Spend to the Cap by getting a solid defenseman. Then drop Kelly into Providence for injury insurance. If Kelly is dumped in a trade then do the same to Talbot. Play the utes. Did you say ute? Question is, what type of a message are we saying if we bury a quality guy, more so in the locker room, in Providence just because of his contract rather than his performance? Trying to think if this has even been done before.

If Kelly is on the fourth line, who is on the third? Top 9: centers: krejci, bergeron, spooner rifht wing: Connolly, Hayes, pasta left wing: eriksson, beleskey, marchand Not bad... but lots of question marks

Why trade Kelly at this point? They don't have cap issues any more. He's a very good player to have centering a fourth line.

Moving Kelly could give them the space to deal prospects and/or picks for a solid D-man. I still think he's gone before camp starts.

Kelly, Talbot & Rinaldo don't excite me one little bit, but they do bring experience and grind which the Bruins brass value
some combo of Khokhlachev, Griffith, Kemppainen & Ferlin would bring a completely different vibe - more of a 3b trio than an old-school Bruin 4th line
my bet is Sweeney & Co keep a sharp eye on how these guys show during camp and at PVD (where I think they will begin the season)
they are likely right on the horizon with CK, MT & ZR as short-timers (the shorter the better IMRHO, unless they surprise)

Performance is the key though, if he plays on the third line, his salary is palatable. If he is on the 4th line, then his salary is a waste. I am sure he understands the Cap and the circumstances. I'd rather have him traded. Put the A on Tuuka's shoulders.

Christ Almighty, Kelly isn't a blind leper in a wheelchair with one wheel.
He's a good player, a third line NHLer. If his salary was a bit lower, everyone would be happy with him.

Kelly's salary on the fourth is only an issue if the money is needed elsewhere. If it's not, having him there is a nice luxury.

Goalies have way too much stuff to worry about, they simply cannot function as captains or alternates. If Kelly is shipped out, they should give the A to Krejci permanently, or make Seids or McQ alternate captain.

I saw him on the third line as well. His totals for the season matched Gregory Campbell with 3 minutes more TOI. Kelly just needs to play better.

Kelly after first 7 years with 10+ goals including 20 in first full season as a Bruin, he has scored 3G in 34gms then 9G in 57gms and last year he had 7G in 80 games. He has had 5 better seasons for point totals. He was 8th in fwd scoring, 1 point ahead of Pasta who only played 46 games and 9 ahead of Spooner who only played 29 games. So basically he was our 10th fwd, ahead of only Pail and Camp.
He was a valuable player towards our cup win in 2011 playoffs, but 3M as a 4th liner is worse than Saad getting 6m for 6yrs, and O'reilly 7.5M for 7yrs. Makes you wonder what Luc will get next year.
Saad 1G more than Beleskey including playoffs, so Belesk salary not so bad.

My eyes saw him on the 4th line at the end of the year mainly because Kelly was ineffective on the 3rd. Funny I heard how great it was that the Bruins could afford, cap wise, to have Kelly on the 4th line while Boston were being eliminated from the playoffs. Yah I know the Bruins need the locker room leader for the PK and faceoffs. No need to remind me.

Unless a trade is made, Talbot-Kelly-RinaldoI like this. Kelly between a couple of hitting, agitating puck hounds. I can imagine them penning in a team, causing the defensemen to rush their passes a bit although I'm curious to see Kemppainen.

Is that your conclusion to what ailed the Bruins last year and resulted in no playoffs ? Ha. Look further, my friend !

I think Kelly will end up on the third line wing before he plays many fourth line minutes.
