Adidas just out-bid Reebok for the rights to provide unis to the NHL starting in 2016-17. Adidas bought Reebok 8-10 years ago so isn't this like bidding against yourself? Yes, there were other bidders, but still...Adidas has treated Reebok like a red-headed stepchild since they bought them so no surprise here.
I remember from a previous "discussion" on BDC that this was a pretty divisive issue. Personally, I'm fine with the ads unless they completely clutter up the sweater like some of the euro leagues. I think one of the reasons for the recent success for the Finns in the NHL comes from the fact that they lose 22lbs in sweater weight when they get here. Sweater ads almost seems like a natural progression after ads on the boards, ads on the ice, ads on the unis. Plus the added revenue can't hurt, right?
Tim Horton's on Sens sweaters? Coors Light for the Avs? Massengill for the Habs?

Inevitable. I remember when they introduced advertising on the boards, people were complaining they would lose sight of the puck and so on and now every rink has them.
if not next year, some year in the future.

I don't want any ads on the jerseys, call me old-fashioned.

Don't like the idea, but it won't change my life. Obviously the owners and players are not making enough money, so if adds on the sweaters will keep them off the streets pan-handling for spare change, I guess it will be worth it.

Why not? What's wrong with this?
Hey wait...I think that's a pic of YOU! Ya freakin' hypocrite!

I don't want any ads on the jerseys, call me old-fashioned. I'm with you. The jersey maker's logo, the club crest, player name, done. Although Cialis on a Leaf jersey would be hilarious.

If the NHL BOGs spoke to English Premier league futbol club owners (*Cough John Henry) and got any kind of positive feedback on revenue then I think ads will make it onto jersey's n helmets.
Masengill "Summers Eve" ad smack dab right above the toilet seat!

For all other sports you can buy a shirt or jersey with only their logo on it, for example 'adidas' shirts, 'puma' and so on.
But why aren't there hockey jerseys with only the company logo on them?
Like a CCM or Tackla jersey with only the CCM or Tackla or whatever logo where the crest would be.
I think I've only ever seen a CCM jersey like that once.

If that's how the Adidas 3 stripes will work, some unis, including the Bruins will have to be redesigned and not for the better IMO.

Not to mention Seabass is on at the board of a soccer team over in Europe as well, i'm sure JJ has been quizzing him on all the revenues the ads on jerseys bring in. Its coming, with the "World Cup of hockey" being the testing ground.

In moderation, I won't care. The AHL jerseys have had company logos for years.
Not the front of the helmet sticker, however.
That's the worst.

If this means less commercials during games then I'm for it . I doubt it though, it's more like they want the whole pie

Commercial breaks in the NHL aren't that bad, at least you know when they are coming. In the NFL it is almost painful. Over 3 hours of watching football, you get like 13 minutes of actual football.

I know. The owners want to make more money not evening it out. On another note if they do put ads I think it'll increase jersey sales as fans will want to purchase the most resent version of a jersey. Just like in European soccer, FC Barcelona being a very good example. Win win for the owners, teams and NHL. Maybe cap can go up by 2M

Cap goes up, salaries goes up...it's all relative.

The Vaughn and the Brians are. CCM and Bauer are not. Remember where you got them? I don't like wearing pro or plain jerseys at my pickup games. I need black and red jersies.

I'd be interested to see what Adidas would do with the Bruins' home yellow shoulder areas.

Funny you say that, the CCM and Bauers I have 3 in each color, black, red and blue. They have just the logo on the front but they are my kids jerseys. If they were adult size I would mail them to you.
My kids get them at tournaments they play in. 3 of them just played in the CCM Boston Elite Invite in Foxboro 2 weekends ago and they got them there. My son also got one simply because he asked the rep there for one. If your at a rink and a tournament is going on, see if its sponsored and ask the rep for one. They seem to love giving them out. He went out to his car and got one for my son.

Thanks, I don't like wearing a jersey for a team that I haven't played for and now that I've given up on leagues, the old jerseys are wearing out. A generic logo is something I can live with.
