Starting to look like quite a draft pick at #54 overall... Can't Morgan persuade his brother to refuse playing for the 'Yotes? Like, force them to trade him to the B's for JDB & Grz...
Wouldn't that be something, a one-two punch at center of Conor Geekie and Matthew Poitras?

Tone Locmelis with 3 assists as Latvia beat Germany 6-2. Stupid mistake by the Latvian goalie on Germany's first goal, tried to catch the puck that's coming towards his right shoulder. Should have just used his blocker.

Tone Locmelis with 3 assists as Latvia beat Germany 6-2. Still Team Canada can ill afford to underestimate the Germans tomorrow. They beat Finland (they probably still don't know how they did it) because the Fins thought they had the game in the bag.

Stupid cut back by Pooter in the German game. When a guy is about to check you along the boards, you don't cut back. Leaves you so vulnerable. I hope he doesn't keep doing this in the NHL. Not going to survive long.
Not sure I understand what is and isn't a good hit these days.
Go Canada Go.

Typical German strategy (shots currently Canada 32, Germany 14) - stay back, defend (and stick foul like hell) and wait for chances to counter attack. Worse than New Jersey under Lemaire.

Poitras very noticeable this game, from taking a couple bad hits to being very active with the puck, taking shots and creating chances. It looks like Canada has salted this one away.

Looked like Bruins' Poitras to me in this one. Slow it down, control the puck, make things happen. Whole bunch of rapid fire chances around the net for Canada when he was on, just like with Boston. Set up the winner on the PP. Solid game, and without both guys who were supposed to be his linemates.

They need more structure against the Czechs in the QF. Haven't seen any of the Czechs games (hopefully no DK types in this year's group) but yes, they are going to have to be much cleaner, and not take so many penalties. I do like what I see in Poitras. All around game, just not getting lucky yet. Just have to clean up the decisions when driving the O zone. Maybe it's a current generation thing that they think they can get away with cut backs along the boards. Not a good idea. Looking forward to the Semi's.

The Czechs won't be as focused on defense as the Germans. They won the games they should win against Norway and Switzerland and took Team USA to the shootout, but got lit up by their ex-compatriots from Slovakia. UMass goalie Michael Hrabal has not impressed me at all so far.

Weak team this year, not surprising, even Canadian media who are always over the top with their Canada WJ predictions had them maybe winning a bronze. That was even a reach from the games i watched.

Poitras comes back to Boston early... Yeah, a couple weeks, that wasn't so bad was it? Canada lost, Poitras was not the only one singled out, yet look Wheeler needed to slam just one more time with a whole paragraph denigrating Poitras (imo). Matt Poitras’ struggles a factor in Canada’s loss I, and I think Hockey Canada (though they’d never say it), expected more from Poitras in particular. He finished the tournament with four points in five games, tied for third on the team in scoring, but the whole event he looked like he was playing under the weight of the expectations typically placed on an NHLer. His decision-making and play selection, hallmarks of his game and a big reason why he stuck with the Bruins out of camp this year, were particularly head-scratching. He was holding onto pucks for far too long, turning pucks over in bad spots, and making his plays too late. It was frustrating to watch from a player who has always been a natural playmaker/passer/driver. His lines never got going and I think the leading factor in that was often how much he was forcing it. NHL teams send their players to the world juniors for the experience but also to build confidence. Poitras likely goes back to Boston with less than he left with. — Scott Wheeler, NHL staff writer

Any high end junior could have slotted in just as well.

Any high end junior could have slotted in just as well. Yeah, he looked better in some games than others, carried the play at various times but i found his thought process lacking a few times. This was particularly apparent especially when it came to taking a shot on net, over passed way too much. Many times he seemed in a prime scoring spot but looked to pass. Oh well, but as you say he didn't provide anything another top junior couldn't have given.
