Another shocking display of defensive ineptness, etc., with the usual bad ending if not for "Heino's" brilliant strike.
Hate to say it, but this team does not belong in first place overall. Not with the bald-headed moron behind the bench. Just curious — if you had a choice of any coach throughout the league (or maybe someone out there still interested) — who would you pick? Cassidy for one.

Hes let in some stinkers, all goalies do, still think he is numero uno as of today. I don't...2 embarrassing short side goals...he has been awful late in games...Ullmark much better last few games...sorry, 35 ahead now. Yep, Sway better get together with goalie sideshow Bob and watch some tape, haven't been confident watching Jeremy lately.

I dislike Vegas so yeah if they miss the playoffs, excellent. On the other hand "hanging" on is not what I see. I just don't see the love affair with Monty. He has two top ten players in McAvoy and Pasta. His lines are solid ie. Geekie, but is that his doing? I have already described the conundrums of the team play, I place that on the Coach. All I read is tributes. We will see. And I will admit I am wrong. But Monty's system has some bugs.

I liked Cassidy as a coach, did he screw up in the 2019 Cup final, that is open for debate. I think Montgomery will be judged on the B's playoff performance which is fine and he isn't perfect by any means but he's the one that comes up with the plan and right now he has the B's in 1st place OA with 13 games to go, to this guy he must be doing something right.

I'm guessing trick mirrors. Maybe not injuries to key players like others but who depends on as many minor leaguers as the B's this season. Can't be shocked by the inconsistant play but the record says otherwise.

Back in first overall...not bad for a Bergy-less and Krejci-less bubble team. But the last 8 minutes of this game looked too much like Game 7 last year - but with a better ending. Another shocking display of defensive ineptness, etc., with the usual bad ending if not for "Heino's" brilliant strike.

I think a lot of B's fans will be waiting to see what the B's do in the playoffs, i'm curious as well but am not thinking he has to win to keep his job. I think with the roster provided to him he has done an admirable job. I also think the B's could surprise in the playoffs but as we know they're a crapshoot.

I like Sway a lot, but he gives up bad goals too often, usually in the third period. This is not a good trend. And yeah, I’ll admit I’m out on Monty. I like the guy personally and it’s so true that he’s gotten a bubble team at the top of the league as of today with 13 to play and deserves credit for that. But his team blows third period leads like a hooker in Vegas. It happens too often. It is not just bad individual plays by Gryz or Sway, there’s a system problem and a mental weakness by the defense in general that’s disconcerting. I try to enjoy their success given their weaknesses, but blowing leads game after game after game should get you fired as a Coach even quicker than having DeBrusk on your team.

But he has already stated that Philly will be his final gig. Who else? Not Cassidy, he screwed up big time in 2019, although he seems to be able to change (unlike KFClaude). However, his change from a coach players didn't respect (in Washington) to a coach who likes to throw his guys under the bus went way too far for my liking. And speaking of KFClaude, definitely not him or Therrien, or Vigneault (though I'm still pondering if it was Vinaigrette's fault the Canucks played like sissies vs the B's in 2011, or if their roster with the Sedin sisters and Leaky Lu at the top dictated it). I try to enjoy their success given their weaknesses, but blowing leads game after game after game should get you fired as a Coach even quicker than having DeBrusk on your team. Let's add Mr. "I cannot for the life of me get the puck out of our zone" Zacha to the list of perpetrators of bad individual plays. And of course "the untouchable" #88. Brandon Carlo's level of play keeps getting worse each game. He was the B's best dman when the season started. Is something physically wrong with him, is he frustrated or does he just wear down too fast?
I have no idea why Montgomery keeps messing with the defense pairings and the forward lines. There's a saying, "never change a winning team", well, apparently Montgomery has either never heard of it, or he "deleted" it from his memory during his time on the sauce. Does he want to preempt opposing teams before they develop strategies to stop the Bruins?
The only player (except for #88, but he at least contributes tons of offense) who seems to enjoy a carte blanche, no matter how bad he screws up, is Graesslich. Always on the first pairing with McAvoy ("nepotism"?), always on the ice in situations he should never even be considered for. Why, ffs, WHY?
And yes, I do like Swayman too, but I can also see the bad trend.

And putting Zacha and Pastrnak on the ice for a faceoff in the B's zone with the other team's goalie pulled - how much more evidence does he need that #18 and #88 are not his best defensive options?
This "I'm contend the B's are in first place" (even though they were lucky to get there because their goalies had to bail them out way too often) thinking is not my cup of tea. My gut feeling is that Montgomery will "surprise" us with another big time blunder, one of the "violently shaking my head" kind, in the playoffs.

My problem in communicating in the thread is I made two posts. One on how "repeated" game breakdowns in the third is a trend owned by the coach. If the team is good defensively it should not happen frequently. I think Monty is a good motivator and gets a lot of his team. I am just not that knowledgeable on why these late game fiascos happen for a good team. So for now he is on the hot seat not the players. As for the comparison, I did not compare Memories did so. I replied quickly, but by no means was I talking in general about coaches, but I was specifically saying the coach has a problem.

Fans sometimes forget that this was to be a bridge/retool year for the Bruins until some much needed cap space becomes available this summer, B's aren't doing too bad for a retool year. Anyway i'm not here to change your mind and as far as a blunder by Montgomery in the playoffs we'll have to wait and find out, what fun!

Just curious — if you had a choice of any coach throughout the league (or maybe someone out there still interested) — who would you pick? I have always liked Torts. I think Bednar, Bowness and Brind'Amour are good coaches. Tippett was good too, IMHO (not so much with the Oilers though). Maybe DeBoer or Brunette (the latter may need a few more years of experience). I don't like Cooper or Maurice, and Roy would be too "Shab-by".You just eliminated about 45,000 NHL coaching victories. So let's complete the trick. Torts has had far more players dislike him and he's thrown more players under the bus than Cassidy will have time to do. I don't mind him because I also didn't mind it when Cassidy did it - and dispute that he actually did it to the degree he gets tagged with. But the thing with Torts is that he comes in and he builds a culture. If you already have a culture, he is not an innovator, he's not a tactician, he's not a great game manager. Claude, by all accounts, is the diametric opposite of Cassidy. He can teach where Cassidy could only tell, and Torts can only challenge your manhood. What has Bednar actually done that gets him props? To my eyes, his teams win when MacKinnon scores 4 points and lose if he scores 3 or less. They routinely lose to teams with even slightly more defensive structure and sufficient scoring in the playoffs. Sakic went out and bought them enough talent to overcome that once. Now they're back to being disappointing in the playoffs. Why does he get a coaching pass for that? He also routinely throws his roster under the bus from what I've seen. Bowness is a cranky old man and I have nothing bad to say about the guy, but he can't be the game's greatest coach when it took him 25 years and Montgomery's rampant alcoholism to get back behind the bench. But honestly - BrindAmour? What have his teams ever done in the playoffs? Other, of course, than get swept? 18-19, lose in a third round sweep against Boston. Stupid COVID year, lose 4-1 in the first "real" round to Boston. Stupid season, get crushed 4-1 against the Bolts in round 2. Next year, get revenge on Boston in 7, but then blow 2-0 and 3-2 series leads allowing the Rangers to outscore the Canes 11-4 in the final two games. Last year, chance to go to the finals if they can beat the Panthers - score 3 goals in the first 3 games, 6 in a 4 game loss. Cry that the series was really close because they could have won each of those games! Nah. If you don't like Claude, I don't see how you can like Brindamour. He has no plan B, ever. When his gameplan runs aground, he has no way to course correct. They dominated the Bruins in Carolina two years ago, but lost every game in Boston because he couldn't immediately match up. No answer for it. Bruins came within a hair of doing to them what the Panthers did to the Bruins last year. Tippett is the coaching equivalent of a football QB game-manager. He really makes the time pass. DeBoer is Laviolette is DeBoer. Guys who come in hot, wear out their welcome and move on because they have one trick and it grates on players. No thanks.

Clode also has his name engraved on Lord Stanley…. ...courtesy of Timothy Thomas, Jr....Not this again. Say whatever you want about how good Thomas was, and we can re-hash all you want the point that the Bruins won games when they scored a lot of goals against Vancouver - not 1-0 or 2-1. They lost those games. But no one will ever convince me that Claude and the way that team was built had nothing to do with their ability to let the previous game go no matter how high or low they could have been. Every time it looked like luck or momentum or stats or anything was starting to turn against them, that team went out and out-worked, outhit, and out played the opposition. They went to work and ground you down. They maintained elite focus in game 7 against Tampa - they were a machine with perfectly calibrated torque on their stick grips. Thomas's "I have a pretty good idea of how to play goal in this league and I'm not taking any advice at this time" is what a terminator would say if they sent one back in time just to play hockey. If all this other stuff people have started to criticize about Montgomery is coaching, then so is that. And it deserves respect.
