Also, did Beleskey get these points totals playing on the Ducks 1st line all season long ? I don't think so, his point totals should spike upward. He will bring the physical play as well on a more consistent basis.

Our OHL followers can speak to it better, but statistically his 2007-08 year was fantastic; 41-49-90 in 62 games then added another 12-21-33 in playoffs. Point is, it's not like the production has never been there in his universe.

If anyone would have said in the past that either ( not both ) Hayes or Belesky would replace what Lucic does ...........I would have said they were nuts. Saying the same thing today would get the same reaction from me. Lucic's skillset is that of a few players in the league.........and their names aren't Belesky or Hayes.

Agree chowda, but can Beleskey go 20-20-40 playing alongside Krejci? Can he throw some big hits and get in on the forecheck? Can he score goals when things tighten up, like playoffs? How far will this guy be trailing Lucic's production and skillset?

But on a whole nobody could replace in the same way what Lucic could do for the Bruins. Belesky or Hayes will just have to make Bruins fans forget Lucic with what they do best on the ice. Hopefully the fit and the sum of what these two bring to the Bruins can bring the Bruins better team play then what we saw last year. New players sometimes brings new life and enthusiasm to a team. That's what I'm hoping for.

Of course Beleskey and or Hayes, will not, or cannot replace Lucic, they are not the same players. Can they replace his points and his forecheck and physical play? I say yes on both counts. Can Hayes & Beleskey match Fats fighting abilities? Absolutely not, but thats not why they were acquired. The fact remains, Milans fighting or
actually lack of it in the last couple seasons were replaced by idle threats. When Fat was on his game, he was a beast, but it had became more and more scarce. He'll likely have a good season for LA, we'll see if they want to pony up $7 to $8 mil a season next summer.

Hard to argue that they are better after subtracting; Lucic, Hamilton, Soderberg & Smith and replacing with C. Miller, Beleskey & Hayes. Even Campbell and Paille are out, replaced with Rinaldo. Place a high hope in some better health; Krejci & Chara should be much better. Even Seidenberg is a full year beyond his injury/surgery. Expect growth from Pastrnak, could really be an important piece next year. Also expect growth from Spooner to help ease or exceed the loss of Yeti. Big opportunity for Connelly to establish himself. Think CJ will have no shortage of options with his lineup, maybe that reflects some of the uncertainty. Defense was already suspect with Hamilton, however, improved health from Cedfano and Seidenberg will be big. If Krug can establish top-4, things are looking a little better there. Add another step-up from; C.Miller, Trotman or Morrow can only strengthen the group. I think C. Miller is a huge key in the way the B's d-men play out this year. I have a feeling CJ is going to try & play him with Seids to start the season. Morrow could end up with Chara & Krug will stay with McQ. K. Miller, Irwin & Trotman end up fighting for that 7th spot.

He ended up being a joke last season & may have went into beast mode maybe 5x in the whole season & that wasn't for a full game it was more spotty.

I like the flexibility that Hayes and Beleskey gives Julien as well.

I absolutely hate that DS and CN decided to move Fat. The guy was the one of the faces of the franchise and played like a true Bruin should. Neely and Sweeney are gonna sink or swim with what they've done. If it's a disaster by the Winter Classic, they both should go. If it works out, then they're smarter than me (save the jokes).

One superstar on a team does not win Cups. Gone are the days when you could have a bunch of superstars on the same team for a long period of time (See Edm. in late 80s And Isles in early 80s and B's in early 70s). Chicago is a great team but they have been also super lucky with injuries to the other team's best players (Bergeron's lung & Bishop's leg) in the Cup Finals.
Health, luck, goaltending, and systems of play all trump the superstars. The margin for error and difference between teams can come down to a few shootout goals in today's NHL. The Bruins had horrible luck last year in terms of health, shootouts, and an improbable run by the Sens. If the B's play the same exact way as last year, then I still think they get in the playoffs. That is a good sign since I think more will go their way this year.

Cam and Don said "tough cookies" on staying the same. I agree with them. The team didn't grow it became stagnate. There needed to be some turnover. Some turnover is always necessary. With virtually identical situations, the Kings and Bruins, saw it entirely different. By the midway point, there should be some clarity whether those 2 philosophies were merely different flavours, or one excercised better vision than the other. Both organizations got extremely hot during three Cup runs. Now Bruins fans just need there team to get a 2nd Cup.

I keep thinking back to the '14 playoffs when the team-wide scoring funk started and continued this past season. The production of the players that DS has brought in doesnt look to me like they can replace the production of those who were dealt. On paper anyway. But I do see them being a team that is going to work hard every night. They have good depth. And I hope the chemistry of the team can return to what it was when Shawn Thornton was here. If these things translate into more goals then they will be just fine.

"This year, there are no comparable replacements for either Lucic, or Hamilton." Beleskey and Hayes replace Lucic both physically and scoring. Hamilton's offense will need to be replaced. I think offense from Dougie could be replaced by committee, UFA or via trade. Who are you kidding? Neither Belesky nor Hayes can replace what Lucic brought to the table. Lucic has been consistently producing 50-60 pt seasons for a while now. I was also disappointed with his production last year, but he still put up 44 pts last year Belesky had 32 Hayes had 35 Both had career seasons. To compare these guys to Lucic is a joke. And we aren't even touching on the fact that Lucic was consistently top 10 in the NHL in hits, can drop the gloves, and would occasionally go into beast mode and start to instill fear in whoever he went into the corner with. We lost him because we couldn't afford him -- it sucks, but let's not try to pretend that we "replaced" him with either Belesky or Hayes. That's just setting yourself up for disappointment. But the good news is that team success is different from individual success and it is about the sum of the parts, not necessarily about "replacing" one player But But Milan hits! Talking about Lucic dropping the gloves is irrelevant. He intimidated no one last season...no one nor did he intimidate any Canadien during the 2014 playoffs. Milan was a running joke in the at series and all the games up in Montreal during last years regular season games. Mentioning Lucic and assists to defend him is another laughable joke. You are right Lucic priced himself out of Boston by not backng up all his yapping in the handshake line and deciding on the wrong time not go out and play hard every night. The Spooner being Lucic's center was another joke of an excuse most of the season. Even when he got his binky back he nothing. 8 goals in Milan's last 32 games with the Bruins when his great offense was needed the most. Julien gets two offensive players that give him more flexibility up n down the lineup for a great price. PS. Lucic is going to go out have a great year in LA and get his 8 year contract from Benning the following summer. Good for him!

Wouldn't surprise me if Lucic got orders to dial it back a bit regarding his fighting and following up on his murder threats, both by the team and the league. And it was a down year for everybody in the goal department. Athletes are allowed to suck sometimes too.

Not with the cap being as tight as it is, can players relied on for offense, have down years like that.
I became a fan of Lucic because of his relentess forcheck and scoring in big moments.
I could care less if Lucic ever fought again. And I can't wait to drive up to LA and see him play.
It's a contract year!

Now that it's not the Bruins' problem, "whither Lucic?" is a more interesting game. Kings do have about $6M+ in cap space I think now that they have Voynov off the books and in jail and Richards off the books and possibly looking at jail time and Stoll off the books and narrowly avoiding jail time (any other felons out there?). The only really important pieces up next year are Lucic and Kopitar, so give 'em a combined 16 yrs and 130 mil and Dean-o can take the summer off, baby! Except the following year, Toffoli and Pearson are up as RFAs and there's no significant money coming off until 2019 (and that's Doughty) unless Gaborik retires.
They may have to make the same calculation Boston did, which likely means Lucic is on the move. The Canucks will be in a decent position to get him, but they don't really have the pieces to make a real run for a Cup, and with the Sedins closing in on the end of their days as top tier players, I don't think Lucic is target #1.
How hilarious would it be if the Bruins bring him back as a UFA? Conspiracy Theory!!
Almost enough to have me singing Bob Seger:
What will the Fat Man Do? What NHL team is he going to? Never thought he'd be out of here What will the Fat Man Do?

That's if Richards cap hit stays off the books.
EDIT: "If the Kings are ultimately successful in terminating Richards' contract, they will face only a $1.32 million ''recapture'' penalty over the next five seasons. If the NHLPA is successful with its grievance, the Kings could owe Richards $5.75 million in each of the next five seasons."
"Eric Macramalla of Forbes, argues that it’s unlikely that the Kings will be successful, and he points to Major League Baseball as an example of why. Among the cases he cites is that of Lamarr Hoyt, who was jailed on drug charges and would seem a more obvious candidate for contract termination. Instead, Macramalla writes, the union “filed a grievance and won.”

Macarmalla is a hit and miss kind of guy. His Forbes stuff tends to be less goofy than some of his TSN stuff or his radio show. So while the obvious comeback on the Lamarr Hoyt comparison is "different CBAs, different eras," I'm not completely convinced Macramalla didn't compare the language of the CBAs to come to that point.

I am still amazed at the Judge in the Hoyt case. There is no way he should have been reinstated.

I just don't think the Kings gave up as much as they did to not do everything in their power to not re-sign him, but it would be really nice to see him back in Boston, but not for 8 million playing the style he plays.

If the Bruins couldn't foresee paying him big bucks on an extension now, why would they want to when Fat is a yr older and after another yr of wear and tear, not gonna happen imo.

Can we please kill this idea right now?
I swear to God I'll lose my mind if "maybe Lucic will come back to Boston next summer" becomes the new "if they trade Kelly".
