Can ESPN sound even more sad that the pens are sucking? They're doing a hell of a lot of talk about the state of the Pens right now. Yes, Dubass has his work cut out for him. We know that.

They looked good, jm. They were outshot almost double but it didn't matter. Ullmark looked razor sharp and on some chances, he needed to be. Pittsburgh came in and worked.

I had to chuckle when McDonough put Ferraro on the spot and asked if he thought the LeRfs were a Cup contender. After a pause and a few breaths he said they were just under the top Cup teams but said they'll still finish with 100 pts, ended with he didn't think they have the D or goaltending. It's funny that the same thing has been said by everyone about TO but their management can't seem to find the answers for like forever.

I thought that I was out but they keep dragging me back in. Been watching them all year, and I hope they don't break my heart again. Can't break it any worse... So there's that...

Haha, that's exactly what i thought, it was like Ray was getting ready to walk across a bed of red hot coals. He knew though that he would have to answer honestly because McDonough knows his stuff and if Ferraro would have tried to pass a crock of shit Sean would have said no thanks not buying it and pointed out their past history and failures.

Yeah no doubt. That trade to Nashville for Weber seems to have done him in. Weber led his team to a SC final while Subban became the expensive has been the Preds were desperate to ditch I'd read some opinions that linked his increased attention to his relationship with Vonn instead of hockey to his gradual slide. I don't know about that. I was playing in a local men's tournament a few years back. One of the teams brought this friend of a friend who had just out grown the Q. "Hockey Dave" was one of the best players I've played with or against (he was D partner for a now 1st pairing NHLer). A guy on another team had a new young girlfriend from out of town, and she brought a bunch of her friends for the weekend party. One of her friends was sub par, awful voice but GTG. She latched on to Hockey Dave for the night. The next day ole Dave looked like he'd been violated, skated in quicksand and his team was upset. The resounding opinion around the rink was "Holy shit, she fucked the hockey right out of him!" I was shocked by PK's decline and retirement. Before he hung them up I threw out his name as possible option for the B's on the cheap. I thought he would play until he lost any shot at the cup he never won. While I don't think Von "fucked the hockey out of him" per se, I do think his massive money deal at a young age and his growing personal brand value reduced his need/desire to train at NHL levels. Being a hockey player is hard, hard work all year long. Watching what you eat, intense training, getting injured. We saw it with Bergie, he could easily still be playing right now, but that would mean training, away from family, and constant nursing of his nagging groin issue. He was done with it. PK could have made a few mil more in hockey and gone for a cup but that would be some hard work. Alternative was at least that much as a broadcaster, work one day a week and eat whatever you want, no workouts and no crosschecks to the back. Pretty easy when you think about it...

After that pause, I thought he'd better choose his words carefully with Load Nation watching. Those guys - Ferraro and Friedmann and Dreger and LeBrun...they all do local radio hits in NHL towns. That pause was calculating how uncomfortable the next week will be as he goes on the Fan in Toronto and gets roasted for not seeing genius of the Loaf, and then roasted again in Edmonton or Calgary or Vancouver where they bring it up and want him to double down.

Alternative was at least that much as a broadcaster, work one day a week and eat whatever you want, no workouts and no crosschecks to the back. Pretty easy when you think about it...I guess these two things are tied together.... You think you can get a Cup, and you have that champion level drive, you do the work without complaint. If you want to win a Cup because it will improve your retirement income when you walk away, then yeah...if the cheque is the same but the hardest hit you have to take is a verbal jab from Biz once in a while, that is pretty easy. He always battled the perception that it was all about PK. I think his story was very similar to Kessel in Boston except he took the bridge and Kessel forced a trade. And I think the judgment of him post career has been based on that perception more than the reality. He was neck and neck with Josi in scoring in his first year in Nashville, and he was a Norris finalist his second year. He lost a lot of TOI the next year because Ellis and Ekholm came on strong, and then got punted to the Devils where the team had just drafted first overall and still wasn't very good. Then COVID. I think that's what did him in; seeing the distance to a Cup get longer when he went to Jersey plus navigating the COVID environment when you're this big personality attention seeking guy. Bad convergence for him.

Your story supports the age old no sex restriction and results I used to hear that apparently existed in some sports specifically before big games, OC. Dave sounds wrecked. Subban was riding high for a while. In 2014, he signed an eight-year, $72 million contract with the Shabs. After the 2015–16 season, he's traded to the Preds where he endeared himself to the fans by showing up unannounced at a bar and sang a Johnny Cash song. He was a big deal. In 2018 he started dating Lindsey Vonn before being traded to New Jersey in 2019. I'd see pics of them doing bunch of things. So, yeah, maybe in all that he lost his zest for the game.

In the first intermission, Messier raised the point about the Bruins having two top goaltenders in the manner his Oilers had their own in Fuhr and Moog. Andy Moog (who was diagnosed with cancer in November - prayers for him), not Grant Fuhr, won the final two games for the Oilers in 1984 (their first Stanley Cup win).

It had to kill ChickenParm to public ally broadcast that Pasta is one of his “favorite players“.

Parm is just telling the truth though, Pasta has skill and a great personality, can be serious but have fun. I bet there are a lot of color analysts that love Pasta for that, lots of bland NHL'ers.
