Late but bold prediction: The Bruins are decent, but do not make the playoffs. With that reality setting in they become mid-season sellers and flip the likes of Debrusk, Ullmark, Grizz, Zacha, and Frederic for prospects and picks.
Holding onto Pastrnak, Marchand, McAvoy, Lindholm, Carlo, and Swayman gives them the hope of a quick rolling rebuild. They have their first interesting draft day in several years.
Haggs polishes off a large pizza with spicy sausage at the trade deadline, and is rushed to the hospital in an ambulance with vicious heartburn, presenting as perceived heart attack symptoms. Other than flattening one on the tires in a hospital wheel chair, he is released without damages.

As such, they will fight till the end.

I think the only fly in this oink mint is Marchand's age and the window for the picks and prospects to step in and contribute. Marchand's 36 next season and due for a new contract the season after that. Is he still a cornerstone at 36, and if so, for how much and for how long? And if you take Marchand out of the equation, your rolling rebuild is a very solid top 3 on the blueline and a franchise goalie - great! - but your only offensive weapon is Pastrnak. Pasta's good, but less good without sauce, hopefully some protein, a side salad and some garlic bread. Someone with a good two-way game who can put the puck on his stick reliably for a one timer. And it's another huge step backward at the C position unless the players you get back are stepping into the pivot. Seems like a good idea; definitely bold, but I think I'd be cringing a bit over the (relatively high) potential for Sweeney to pooch the picks and the prospects to flop.

I didn't read this as interesting because of a tank; depending on how far out they are when the make this move, I think they could stay out of the bottom 7-10 if motivation isn't an issue. And who knows, maybe one of the prospects is a Tage who only really hits his stride after a trade gives him a golden opportunity to step up several years after his draft. Sort of the way Allison and Carter popped after the trade in 96-97. "Interesting" could mean getting back into the draft for a change.

'Interesting' would depend on being able to work their way back into the 1st round, as sellers at the deadline, not by tanking. Actually, the current first round pick being in enemy hands is a great reason to push throughout the season. But if the playoffs seem mathematically questionable or doubtful, I hope the Bruins can prey on teams in the position they have been in over recent years. Good enough to go 'all-in' and wanting some useful pieces enough to toss their late 1st round pick back the other way. Even a pick at 20-30 would be a lot more interesting than recent years.

Agreed in that the rolling rebuild would have to involve Marchand holding up in good form for a few more years, or someone like Lysell taking off...or the cap space for a significant FA signing at forward...or the small miracle of Poitras/Harrison developing fast and furious as useful NHL centers. A lot needs to go right and Sweeney will need to work some magic. It's funny (odd funny, not ha-ha), that when Sweeney took the reins from Chiarelli, there was an oft repeated sentiment that Chairelli failed by leaving the prospect system so threadbare in his annual chasing of a(nother) Cup. Well, here we are again. Only further from a Cup at the NHL level.

Bold predictions: Poitras and Beecher start the season as 3C and 4C, moving Geekie to wing. Geekie ends up gelling with Coyle and DeBrusk, allowing us to play Marchand and Pasta together with Zacha. Gryz gets hurt, we call up Lohrei, and he plays great with Carlo, allowing Lindhold and Charlie to play together on the top pair. When Gryz returns, he plays on the 3rd pair with Forbort, and despite both being LHD, they play great together as Forbort's size and defensive responsibility allow Gryz to be a puck moving defenseman on the 3rd pair.

OK. Lohrei not only makes the team, but plays top-4 with CMac and also makes the All-Rookie team. Bruins D is exceptional, pushing them into contention. Gryz or Forbort is dealt to make cap space and a roster spot. B's don't finish 1st overall, but are in the mix and underlying numbers such as goal diff are very solid. They make a deadline deal for a forward. Linus is not #1G by the end of the season. They win the Cup, Marchand licks it rather than the traditional kiss.
