I've read on some hockey sites and heard some talking heads say that the Stars are a sexy SC pick. Not with that D and tending they aren't. No way. 2-3 years away pending some improvements on defense. They still haven't "learned to play in the playoffs" yet.

McDavid crashes into the boards, bad fall, possible shoulder or collarbone. Will not return.

Chiarelli presser, confirms surgery (plates/screws) and will out "months".
Wonder when Sweeney will call a presser to discuss the Kelly injury?

It sucks that he's hurt.
I hope he heals on time and is back to 100% quickly.

It sucks that he's hurt. I hope he heals on time and is back to 100% quickly. It really does suck, especially for him and secondly the Oilers. Hopefully he comes back better than ever. On another note, i'm so glad this didn't happen in a game against the B's. We all know what the media and Oiler fans would have to say, as well as hockey fans league wide.

"...and with the first pick in the 2016 Entry Draft, the Edmonton Oilers select, Auston Matthews" wouldn't that just go to figure.

It could go on for years - it would be the funniest thing for the Oilers to continually draft high-octane scoring forwards year after year after year - all of them under 6' and 200 - and then continue to suck. Injuries or goaltending or inexplicable scoring slumps or an inability to score in the shootout would have every year start with "this is it" only to end with "how did it all go so wrong - they have to trade some of those guys". Then they wouldn't. They'd draft the same type of player again and the cycle will continue until Eberle leaves as a UFA, then Hall, then the Nuge....

Of course you don't pass on a player like McDavid, but the ones before him? A couple is fine, but not continually, at some point you have to have a team identity or plan.

Yes all this is true, but PC is at the wheel of fortune, so all is copacetic now in Edmonton.

West is starting to separate with the Hawks in 8th with a 3 pt cushion over the Sharts. Sharts have remembered they are the Sharts. 6-6-0, now and 4-6-0 in their last 10. Jones - "the best backup in the league" and in some people's rhetoric the guy they should have kept over Rask - has come back to Earth. Since giving up just 2 goals in his first 4 games, Jones hasn't given up fewer than 2 in any game since, and he's given up 4 three times in his last 6 including in his last game when he got janked after 40min. While his overall s% is still a very respectable .923, it's only .883 in that stretch, and his GAA is 3.50. Now, any goalie is going to have hot and cold stretches, I know, but in Jones's case, I think it's pretty hard to say just what the Sharks actually have if you want to chalk this up to just a cold streak by a good goalie. Jones had less than 34 games of NHL experience prior to this year. He went undrafted. He was basically a .500 goalie for most of his AHL time.
Of course, I am happy to see the Sharts suck it for a variety of reasons, mostly the draft pick but I never get tired of watching JT "I guess I was the problem" Superstar fail. Looking at the standings, by biggest disappointment with McDavid's injury was that the Oilers were poised to Jump the Sharts. I feel the same way about the firing of Boudreau - do it so the Ducks can find their game and pass the Sharts before it's too late! I know we're all of 1/6th of the way into the season, but the only team I can conceive of being better than the Sharts right now is the Laffs. They're awful. They're doing a year long tank job.
