I wonder if he means full range of movement ? That would be great news if it is true . Well if Chara says its %100, i have no resin to doubt him. If it was going to pose problems, i would have assumed he would have had surgery to fix it last April. Its not like its an ACL/MCL total tear. Like i say, the proof will be in the eye test come training camp and the regular season. I certainly believe you but do you have a link to the article ?

Here it is,
BOSTON – Zdeno Chara now admits his left knee didn’t feel very good when he first returned for the Bruins, and his labored play on the ice sometimes betrayed that discomfort. But the 6-foot-9 defenseman felt better as he recovered from the torn left PCL, and confirmed on Monday’s breakup day that he won’t need any postseason knee surgery.
Instead Chara will wear a brace on his left knee for the rest of his career, and play on a partially torn PCL ligament that still remains about 10 percent attached, according to the defenseman. Chara said he, Steve Yzerman and Tomas Hertl are the only three players that he knew of that had suffered the rare PCL tear to a knee, and Hertl required surgery because he tore both the PCL and the MCL at the same time.
As the season moved along Chara began to feel better, and he’ll completely avoid surgery based on everything he’s discussed with team doctors.
“I didn’t have any issues later in the season. When I came back, it was still not completely a hundred percent, but obviously at that point you want to play; you want to be with the team and do whatever you can to help. But towards the end there were no issues,” said Chara. “The only way to get the strength back in that knee was by playing, and by going through it. I was skating back to normal at the end.
“Coming back from a knee [injury] is always the most difficult to come back from. Now it’s 100 percent. One ligament is completely torn, but the rest of them are unaffected. So that saved me. If one of those [other ligaments] were torn, then I would have needed surgery. ACL, MCL…any of those and I would have needed surgery. You can be without [the PCL], and then it stabilizes after a few months.”
Chara finished with eight goals and 20 points in 63 games this season with an even plus/minus rating, and finished with 23:21 of ice time per night as a 38-year-old hanging onto his No. 1 defenseman status. It was Chara’s worst season in a Bruins uniform as age and injuries seem to have caught up to him a bit, and it certainly seems like the B’ and their captain are a long way from when he finished last season as a Norris Trophy finalist.
“Coming to camp, I really felt I was in the best shape I was in in a long time and felt extremely well. Then something like [the left knee injury] happens, it’s obviously, you don’t want to deal with it. But again, it happened and it took me a while to be back at my game,” said Chara. “Believe it or not, it’s something that slows you down.
“You have to make adjustments, you have to deal with different things that you’re not used to and again, at the end of the season I felt much better and back to myself, and performing like I’m more known for.”
Chara finished the season with three points in his final 20 games played along with a minus-3 rating in March and April, so the numbers don’t exactly back up the big D-man performing exactly like he’s known for. But the burden on Chara will continue to lessen as Dougie Hamilton emerges as the heir to the No. 1 defenseman throne in Boston, and he continues making gains as age and miles logged continue to catch up to Chara’s giant hockey body.

I really don't know much about that type of injury but wonder if a PCL ligament only 10 % attached affects any kind of range of motion or does it need more stability and hence Chara wearing the knee brace . As you suggested we will find out soon enough ,when the games start ,the effect it will have on Chara . Thanks for posting the article .

If Chara and Seidenberg can't handle top lines, it's time to give up now. Both struggled last year and are another year older . Both were injured. I think they will each play at a high level this year.

Both players keep themselves in great shape during the off-season and are coming into camp healthy compared to last season. So age means nothing to either player because of there off-season workout program. Funny how much everyone on the outside looking in on the Bruins, especially on HFboards, keep trying to bring up age on these two players. You are following a pattern made blazed by Loaf and Hab fans. Just about every NHL player comes into camp in great shape ,to suggest an off season conditioning program totally negates the affects of aging isn't correct in my book . Seidenberg and Chara's offseason workout programs are more than what I expect from NHL players. Chara and Seidenberg weren't 100% healthy coming into last season therefore they couldn't workout hard the summer of 2014. This summer they can both workout as hard as a 100% healthy player. Chara at 80% is better than 95% of all NHL defenseman anyways. The last 3 to 4 seasons of Lidstrom's and Niedermeyer's careers I read and heard they were both over the hill and done. It's the same scenario the past two summers - "Chara is almost done" coming from the peanut gallery. Memories of Dan Duquette is what I am thinking when I hear cries of demise. Twighlights are in Del Boca Vista!

steve, crowls, - good debate on the options for how to handle this year.
I would have preferred another run. In hindsight, I look at the Smith for Hayes deal and the $1M+ that saves them in addition to getting out from under the Savard deal as one of the moves they could have made to shake things up even if they didn't deal Lucic. I was prepared to see Lucic walk if necessary at the end of the year. I wouldn't have fired Julien - I really don't think he's the problem and think that would make things worse unless they hit a homer with the hire.
I agree with crowls that the tit for tat on Kopitar is not really part of the equation if we're in an "all things being equal" world. All things being equal would mean the Kings are still trying to win now and build on the core.
The whole idea of taking another run with last year's team hinges on two...maybe three...maybe four things. 1 is dealing Chris Kelly. Sturm him if necessary, but that $3M in cap space is like the pressure in a Chinese finger trap. Everything's stalled by it. 2 is the return to health of Krejci, Chara, Seidenberg and Lucic. If those four were still slowed - or worse, were in full decline and it was never the injuries - then the run was doomed to fail. 3 is the idea that Hamilton could be had for something like what the Flames paid for him. I continue to believe that Barry would have waited to see what came in on the RFA offer sheet front before he ever signed with the Bruins. The Bruins being vulnerable to the offer sheet made them a prime target and Hamilton a likely beneficiary. But if they had moved Kelly and Smith and Savard's deal, suddenly they aren't as vulnerable and maybe Barry takes the deal the same way he did with Calgary. 4 is the continued development of Spooner and Pastrnak. Soderberg was gone no matter what, and someone cheap needs to step up and bank 45-60 points as the third line C. Hayes may replace some of size they lost with Iginla's and Horton's departures but he won't replace him as a 30 goal guy, and so Pastrnak has to pick up that slack. If between them they get 45, that's the equivalent of Iginla and Eriksson two years ago (pro-rating Eriksson to a full year). I'd take that, but it means at least 22-23 goals from Pastrnak.
This roster is $36.5M for the forward group, $24.5 for the D including Irwin as the 7th D, and $8M or so for the goalies. Basically $69M. Not quite enough to also add Beleskey as a UFA. $2M+ for a late season addition. Is that a Cup contender? If everything works out, I think it could be. A back to form Chara and continuing development from Hamilton gives them a formidable top pair. Connolly has the shot if not the physical play to replace Iginla and Horton if he can keep his head straight. Hayes does what Smith didn't; goes hard to the net to create room for Bergeron and Marchand, and works the boards to maintain possession. Eriksson moves back to the left side to ride chaperone for the two kids. The rebuilt fourth line is capable enough. Miller and Seidenberg are yeoman - nothing flashy, just solid defensive zone coverage. Krug puts up 40 points and is neatly matched with McBandaid.
Lucic-Krejci-Connolly Marchand-Bergeron-Hayes Eriksson-Spooner-Pastrnak Rinaldo-Talbot-Ferlin
Chara-Hamilton Miller-Seidenberg Krug-McQuaid
Rask Subban (or McIntyre, or Smith)
Would they be the odds on favorite? No. Could they do it? Probably not that far off the probability of the 2011 team.

The Hockey News just released their top 50 players list with Bergeron at 20. I'll say again, I don't care what label he's given, I'd want him on my hockey team.

Interesting, when I read that article I thought the #20 ranking wasnt all that complimentary and the fact there were no other Bruins in the Top 50 was kinda depressing.

This line kinda stung a little bit. Get a kick out of this, Z's burden has been lessened by CJ, he closes Z's mins every season and don't have him play 28-30 mins a game like he could. 2007 Z 27:57 Stua 22:55 Fer 22:21 2008 Z 26:50 Wide 25:09 Fer 22:14 P/O Z 25:51 2009 Z 26:04 Wide 24:38 Fer 21:31 P/O Z 25:10 2010 Z 25:22 Wide 23:33 Seid 22:57 P/O Z 28:07 2011 Z 25:26 Seid 23:32 JB 20:30 P/O Z 27:39 2012 Z 25:00 Seid 24:02 JB 20:36 P/O Z 27:21 2013 Z 24:56 Seid 23:47 JB 20:24 P/O Z 29:31 2014 Z 24:39 Seid 21:50 JB 21:11 P/O Z 25:20 2015 Z 23:20 Seid 22:06 DH 21:20 Cj has been lowering his season mins every year since he came to Bos. Cj 's system where Off players come back and help, and play a more defencive minded game has allowed him to rest Z better for playoffs. Cj knows when his Capt needs to rest and can go the extra mins, he rests him in non game threatening situations often. CJ has never been afraid to throw a player in that would normally not get that opportunity for those amount of mins. Stuart with 22:55 in 07, Mara 21:52 in 07, Alberts 20:37 in 08, Bart 19:32 in 14 and yet JB's 21:11 in 14 was his most ever as a B. Doug jumped his mins last year to 21:20 from 19:06 in 14, and 17:07 in 13, as did Krug to 19:35 from 17:30in 14. Doug has never taken the burden from Z as most of his mins have been placed alongside Z to groom him along and keep his errors to a minimum and a lot of his big min games came when Z was out. 16 of 21 (games Z missed plus last game and first game back) gamenumbers were inflated over his average of 21:20. Cj has been limiting his top player to have him at his best for long playoff runs as the B's have played more games than any other team from the east over last few years. Yes there is an age factor and miles logged, but Z is not the decrepit old timer that some of the media seem to think. B4 this year Z had missed only 11 games to injury since coming to Bos plus a few more rested games b4 playoffs. So in last 9 years Z has played in an extra 96 playoff games, 25 KHL games, 28 games for his country, 5 All star games plus exhibition games in Europe. So almost an extra 2 years of hockey in the same time. Z has had a longer off season this year than any since 2008 season began, he has earned it and he will come back this year with a vengeance. (Despite losing the logging of big mins from Dougie)
