Shoulder Surgery.
Sad to see him done, but sorta happy to know the reason they reduced his role/kept him out was due to injury and not stupidity. He did leave 3 games holding his shoulder.
They've done well with the current mix, but this may put pressure on to add some scoring.

There was something up for sure, didn't seem the same after that hit and injury. I hope it heals well and he comes back stronger.

Chappys take on "slipping hits" is now in focus. Feel bad for the kid out 5 months. It was promising start and I think he's going to be a good Bruin.

5 months takes us to July. Hope this doesn't impact his ability to add bulk and strength in the offseason. Wouldn't be surprised if he starts next year in the AHL to grow his game and body.

It was weird because Poitras initiated the hit and it was by no means a bone shaker, but he fell to the ice, got up,and gingerly skated to the bench.

It was weird because Poitras initiated the hit and it was by no means a bone shaker, but he fell to the ice, got up,and gingerly skated to the bench. Not the first time he left a game with a shoulder, though. Dec. 16th, he got slammed from behind by Eric Gustafsson in the Rangers game and fell into the boards. He was slow to get up and went down the tunnel. I think he's had at least three other incidents that led to him being slow to get up and all were similarly shoulder-related. And that would make sense of his reduced TOI as well as his lame performance at the WJHC when you hoped an NHLer would shine. Now that we know this news, I would say that probably the two things in his game I can also now say I sort of noticed but didn't really until thinking about it are the dip in shot frequency and effectiveness and a reduced willingness to go hard to the net, which was one of the things you had to love in his first month. Up to the Gustafsson hit, he was taking 1.4 shot's game, scored 5 goals in 26 games, and shooting 13.6%, and playing over 14 min a game. Since then, 0 goals and just 3 shots in 7 games while playing about 10 min a game.

The good thing about shoulder surgery is that you're more likely to have a tight shoulder that doesn't pop out than not, and that usually means you have good torque and strength (depending on what other damage might have happened). The bad news for a 20 yr old is that it's always a little bit tight and will ache for no effing reason. My surgery was over a decade ago now, and while it's better than not having had it, it's not going to be fun for him when he hits 40 and it's had 20 years to be a dick to him.
