I'll play them 45 minutes a night and they'll swap sides so many times you won't know your left from you right.
Second Pair: Z-Park. But Book... (see above).
Third Pair: Seidenberg-McAvoy. Dennis, in his time in Boston, was a lights out shut down defender who put up points like a second tier PMD. Both guys can thump you, both can move the puck, and the best of McAvoy is still to come. Once he wins his Norris, this lineup will have a Norris winner on every pairing.
Goal: Tuukka, Cheevers.
Popcorn Row: Tim Thomas, Jean Ratelle, David Krejci, Glen Wesley. Kluzak would be great but I can't put him ahead of Wesley.

Even Matt Irwin carved out a decent career for himself as long as he didn't wear the spoked B. I just needed Burridge in there for his goal scoring celebration. He is clearly the best of the lot unless you are talking high school (in which case Carey gets the nod)

Besides having four of the greatest left-shot d-men in league history, Chuckie’s probably the only right-side d-man to figure in the B’S top 10 defensemen of all time…. Since Eddie Shore, of course….

After the 92' Olympics. Donato-Juneau-Heinze line might get an honorable mention. Murray-Thornton-Knuble should get a shout but still outside a top-4 line starting position.

I love...absolutely love...that this is the first time anyone has mentioned the name of JTS, and it's to say that his best years as a Bruin get a mere shout out outside the top 4.

Wow, time really goes slower when you are a kid. Joey Juneau was one of my all-time favorites as a kid. Used to go to the card stores (remember those?) and buy all his individual cards as a Bruin and Capital. Just looked him up, shocked he was only a Bruin for three years and that first year hardly counted.

Marchand-Bergeron-Neely Burridge- Krejci-Pastrnak Samsonov-Thornton-Middleton Crowder-Oates-O'Reilly Bourque-Chara McAvoy-Sweeney Boychuk-McQuaid Thomas Rask These have been fun to read. If I ever come across a genie in a bottle, after getting rich and laid by my celebrity crush, I am asking for a complete NHL season where every team can bring back any player from their history in their prime and watch who wins the Stanley Cup. That would also settle the debate if say Gretzky is an all world generational talent that would succeed in any era, or did he take advantage of poor defense and goaltending of his times.

He never hit 20 goals in a season after leaving the Bruins, but he did have 85 points in 74 games the year he was dealt, and he missed the point/game mark the next year when he and Bondra teamed up - Juneau with 5 goals and 38 assist, Bondra with 34 goals and 9 assists. I loved defending against teams lines like that, as lousy a player as I was. You know what's coming every time. I loved that two thirds of that line were RPI grads.
