It's got nothing to do with liking him. I hate the way he gets scapegoated by people citing 1 ENG in 11 playoffs games like he played a regular shift in a top six role in those games. He played a 4th line role with other 4th liners; he played fewer total playoff minutes as a Bruin than guys like Karson Kuhlman and only Hathaway and Lauko have played less on a per game basis. Now you can say whatever you want to criticize his game that the coaches didn't trust him enough to play him more, but to criticize him for not scoring in his 9:35 a game for 9 games is kicking a guy when he's down, methed out, bleeding from several open wounds, and concussed. I think what bugs me is exactly that scapegoating vibe. Same thing with Grz. Pastrnak has 1 PPG in 2024 but let's rip Freddy. Marchand forgot how to score goals, but boy is Freddy disappointing. McAvoy is minus a million since the ASG and looked shaky again last night, but let's be disappointed that Freddy didn't score more when he was a 4th liner trying to earn TOI by hitting, fighting and being a greaseball. Would it have been nice for Freddy to score more? Sure. Put him on the PP then and take off one of the useless tits who refuse to make the safe play on the entry or who keep trying to throw it through multiple sticks or who can't win a board battle to keep possession so every PP is a series of failed entries followed by a one and done chance. But shitting on the guy who led the team in hits, was solid on the forecheck all night and was one of the few Bruins to hit with malice, because just like Marchand, Zacha, Coyle, DeBrusk, McAvoy, Lindholm (total salary, mostly driven by their offensive abilities - $35M+) he didn't score a goal last night is to pretend all of those other guys played better than he did, and as a secondary scorer, the problem is he didn't step up to fill in. He had to step up because the guys who get paid to score played like garbage for most of the game, generating almost nothing and not finishing when they did get a break. I'd flip Freddy and Marchand if you want to see him score. He and Coyle have worked well together before. Marchand at 5 on 5 is a disaster right now. Let him go play energy line hockey. Or you could flip Boqvist to the 3rd line for Trent, Freddie, Maroon & Beecher on the 4th. Speaking of the 4th line, TO is getting mileage out of theirs , had the B's hemmed in and running around a few times last night. How does that improve Freddy's chance to contribute more by scoring? Sounds like more default blame Frederic instead of looking at the 3/4 of the team who contributed the same on the scoresheet and less physically. Put him in Heinen's spot. There's another guy getting top six minutes whose done less than Freddy to help the team. There are four Bruins who have not been on the ice for a goal against in any situation through two games - Freddy, Geekie, Boqvist and Maroon. For some reason Lauko and Grz don't show zeroes; the NHL gave them dashes instead. But by all means, let's shuffle those guys at the bottom to fix the fact the top six are getting beat 5v5. I agree that their chances are a lot better if they get Freddy scoring. But Montgomery has decided that the third line is a crash line he can use against good opponents because they all skate well enough, and as long as Geekie and Freddy have Lauko instead of someone with more puck skills, they aren't as likely to bring a lot of offense. To me, that's on Montgomery, not the players on that line.

I like Freddie but he can be a difference maker in this series, Domi is doing it for TO, Trent not so much.Have not heard his name called during the course of play that often.

I screamed it out loud. You can’t grab closed hand and place the puck where you want. It’s a penalty. But shitty refs wasn’t the reason for that loss. Goaltending was even. Our def stunk. Shattenkirk didn’t even attempt to block cupcake shot on pk. All of their lines out played ours esp their 4th line who was good. Remember when Freddy drove Ovi crazy. Why can’t he be that guy again? I liked that guy. Freddie it seems hasn't figured out what type of player he is or wants to be. With his steady improvement over the last two years, I thought he was on the road to getting that sorted. I hope he gets rolling and contributing in some needed department.

Freddy needs a wake up call…. Demote him and promote Beecher…. Not a bad idea and I think Frederic would work well with Maroon and Boqvist. Frederic needs get hos head in the series. I think he will.

Apparently some of us are asking for too much for Freddy to provide some offense…. Nah, you can ask him to raise his game but let's put him in proper context. He does his job as well as a lot of guys who get his role and 2-3x more cash for it.

*The question is how much you think skating is a factor. Freddie has zero lateral movement, JVR and Maroon are just slow. 2 out of the 3 must play as they are all big. Freddie needs to play better if B's want to minimize this exposure. *B's got out of sync when they had to go to 5 d-men; it makes matchups much more difficult and fatigue/mistakes/missed assignments happen. As a result, Matthews line had way more room. Untimely penalties did not help either. *I found it interesting that the Bruins won the Cup with 2 goalies playing equally in 72. No excuses...just need to execute and play better, especially on offense. Linus was awesome last night...leafs could have had 5 or 6. *Matthews goal was legit. You always get leeway with gloving the puck directionally. *I'm glad Bruins have Wotherspoon...dude is poised and solid for a backup. *Bruins need to make skilled forwards and dmen pay the price more. They let up a bit after game 1 and it seemed Leaves got comfortable with the room they got. This is why taking Lauko out would be stupid. Need to up the ante and go after Narcos Nostrils, Bitch Marner, Pajama Boy, and Morgan Reilly. Do it without taking penalties. *Anyone else wish they owned a dragon when they show Leaf fans out on the street? My two cents... 1. You should never get a "too many men on the ice" penalty in the playoffs, we got two. Hockey gods don't like to let you get away with that kind of stupid shit 2. To me, everyone seemed to be just a little bit "off" on the offensive side of things. A lot of "almost" plays, a lot of giggles, a lot of pucks jumping over sticks at the worst time. I remember thinking to myself in the middle of the third while it was still tied that our offense just wasn't able to keep anything going because every four touches someone would uncharacteristically give up the puck. Lack of confidence or lack of focus? They need to fix that. Toronto has the better offensive players, which means we need to capitalize when we do get our chances. Last night too many guys just weren't at their best handling the puck and making fast decisions. 3. Wish Shattenkirk would have either blocked that shot by Tavares or got the hell out of the way. It wasn't that hard of a shot, I've got to think Ullmark saves that if he sees it cleanly. Seemed like he was late to react. Sure it was well placed, but I expect a save there. The goalie debate is pointless. Endlessly what-iff-able. But, but, what if Swayman stayed hot and shut them out? But what if we played him and we lost 5-0 and he got pulled in the second period? Both goalies are capable of stealing games, and both are good to very good most nights. But of course the media will beat this story to death as long as the Bruins are in the playoffs. Heard some jack-off on youtube ranting how pissed Swayman should be. Sometimes it's fine to just say we've got two good options, we're good with both, and we'll decide game to game and live with the results without regrets. I hope we rotate them right through the Stanley Cup and then trade Stanley Cup winning goaltender Ullmark for a kings ransom. We'll get some great goalie hug pictures for the history books and maybe a couple first round draft picks in the process. That being said. Sway gets next game. And if gets a shut out, he gets the next game. In fact I think if either goalie lets up less than two goals, they should play the next game. Otherwise, rotate on.

Apparently some of us are asking for too much for Freddy to provide some offense…. I didn't really notice Freddy for a good or bad reason. I thought Heinen had a couple good chances blocked by the defender and was a bit out of sync with Pasta and Zacha. I thought Coyle, Debrusk, Marchand were also not as sharp as the prior night in terms of being able to get their cycle going. I thought Beecher and Boquist both had some "soft" plays with the puck that either turned the puck over or failed to clear the zone. Both weren't as good as game 1. Boquist in particular just didn't look as confident all the sudden after playing some pretty good hockey lately. It's weird, if anything the problem with the third line is that they were largely invisible. Neither good nor bad that I can remember specifically.

Apparently some of us are asking for too much for Freddy to provide some offense…. $2.3M AAV gave the Bs 18 goals with 40 points, while averaging, 13:30 TOI. That's really really good, actually. Having said that, yes Frederic needs to play better. He needs to up his tenacity and isn't being physical enough I agree. But all this hyperbole that he's a waste of a pick is hilarious nonsense.
