Easier to pull off when there’s nothing but daylight between you and the goalie…. Yup, Jakey is at his best when he doesn't have to worry about any defenseman roughing him up. Unless Jakey goes on a rampage it’ll be his worst goal scoring season in terms of gpg %…. And in a UFA year…. Hope he’s got a snake oil salesman for an agent….

He is also one of the few Bruins with a negative +/- which suggests he is weak in doing his sole job as a 4th liner: don’t get scored on. Look, I'm not going to take you up on that offer, but a) I guess it's OK to cite plus/minus now? But mostly b) he had a bad start in that regard playing with Brown and Steen. Same with Beecher. Lauko's actually +1 since Dec 1. The guy who is giving me the heebie jeebies going into the playoffs is Coyle. The prior game or two CC was sluggish to the point it looked like maybe a leg injury. Last night, he just plain sucked most of the time at hockey from keeping the puck on his stick, keeping his stick on the ice, being in the right area of the ice, and the OT five-hole snapper that Brick described as "too late on the release (or something like that)"; his skating looked better overall but if I remember correctly he still didn't accelerate much towards players in the D zone (injury or indecision?). Then there's Shakeyman in goal...maybe coach he who no-longer-whispers can help them find their mojo.

Fourth lines are supposed to provide some energy and spark, of which Van Winkle hasn’t provided much of either since the groundhogs were summoned to predict the arrival of spring…. I think the larger point is that can there not be a better option on the farm or elsewhere? He was complete dog shit the past few games he has played but the team has no other option. I guess he is somewhat more competent than Steen. Sad Looking forward to Book telling us all how valuable Lauko really is to the teams success 😃 Lauko has been questionable no doubt. If he gets back to pain in the arse Lauko he can be effective. He needs to find it fast. Auditions are happening now and have been.

On the flip side — Pasta seems to need someone chasing him on a breakaway where its all instinct and no thinking. Although that holy roller SO goal had me airborne when it stood up and crept in. Not privy to post game interview but can picture Pasta saying he practiced it to go in that way with that goofy smile on his face.

The team would win more games if everyone was finishing their checks the way that he does. I agree with you, dez. That's team toughness. It's not specifically scrapping but it's not curling away from the bodycheck. The Rangers, Canes and Panthers all do. Even (gulp) some of the gomers on the Laffs are starting to buy into that idea.

I missed the game but saw replays of the goals and now I'm reading the insightful posts of my learned bredren. We've seen Pastrnak use that specific move before. I'm calling it his "Luis Tiant" because like the former Red Sox great's pitching style, 88 looks like he rotates on an axis in his windup with his upper body rotating in the direction of the net then he lets the shot go from behind his back like an anonymous shot that comes out of nowhere at the goalie. He should teach his mates so they add it to their repertoire.

I really hope I'm wrong but I can also picture a few posters on here in about ten years asking "was Pastrnak really worth the big bucks?".

Yep, the curl away is a pet peeve of mine along with guys that glide back to the bench for a line change. Hustle back to the bench so your replacement can get into the play without fear of a penalty for too many men. Rest when you get to the bench, not on the way to it. Those little things are often what seperate winning from losing.

Mind you, it's one thing to know it's coming but it's another to stop it. But no, don't rely on it too often. Keep them guessing.

If that "shot"/windup doesn't work, it does look awful. Reminds me of something like this:IMHO that's too cocky & arrogant.
