Sad news to hear about Blaine Lacher! Dead at 53! Nothing confirmed, but hearing it was death by suicide!

Obscure goalie in Bruins past much like Cleon Daskalakis. I did find this interesting however on wiki when he played at Lake Superior State ...
He set an NCAA Division I shutout record of 375:01, which still standed as of 2024. Lacher gave up his final year of eligibility to sign as a free agent with the Boston Bruins.

I knew about the record, didn't realize it still stood. I heard he didn't want to want to be an NHL goalie anymore & wanted to become a police officer. I don't know if he ever did or not.

I hate seeing things like this. Guy is a great example of why teams have to avoid the temptation to buy in on early returns from a rookie. I remember him being hot to start but then you started to see the holes in his game and so did everyone else. RIP Lacher.

Remembering that time and the years before and after, make me realize what a luxury the B's goaltending strength has been the last 15 or so years. RIP Blaine.
