If say DK is done, then it's July 9....to me it's been decided and the B's already know. If he's done, no reason to wait to say he is done. Therefore he's not done.

They need to learn from the Bertuzzi incident... Get in now before DS uses the capspace for someone else and they are no longer part of the matter plan. Sorry Bergs, we tried but I just spent your money on Whitfield... Maybe the leafs can fit you in.

They need to learn from the Bertuzzi incident... Get in now before DS uses the capspace for someone else and they are no longer part of the matter plan. Sorry Bergs, we tried but I just spent your money on Whitfield... Maybe the leafs can fit you in. I think the only way that Cap comes into play for Bergeron and Krejci is if they want more than the deal Krejci took last year, meaning basically that yeah, they're willing to play for peanuts vs the bag of cash Kopitar got, but they want the biggest bag of peanuts the Bruins have. So I can see a reasonable scenario where the Bruins have said to both that they're willing to see what's possible, but they need to make their other moves first including signing Freddy and Swayman post arb. There's another buyout window there in the wake of those decisions. If they get Swayman and Freddy at $4M total (they won't), then the Bruins would be in a position to offer bigger deals to the veteran Cs - and because the bonuses cannot exceed the salary, every dollar of salary they get will be doubled. If only Bergeron comes back, and they get Swayman and Frederic at a decent number, Bergeron could in theory get a deal exactly like what he signed last year. If both come back, they both get about $1.5M+$1.5M, or maybe Krejci is the bigger man again and takes $1M+$1M, and Bergeron gets 2+2. But if Freddy gets $2M and Sway gets $4M, now they don't have the cash for either guy and they'll have to make a move. That's not an issue; they'll make a move of some kind and there will be a budget available for one or both Cs. This is another reason to announce nothing yet. Get all of your less-discretionary business done. Know exactly what you can offer them. If they're willing to wait and continue to say they will only play for the Boston Bruins, then you have that luxury and should be grateful that THEY are willing to wait for YOUR process to play out. Tells you also how different this is from the Bertuzzi situation. They weren't willing to wait on Bertuzzi and he wasn't willing to wait on them. He went to market, but as we know, in a constrained world like the one we're in right now, the available cash for UFAs dries up fast. I think the Bruins are Cup contenders with Bergeron and Krejci regardless of the other losses. I don't think they're significantly better with Bertuzzi but without their Cs, and it would be major surgery to add a proven C if you've already added Bertuzzi.

I think there may be plenty of reasons not to announce, not all that we've considered. For example, if you're negotiating with the Jets for Schneiffle. On Friday, Winnipeg is seriously considering your offer of Carlo, Lysell and a conditional first if he signs, and you get permission to talk to the agent about an extension. On Saturday, DK announces his retirement. On Sunday, Winnipeg wants a second first rounder conditional on you making the playoffs. They will throw you an anchor if they think you're desperate because your Plan B is now off the table.

Fundamentally, we don't know what they plan to do, but we don't know if they already know or if they've signaled to the Bruins and the Bruins have asked them to let things play out.

"If Freddy gets $2M and Sway gets $4M, now they don't have the cash for either guy and they'll have to make a move."
Hopefully Grzelcyk not Forbort as the Bs need a good PK. Don't think trading out Greer and Zboril in seperate trades would create enough space for Bergeron after the TFred and Swayze contracts.

The suits don't look at it that way. The players don't. The number one goal of any NHL team is to sell as many tickets as possible for 41 home games. That's the business model. Players get the big bucks, and employment in general, based on regular season stats. Bruins don't have to worry about that right now...they've been good for a long time, but it's well known that if they suck for a few years, attendance goes to shit, same as it does anywhere except TO and Montreal. You can't build a team to win the cup, you can only build one to compete for a Cup. It's random, history proves that. You've said this, and I agree. I had a lot of fun, got a lot of enjoyment watching the Bruins historic run, last fall/winter. It was an amazing accomplishment, lasted over 7 months, and it's stupid to say something I spent as much time investing myself in.. was a waste. It wasn't, it was history. What was stupid....was expectation, going into a a random mixmaster, was Cup or bust. Too many variables on a 7 game season. Losing to florida in round 1 was the end of the world, but losing to florida in round 3, wouldn't have been quite so bad? that's the narrative, and it's dumb. they didn't go deep. I hope they don't feel so entitled to do that. The hockey experience has to be bigger than just the playoffs, even though the ultimate prize, is..the ultimate prize. Look, getting laid is certainly the bottom line, but an evening with Halle Berry and a hand job shouldn't be considered disaster either. This stuff is about the same thing. I mean, we've all got our own opinions on what makes a successful season... OC hasnt stopped buying his 2023 B's merch and has been partying like OV after he won the cup because of all the regular season records. Lots have said it is what it is and are moving on to next year, just like the last 10+ years and Moongoats and I are just disgusted with the mother of all collapses.. But a Haley Berry HJ, while there are a couple levels about that seems a bit lofty as a comparison point... The B's did have the greatest season in the history of the sport, so ya, they earned a spot at the dinner table with Haley Berry and they got up 3-1...looking good, small talk made and ordered some appetizers... Oh the bruschetta looks good when it arrives and Haley is give give the "fuck me" eyes as she sips on her cocktail! Nice! Except, they get so nervous they freak out and lose all control blow a load in their shorts with a mouthful of bruschetta and then jump up on the table and push out a giant steamy log right in Haley's salad, call Haley's mother a five nippled shit pig as you are being dragged out by security just to make sure you never score a date with her again... That's a bit more accurate of a comparison of the post season performance. Matthew Tkachuk and Bob were occupying Haley's hands at the end of the night. The whole Knights org has been bending her over the cup for months now. I take back everything I said

Hi everyone! Yes, I'm still alive My life-schedule keeps me so busy I am seldom able to post, but I check in with you all to see what you have to say (almost daily). I am in the camp that Bergy comes back and Krec retires. But, I can see the argument that Lucic coming back could be a positive influence on their final decisions... I hope you all had a great Independence Day Holiday! I spent mine in Bridgeport, CT with my daughter and her new husband. Semi-retired now... woohoo! My best to all the original Boston.com posters. Why are people so sure Krejci isn't back? If it's that much of a certainty, why no announcement yet? Or do we assume the Bruins know, and are letting DK pick when he makes the news public? I don't think Bergeron's a lock, but I'll play the game we are asked to play instead of cheating and pretending I'm the house and setting odds like some kind of sandog. Krejci - retires Bergeron - returns Lucic - 15-15-30 getting some PP2 time and some third like LW time with TFreddy at C. I've said before I think the drama over the drama is just drama. I don't think there is any drama, just impatience from fans. There's a better than even chance the Bruins already know one or both answers and are conducting themselves accordingly, and even if they don't, I think "accordingly" amounts to there is an offer on the table from the Bruins to both players. The Bruins are not going to pull the offers; the players are not going to shop for better offers. All of the pressure that you expect from a contract negotiation doesn't exist because of it. So why does it matter if they take their time to decide. Both Lucic and Chara fought for opportunity because they had to. These guys have offers on the table. Not lucrative ones, and if they were coming back to make the money, the offers probably aren't on the table. It probably matters more that they've made $70M and $90M plus in their careers on the return side if they only want to play for the Bruins. And frankly, I don't want them because they feel obligated. I could see both looking at last year and saying "enough". If the whole thing broke Sizz (and it did, it really did), I can only imagine the blow to the ego of a guy who has repeatedly led the playoffs in scoring and a guy whose career reputation is that he wins at every level. Epic failure whether injuries or no, whether you call it a choke, or no. They have to want it, and I would bet part of wanting it is believing they can - not erase - but correct the idea that that will be their last memorable series. They'll be back or they won't. I don't think it changes anything other than the team will be better with them than without in large part because they'll be playing for peanuts on the dollar value-wise. I like this, even though it's just the first and last paragraph. It isn't impatience from fans, it's drama. it's drama because it isn't about the norms we always see, money, trades, etc. it's about whether these 2 wanna be bothered playing in the NHL anymore. It's drama, because the company hid the truth for a long time, last year waiting for just the right moment, in their opinion, to make a splash. the players and the company now seem to feel it's a good thing, to treat us like children on Christmas Eve, cept do it for 4 months. If your hunch that the Bruins know one, or both answers...that proves my drama contention. of course there's an offer on the table. "Obligation" isn't a bad thing, it's good. No, Lucic and Chara did not need to fight for opportunity. they've made their millions. They don't need to play in this league either, and coulda walked away at any time too....but they're gamers. that's what i'm speaking to. Lucic and Chara fought for the dream, as do 95% of the rest of them. DK and PB?...repeatedly not sure it's worth the bother, even while delivering better than they did in their early 20's. It's kickin the gods, right in the pills. Much ink has been spilled about Bergerons upcoming baby. fuck me. is he the first person to ever father a child in the NHL? what a crock a shit. It's as little as a 7 month entitled ride, for millions. I don't want guys on my team, that figure it's that much of strain on their self important lives. It's drama because they both committed to make a decision by free agency and now that deadline has long past and neither have communicated a decision. This isn't like deciding whether to run it back on your summer beer league team. It's a multi-million dollar franchise and business with very real planning processes and business considerations. Sweeney should bear some responsibility here as well because his public deference to both of them is just wrong. Sweeney thinks he's still a player and wants to be friends with these guys so he won't ruffle feathers, but the fact is he needs to take a page out of the Brad Stevens/Bill Belicheck playbook and realize that cold, hard business decisions need to be made and that shouldn't affect the personal side of the relationship. Both Bergy and DK would understand if Sweeney put a hard deadline on them and moved on when that deadline was not met --- and frankly if they didn't then f them. In fact, I put most of the blame for this situation on Sweeney for basically giving these guys the option to sit on the beach and hold up the franchise for most of the summer. I'm not going to hate on Bergy or DK and say they aren't "gamers" because their careers speak for themselves and they are all time greats in Boston and still very good hockey players. If they were both healthy in the first round, we win it, so not like they don't have value or make us better. It's just that this situation borders on absurd at this point. No way any team should be sitting here in mid July waiting for their 1C and 2C to decide if they happen to want to play hockey this year. Even worse when you bring in the fact that this is two years in a row.

Sits on the fence, but once Bergy says no, he realizes that he can once again be the #1C for this team and get the best wingers and PP time that he had earlier in his career. It's one thing to come back and play second fiddle to Bergy and also feel Zacha breathing down his neck for that 2C spot. It's another thing to come back knowing that either Marchand or Pasta is pretty much guaranteed to be on your wing and know you will be on PP1. He could potentially have his best offensive season ever under Monty's system and with the PP time that he really hasn't gotten much of in past years.

Both greybeards are coming back….
After a few weeks with the newborn, Bergy will tell the wife I need to go back to the rink….
Wouldn’t place any money on Krejci, but think that if he was hanging them up that he would’ve announced it already….

Now if one could predict which game he’d get hurt we’d be on to something…. Personally I don’t want any part time players on my team…. One thing to rest players later in season once you’ve locked up a playoff spot…. Another to be giving guys nights off before then and possibly losing needed points….

One thing to rest players later in season once you’ve locked up a playoff spot…. Another to be giving guys nights off before then and possibly losing needed points…. Nah, if he is only 2m per, well, he can play. Injuries, watch Marchand this year. Hips are lethal in recovery especially in hockey. I agree DS should be looking for a top end center if it can be had. Transition is my concentration of thought, Bergeron has a future beyond the playing career. IMO he should be a replacement for Cam.
