The guy that does the Kraken games now and was the long time Canes game caller is good also, Forslund. I have no idea but i imagine he's happy with the gig he has there.

Too bad cause Forslund grew up in Springfield. Indeed he would have been a great choice. Hey maybe NESN can bring back great color man Kluzak. I can get in a good nap during the game.

Likes a big glass of milk then a few episodes of Little House on the Praire before drifting off. Dave Goucher should have be retained by NESN somehow. He would have been perfect.

Goucher is fucking awesome! He should be doing games nationally. He's one of the best out there & far better than a lot of the ones who do games now! Judd Sirot the B's radio guy is also great & I would love for the B's give him the option to jump to TV.

Forslund is the best in the business..he was short-changed thanks to NBC giving that overrated Doc Emrick the gig also way past his prime (like Jack). Forslund should be doing all national games, but now McDonough is ESPN guy...look McDonough is okay, but Forslund is today's Dan Kelly

Forslund and Goucher went West...why the NHL east coast teams couldn't hire both is consistent with the NHL PR office, Safety Office, Schedule Makers, etc...the NHL has NO FUCKING CLUE HOW TO PROMOTE THE PRODUCT.

He got to call the first ever Cup for Vegas, so what's left but to come home and take over? I like Sirot (or however it's spelled), but he does some things that annoy me. I really like Beers as the colour guy, though.

His undoing was health, he couldn't say what his brain was telling him to, not good for a play caller, hockey is the fastest sport to call of them all.

But I feel he was awful before that...he had become a cartoon character the previous few seasons. Sorry, cliches and over doing them. His schtick was bad.

I love watching or hearing some of his early work on NESN...I did enjoy his broadcasts early on and even some the Edwardisms...he called fights well, good sense of humor, good pace, and called the game..then he became this hyena-laugh last 2 years (not this year...again this is pre-health, speech issues) and I just got sick of him. But that's not to say that everyone has their opinions on him or to take away that he was beloved by many long-time B's fans. Appreciate the fact he did do the job for years and years...Ends sadly.

His undoing was health, he couldn't say what his brain was telling him to, not good for a play caller, hockey is the fastest sport to call of them all. If you ever want to be humbled, try doing NHL play by play. When I lived in Toronto, whenever I had a friend from out West come to visit, we'd hit the Hockey Hall of Fame, and one of the exhibits was a booth where you get to put on the cans, sit in front of a mic, and give your call of one of hockey's iconic goals. Lemieux in '86, Henderson in '72, Orr 1970...I can't remember all of them but those were the ones I tried for obvious reasons. I've watched those goals at least 100 times each. The Canadians winning a D zone faceoff, and Lemieux pushing it past the Russian D to start the break - up to 99 - the pass, the shot, the goal. It was really hard to say anything interesting or even to know what to say. If you get all wordy about it, the play's over before you can describe the last two seconds where Gretzky and Lemieux both looked like they had all freaking day. But it was fast. "Canada wins the face-off... and Lemieux taps it by the Russian D! odd-man rush for Cana Goal!!!!!!" But mostly it always sounded like "Hems Grrzkaf Schlums falpapapas pass to Lemieux he shoots and he scores!" You start to get the hang of it, but its just so easy for your brain to have moved on before your tongue can form the words you need. And even when you know what's coming, you get surprised. The Henderson goal is like that. The play Esposito makes, your eye goes to Phil and it's like you don't even really register that you maybe should be saying Henderson's got a lane. Play by play is an art requiring a lot of practice, and I bet like a lot of sports, it gets harder the older you get. I'd really like people to look at Jack's example - guys who do PbP, I mean - and ask whether it was really worth the last couple of years when he struggled or if they maybe wouldn't like to call their own shot before things go sideways. Jeannerette had some of the best calls in hockey, but by the end he was just terrible and practically the Sabres' grampa. Cole was like that - awful at the end and way too much of a homer in the worse ways. Jim Hughson wasn't my favourite, but he did it right. You could maybe tell he was a Canucks home broadcast guy when he did national calls, but nothing like Cole until closer to the end. When you heard him on Vancouver radio, though...hooo. And he hung them up before his game went hard south.

Definitely like Beers on the radio. But Brick isn't going anywhere. Brick's take on the game is awesome as well as Bobby Beers! I find how they see the game very similar! I think Bricks Boston accent is perfect for a Boston Sports Network too! I wonder if a new regular partner will put some pep into Brick. He's been meh this year for me and I think some of that is there's not a lot of give and take with Jack. Like Jack's not giving him things to comment on or what he's giving comes in as the wrong take. "Brick, how does the ref not see that!" "Well, I think Marchand trips over his own stick there, and there's no one near him, and he was diving anyway."

Yep, i've been to the HHOF a couple times, my son tried the p by p like you did, sat behind the mike and i think he did the Orr gl, he did ok but got tongue tied a couple times, thing is there's no do overs on live tv. As you say play by play is an art requiring a lot of practice and even them some that make it to the big leagues are the shits, just goes to show that even with 32 teams that needed these guys, there aren't 32 really capable and exciting p by p guys available, small talent pool. We were spoiled to have Edwards call the games and Cusick before him, it's definitely not an easily acquired art that's for sure.

I hope Brick follows suit- only for one reason, have the color man have the color. The color man should be the entertainment. And Brick is boring and matter of fact. The announcer should just announce and play the straight man.
I liked Derek Sanderson way back when.

The announcer should just announce and play the straight man. I liked Derek Sanderson way back when. Nah, I don't want that. The game is the entertainment. Let it be. I don't want some Esposito type or Mickey Redmond who sounds like the other teams are all basically war criminals and despite decades of experience in the game, the only matters of fact they offer are "he should have shot that, jeez!" I'll go as far as a Gary Green who could offer the quick anecdote between the whistles and had lots of one-liners to liven up a normal analysis of a play. But that's about it, and even then he was annoying as hell when it was a tense game. I can go back and forth on how colourful the PbP guy is, but I appreciate the ones who can get creative with their calls. Watched a game recently with my girlfriend and she'd never heard either "top shelf! where mama hides the cookies!" or "beat him like a rented mule!" If Jeannerette hadn't sounded like someone strangling a Canada Goose, I would have liked him a lot better...and if he wasn't a shameless homer. But on the other hand, many of my favourite PbP guys are minimalists who let you actually hear the game and watch the action. It's not radio. I can see that 88 has the puck, and 63 is driving the far post. It's funny how sport specific a really good call is. Vin Scully, Curt Gowdy - they let silence do a lot of work. Keith Jackson, Al Michaels have been good at adapting that aesthetic to football where you raise the energy level for a lot longer than it takes a baseball to leave the yard. In soccer, you get long periods of silence (because nothing is happening...LOL...I kid), but my favourite calls let you just see what's in front of you and put it in context of what you might not be watching because you're probably watching the ball. Subtle changes in tactics, or what they're trying to work open. I find a lot of the hockey guys are doing radio calls on television: Coyle wins the faceoff back to McAvoy who goes up the boards to Marchand and Marchand send it deep where Heinen is in on the Reilly on the forecheck. Not one of those words was necessary for me to see what's going on.

That's why in my hope for PBP pairings it's someone new at color to go with the new PBP. Time for new blood.

Geez Brickley has been around since 2001, time for change. 20 years is a long time.

www.nhl.com/bruins/news/topic/press-release/jack-edwards-voice-of-the-boston-bruins-announces-retirement-at-conclusion-of-2023-24-seasonJack Edwards, Voice of the Boston Bruins, Announces Retirement at Conclusion of 2023-24 Season BOSTON – After 19 years as the Boston Bruins Play-by-Play broadcaster on New England Sports Network (NESN), Jack Edwards has announced his retirement following the 2023-24 postseason games on NESN. As a New England native and University of New Hampshire graduate, Jack retires from a 45-year career through sports journalism and play-by-play, culminating with what he described as his “dream job” with NESN and the Boston Bruins. “I grew up a Bruins fan, and who had more fun than us over the last two decades?” said Jack Edwards. “In collaboration with Bruins and NESN leadership, I recently decided that the time has come for me to finish my shift as the voice of the Boston Bruins. I am no longer able to attain the standards I set for myself, to honor the fans, the players, the Bruins organization and NESN with the best they all deserve.” “I retire from broadcasting not with a heavy heart, but gratefulness for a 19-year-long joyride,” Jack continued. “I owe my career, my own pursuit of happiness, to the love and support of my family. I thank every member of the Bruins and NESN for your loyalty, helping me to achieve and live out a lifetime goal, high above the ice.” Jack began his play-by-play career with NESN in 2005. After holding several reporter and anchor positions in New Hampshire and Providence, Jack came to Boston in the 1980s as a sports anchor and reporter at both WCVB and WHDH. He also worked as a reporter for ABC’s Wide World of Sports and Olympic coverage on both ABC and CBS. He joined ESPN in 1991 as an anchor and reporter for SportsCenter and won an Emmy award for his ESPN reporting. He has also done play-by-play for ESPN’s coverage of hockey and soccer, including the 2002 World Cup finals, and the Little League World Series. Jack’s Bruins passion and knowledge has educated decades of fans. With unique phrases such as “tumbling muffin” and “high above the ice”, his iconic style has set him apart in the league and all of sports broadcasting. “I join the Bruins organization, NESN and hockey fans everywhere in congratulating Jack on an incredible career,” said Charlie Jacobs, CEO and Alternate Governor of the Boston Bruins. “Jack’s voice has been the soundtrack for generations of Bruins fans that have experienced so many incredible moments. His presence has been felt around the globe and he will forever be a part of the Bruins legacy.” Jack will continue calling games for the reminder of the 2023-24 season through NHL playoffs. The Boston Bruins and NESN will conduct a nationwide search for the next play-by-play voice to join Color Commentator Andy Brickley for the 2024-25 season. “Congratulations to Jack on a remarkable career of calling Boston Bruins hockey on NESN,” said Sean McGrail, President and CEO of NESN. “Jack brought a distinctive and colorful personality to our broadcast that was unmistakably his own. I’d like to join everyone at NESN in thanking Jack for his contributions over the past 19 years.” In addition to honoring his career tonight during the pregame ceremony, the Boston Bruins and NESN plan to further celebrate Jack Edwards and his impact during the 2024-25 regular season. More information will be shared at a later date. All that mojo over the years took it's toll. "Outside in the cold distance, a wildcat did growl .... Two riders were approachin and the wind began to howl!" Can't forget that one Jack. God Bless.
