Love PC or hate PC at least I felt like I was informed, not always to my satisfaction, but at least an attempt was made. For example, when Iginla #1 failed a haggard looking PC came out and offered an explanation. Fast forward to today. What's going on? One source says; boston.cbslocal.com/2015/05/04/report-don-sweeney-ray-shero-jeff-gorton-possible-finalists-for-bruins-gm-job/The usual cast of characters is named as potential GM candidates, nothing substantial there. On the Bruins web site nothing but fluff in the media section. OK, I don't expect them to reveal much about interviewing GM candidates, but I would expect them to reveal a *little* something. Gee, I wonder if some insurance salesman with no NHL experience has made some gesture at becoming GM? Not even one crazy fan story? I would also expect a little more information about why PC was fired other than the one statement Cam made. I would expect more regarding the direction of the team going into the future other than the one statement Cam made. I would expect a statement about the Providence Bruins - nothing there at all. Surely they could say something about Pastrnak or Subban at least and what they saw of him the playoffs and how we can interpret that for his career. Or what about one of these free agent college players? Or what about the contracts of several guys in Providence? Are they going to resign Cross, really? Or Robins? I would expect at least some of the business as usual to be going on, but there appears to be nothing. Do they assume everyone has moved onto the Red Sox or something? Cam and Charlie - the people who pay the bills deserve a little something here and there. The hardcore fans deserve more than just crickets.

Very quiet on the Bruins front. Part of it is PC really never addressed himself. Took the high road. Usually when something like this happens we here from the team, the fired party issues a statement and we hear back from the organization. Not the case here. I would really like to hear PC's point of view here but it doesn't look like it will ever happen.

I can't help but wonder if the plan was to hire Gorton, and now the Rangers won't allow the Bruins to talk with him.
Thus, the holding pattern.

Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question, but, are the Bruins even allowed to talk to Gorton or anyone who's team is still active in the playoffs?

They're allowed to talk to any manager as long as the other teams give permission. Eliotte Friedman wrote in his column last week that Glen Sather prefers to wait until after the postseason. I imagine that's more out of principle. GMs just watch the action during the playoffs, nevermind assistant GMs.

Thanks for clarifying! I really wish you'd change your avatar. That movie scarred me when i was a youngin. The book scarred me even more when i read it as an adult.

I don't feel the B's have a need to reveal anything to the fans. When they fired the GM, they told us. When they hire the next one, they'll tell us. Also, they have no need to pander to the hardcore fans. We aren't going anywhere.

It's the difference between a top notch organization in any business, there are the primary goals and then there are all the little things to keep their customers happy and/or make them feel good.

I'm happy I'm a Bruins fan. I enjoy following the team and watching the games. That they haven't updated me on the fact that there is no news to update me on isn't really going to cloud my day.

The B's exhaustive search has been narrowed to 3 candidates, there is no rush, the draft and free agency are over a month away. When the new GM is finally named before these two events take place,he will be well versed in all areas of the way the B's operate, the way their scouting dept works and how their farm team is stocked. It will be a seamless transition, and Cam will have his ear to take direction. I hope Don Sweeney does a good job.

I don't recall a GM that gets axed ever saying anything. Shero, Nonis, Gillis none of them said boo. Gillis has completely vanished from the hockey world. The other thing is that Toronto, Pitts, or very few else has ever said much of of anything after a firing, after the intial presser. Why keep it going? It's a chapter that ended and a time to move along. There's a lot of us that would like to know what happened between Pete and Cam, but as an organization there's no way they're going to air that Dirty laundry to the public. So, any news that pertains to the Bruins will be given by the new GM. I think if it was Sweeney they would've announced it by now. I think it's Gorton with Don staying where he is for awhile longer.Or maybe getting a shot with someone else as GM.

Do you think there's any chance he would leave if he didn't get the job?

Thought Slats and Harry were old fishing buddies?
Guessing Gorton's not coming. Congratulations Donny!

Bring in Gillis. The team then can truly join the dark side of the force and become the most hated team in the league. His first moves would be to sign Raffi Torres and Mike Ribiero.
I never was a huge Don Sweeney fan as a player. He was nothing special. All of this talk about him brings back boring memories of his time as a Bruin. Therefore, for no apparent good reason, I am hoping for anyone but him.

Thought Stanley was going to be the next GM. I haven't even seen him being mentioned. Very disappointing.

Starting to seem unlikely that it will be anyone other than Sweeney.

"I never was a huge Don Sweeney fan as a player. He was nothing special."
I go both ways on this. On the one hand, I like the fact that he was not a star--don't need a GM whose player-ego might get in the way. Plus, he's the third-longest-tenured player in team history--a lot of team pride and institutional memory there. If nothing else, he surely knows the "Bruins Way."
On the other hand, I'm simply nervous about the "getting the band back together" feel of the whole thing.

Sweeney was a good soldier for the Bruins. In way over his head when paired with Bourque but he put the time and effort in for many years both on and off the ice. Intelligent guy too. I have no problems with him..

I think the "no news" part is a bad thing. I remember non playoff teams doing trades and was surprised to learn you could do that, I thought it all had to wait for Jul 1. But besides that, there should be a rookie camp after the draft, they haven't announced that, school is out - no signings? No statements about the Providence Bruins playoff run or any players they will resign or not for them - surely they have had their exit interviews. It makes me wonder if the business has practically shut down without a GM. I went through their archives and saw a lot of media releases in earlier nonplayoff years. Matter of fact - check out bruins.nhl.com/club/newsindex.htm?pg=280Dark days 9 years ago - but it appears that someone has been goofing around at Bruins HQ - check "Damaged Cans" and "Pain1" somehow I don't think that those were real press releases. PC is announced as GM on that page.
