Swayman gets game 2 but if he looks as bad as he has in 1/2 his recent games it has to be Linus or bust. Unfortunately I had great seats at this game and both Swayman’s overall body language and ineffectualness on that five-hole goal scream - his heads not right. Maybe it’s because they didn’t trade his huggy buddy and give him goalie 1 money as was leaked (7 mill). Maybe not..but he’s not exactly good right now, about a 90% save percentage since the break.

Yes definitely, just look at the 1st Canes non gl that was overturned, horrible shot that Sway turned into an adventure. The only reason it didn't count is because it wasn't entirely across the line. Jeremy just doesn't seem in the zone lately, doesn't mean he can't get his mojo back but time is of the essence.

They had 12 fewer points because they played behind the two retirees, and their +/- was almost identical on last year's team. We all remember that saying Zacha and Coyle in the prime of their careers are performing almost as well and Bergeron and DK did when they were so close to retirement their bodies were held together by spit and string does not mean saying these guys are Bergeron and Krejci, right? I gotta say, this place is getting ludicrous. There is no player on this team who is immune to the idea that the Bruins can upgrade on them tomorrow by going down to the ol' Well can hauling up a bucket of vintage Orr. I mean Fuck. This is a 107 point team that's first in the division AFTER losing 37, 46, meth face Bert, Orlov, Hall, Foligno and replacing them with guys who make under $2.25M. Oh, but book, they aren't a contender because I FEEEL LIKE they aren't a contender. They don't pass the eye test. I'm so sick of that eye test bullshit. DeBrusk once went through a long bought of COVID related depression and asked for a trade, and despite him being a fairly consistent scorer for 6 of 7 years in his career, people can't get rid of him fast enough because he wouldn't have fit in with the late 70s Bruins. Grz, for all his faults (and there are many) manages to give this team good minutes evaluated more goals for when he's on the ice than goals against. Pastrnak is "goofy" and "doesn't care enough" and gives the puck away a lot. Zacha is too Euro or something and doesn't score like a classic #1C so he should be replaced even though his FO% is highest on the team. Coyle is a 3rd line C no matter what he does, and he's overpaid, so fuck him in the ear. Geekie's never been a scorer in this league so he's a waste of a jersey. Heinen was a walk on, and he's an ex-Bruin, so he's a waste of space. Lindholm isn't going to be a Norris contender this year, so fuck him anyway all the way back to Sweden. McAvoy doesn't shoot enough and doesn't score like Makar or hit like Stevens so why are they paying him so much? Both goalies can't hold leads and give up soft goals from bad angles. Trade them both. Meanwhile Marchand has one goal in the last 50 games or something and no one bats an eye; rookie call ups have done SFA but because they haven't been around long enough for people to hate them, you're calling for undrafted NCAA signees to be on the top line, etc. etc. etc. And I'm also tired of the "they aren't going to win the Cup..." talk. That is the most cowardly statement in all of sports. Way to go out on a limb! You could find an alien landing a saucer in a field and flying around the galaxy and probing things anally, explain only that there are 16 teams in the playoffs and only one can win the Cup, and if you give it a choice to bet on any one team winning the cup or any one team to NOT win the cup, the alien would make the same prediction having never seen a second of hockey...or humans. Does this team have weaknesses? Yes. Can it win games despite those weaknesses? Well, as I showed the other day, they're now something like 27-9-7 against teams in the playoffs. So yeah. They can. Do other teams also have weaknesses? Hell, yeah. Not every player on this team is perfect, but the Bruins have been about being more than the sum of their parts for the last 20 years, and to quote the coach after last night's loss - it's an 82 game season and we're in first place. I think we'll be fine. Hey, that’s Danny’s schtick! book is the forum's Milton Berle.

Hey nite, what do you think about the goalie situation now for B's? What do you do if you were the coach. I'm doing a rotation no matter what with this tandem at least to start. If the playoffs started today? Ully gets game 1. If Ullmark started game 1 and is terrific, I just don't see them immediately turning the net over to Sway, unless say Sway actually can look like that All-Star version in his last start or two...gotta see something before that automatic switch. Not against it, certainly would make the Sizz happy, but it's not like it didn't work in 1972 because it did. So there is a precedent for it. But that was the Big Bad B's and the best team in hockey. This is not the best team in hockey this season (last year yes), but it's a team that will rely on the goaltending maybe more than ever. It will be an interesting thing for the B's and Monty. This is the only thing that negates that tandem strategy--said it before--you have the mojo, you win and then you go to Sway who is awful or coughs up 2 1st period goals and the team loses game #2. Sure it's only 1-1 in the series at that point, but you don't think Monty and the staff (Goalie Bob) wouldn't be kicking themselves to not want a 2-0 lead in the series? That's the problem with expecting or holding to the tandem. Mr. Hulot posted that thing about all the Cup winners last 50 years and how they were utilized...one that stood out was Oilers turning to Moog or Fuhr based on the previous game. Changing to change momentum after a loss. That's probably the more expected way of using 2 goalies. And I feel like that may be how it goes for Ullmark/Sway.

I think we'll be fine. Hey, that’s Danny’s schtick! Go play the lottery because the planets are aligned if I agree with danny. I'm happy to criticize when the team deserves it; I just don't understand the level of disdain some people have for the players on a first place 107 point team. I suppose some of it is understandable. When they went all in last year, I remember having a discussion on here that people needed to remember what a perfect storm it took to get a record number of wins and points, and not to rip the team for taking a step back. But that was when most people - Bs fans, the media, casual fans around the league, nuns, bakers, the cast of the original Hawai'i 5-0... - thought that the Bruins would be in a dogfight to make the playoffs with Ottawa, Detroit and Buffalo coming into their own. Nope. And frankly, it feels very much "on paper" vs. on the ice to me, just like that prediction Boston would be passed by the pretenders. People looked at the roster and provenance of the players on Buffalo and Detroit and Ottawa and said OH! that's a lot of talent! Ottawa has a bunch of young scorers like Tkachuk and Stutzle (100point guy last year), Norris (30+ goal guy) and Batherson, and a bunch of high skill D in Chabot and Chychrun and Sanderson - much more name recognition and offensive pedigree than Zacha, Coyle, Geekie, Frederic, DeBrusk - basically anyone but Pastrnak and Marchand. Same for Buffalo and Detroit. Feels a lot like that lack of pedigree has everyone magnifying every mistake or missed chance the Bruins make, too, like somehow there's no balance with the things they do very well. When they had their worst slump of the season, a lot of people here wanted to say "see, this is who they really are..." but they've righted the ship and on balance are a first place team. PP is in a wicked slump, but it was cruising over 25% with the same personnel up to Christmas or even the ASG, but again, their worst performance is who they really are in the eyes of some. Coyle and Zacha are not classic #1C. If that's what you're looking for, then you're going to always rate them as lesser players. But the Bruins haven't had a classic #1C since Marc Savard. Bergeron had one season where he was above a point/game, and one season just below, and the rest of his career he was more 0.80 on average. Krejci never had more than 73 points, never hit point/game status, but was the #1C on this club for half a decade. Bruins fans should know better than almost any fanbase the difference between flash and substance, and it sure seems like the criticism of this club is for lack of flash regardless of substance. Bad optics, not bad performance.

I don't really feel like they need to lock into one thing or another. Gotta have some feel for the series, the goalies, the team, and then go with what you think gives you the best chance in the game in front of you. Don't have to decide on the game 4 starter until the deadline to submit the game 4 roster. Loosely, though, I'd plan to rotate, and I might start with Swayman. Both goalies have been the victim of weird goals lately - the opener against Florida on Linus, the triple doink Guentzel goal in this game - and if they really are locked into moving Linus to reallocate his salary elsewhere, I give Sway the nod and the first chance to show that he's got the playoffs figured out. I wouldn't lock into a rotation. I would give serious thought to giving a guy a back to back start if he gets a shutout (unless it's one of those 17 shot, no high danger chances shutouts where it's more of a team achievement than usual) or if he's first star lights-out and would have had a shutout except for something you'd never expect a goalie to save - a perfectly executed 2 on 0 for example. I say "serious thought" because if you don't rotate on schedule, it could be a full week before the other guy gets the net again, so you have take that into consideration. And if a guy is lights out, shutout master in two straight games, now maybe you're ditching the rotation unless there's a disaster because you can't really ask the other guy to come back after nearly two weeks like nothing happened. I would look at the whole series on balance before choosing a game 7 starter. If it's game 7 and one goalie is 0-3 and the other is 3-0, I'm starting the 3-0 guy regardless of the rotation. That could have the rotation evolve into the MoogFuhr. Maybe the guy who was hot was really just dominating a specific opponent, or he cools off after sweeping a team. Generally, I think you have to make the decisions based on how you get the most of your goaltending advantage and forget all the crap about how a positive could be a negative.

The Bruins 1C is different than many other team’s such as Tampa because of the defensive commitment and know how needed. Zacha has shown he can fulfill the role though I think it’s fair to see just how much and how long he’ll do so in the playoffs. Coyle I’m less sure off but admittedly based less on analysis - just feeling/memory. See how he does come the playoffs. Regarding goal, the Bruins now have something of a reverse auction for #1 goalie going forward. Linus likes it here so may give a team friendly extension putting Sway in play. The better Sway plays the more his future could be elsewhere if he gets a juicy return in a trade (my Draisatl fantasy). He should emulate Linus and Staighten up and fly right. This all could speak to starting the Swaybar to boost his confidence/value. But he needs to finish the season well, right now he’s perhaps the softest guy out there (other than I don’t want to get injured avoid all contact Jake).

Coyle Zacha 114 points this year. Bergy Krejci 114 points last year. K book brought these stupid numbers up a while ago. Failed to mention that they had 102 points last year , their plus minus was 55 last year and just 13 this year. B and K was +58 last year. So these 2 shitless C have not replaced those of last year just more points than last year and obviously more goals against than last year. We still need 2 fucking c a RW and a lw And this year...who are the two centers behind Coyle and Zacha that are making up the 102pts from C&Z last year? Frederick, Geekie, Poitras, Boqvist, Beecher and Lauko have 118pts COMBINED...that's the problem - B&K move out, C&Z move up and the kids are trying to fill in down in the order.

If the puck is ever on the stick above the crossbar it should be whistled for high sticking I believe it is...as it is reviewed. That would be an interesting scenario...the Michigan occurs (like Tuesday) but no one sees it - except Trawna War Room and they send the order to sound the horn. But let's say they see that it is over the cross bar at some point. Do they still order that the officials sound the horn and then it is up to the coach to challenge? I guess they're just ruling if the puck entered the net in the review process. Anyway, I am on board for banning it - the stick should be considered an extension of the arm and you can't carry the puck on your elbow around the net and drop it at your feet and nudge it into the net... Can you?

Goalie Bob will have a talk with him.

I'd rather they try it & if it doesn't work? Well then now we know. There won't be any hindsight bullshit afterwards like there was in 04 against the Canadians. Not giving Potvin a start once Razor's game started going to shit in game 5. Felix USUALLY played his best hockey in the playoffs & I wish Sully would've given him a shot to finish the Scabs off! Same thing with Rask in 2010 & leaving your Vezina Trophy winner on the bench. I would've given Timmy game 6 & went back to Rask for game 7 if Thomas faltered. We weren't expecting a cup this year. Every series win imo is a bonus. Unless one of the them goes on a huge heater & is stopping BB's. I want them to at least give the rotation a shot & we can all say. "Ok the B's tried it & it failed!" NEXT!

Can you? I don't know about "extension of your arm" but I think the rationale for why you can't do it is sort of what I was getting at. You can't skate around with the puck on your shoulder or the top of your helmet because your opponents have to be able to play the puck safely with their sticks. It would be Trouba on Frederic five times a game. The trick is that you have to be careful about how you prohibit it if you did because the wrong language would affect plays we don't want to get rid of like high tips that aren't high sticking, or being able to get the leverage on a puck to roof it in tight which could look like "carrying" if they start breaking it down frame by frame.

Well...Zacha is a bit of comparables buster because he played wing more than C when both DK and PB were healthy. And I don't know that I'd say it's a PROBLEM if they scored less this year because last year was an all-in year and some of last year's numbers were inflated by having guys like Hall and Foligno. Last year's team scored over 300 goals, second in the league. And in the offseason, I know I flagged that had such an enormous positive goal differential at +128 that even if they didn't replace any of the goals from Bergeron, Krejci, Hall and Foligno all leaving for nothing, they'd still be +54 and that would have been tied for 6th overall. Let's try this - see what happens...and yes, I know that these lines weren't stable all year or even much of it. BLiH - 109 goals, 129 assists, 238 points. DK's line (w/Zacha and Hall) - 149 points. Coyle-Freddy-JDB - 126 points. Nosek-Foligno-Greer - 54 points. Coyle-Marchand-DeBrusk - 123 points Zacha-Pastrnak-JVR - 201 points Geekie-Freddy-Heiney - 112 4th liners - 40 (I tried to make the games played roughly equal to the guys I cited above). So you lose 37 points from the top line, 26 from line 2, 14 from line 3 and 14 from line 4 with a handful of games left. Total of 91 points gone. But hard to judge comparably because Hall and Bertuzzi and playing Zacha on the wing is a much deeper and more skilled lineup on the wings. It's almost more impressive to have the same number of points as 37 and 46 playing with only one of the two wings those guys had. Almost. Not really. Coyle was the 3C last year, and playing as a 3C he had 45 points. Geekie is the main 3C and he's got 38 with a few games to go. Not bad. He hasn't been playing with Taylor Hall and Pavel Zacha all year. So at C, the top 3 C this year are performing on par with the top 3 C last year despite swapping out Hall, Bertuzzi, Foligno and moving Zacha to C and swapping in Heinen and JVR, and sometimes Geekie when Pooter was healthy. Sometimes Boqvist. A veteran playing on a minimum deal, a PTO, and young veteran on a two way contract, and Geekie, who you hoped would grow as a player. If you base it solely on year over year comparison, the Bruins need wingers, not centres. It might be a fun thought experiment to ask how much better they'd be in terms of points in the standings with MacKinnon or McDavid but they have to play with the existing wingers.

Question about the "Michigan." We know players can't carry the puck in their gloves and skate. They have to drop the puck once it's in their glove because the implication is the puck should be on the ice when controlled by a player, other than on shots, passes, for goalies...the obvious exceptions. In other words, without being explicitly stated (as far as I know), you can not and should not take control of the puck off the ice and proceed with a play, right? I get the entertainment value of the move. It's as flashy as it is unorthodox. Isn't it taking possession of the puck off the ice and proceeding "forward" in a play but instead of using a glove, players use their sticks? If I were a goalie, I'd be like "How the fuck do I defend this now?" If I'm in goal, I have to maintain my positioning and not give the guy behind me any openings. Maybe the defensive positioning of my team could help me but on a powerplay, the strategy for the other club could be to get the puck to the guy behind the net. nite? kel? You're both goalies. How would you stop this move? Anybody else, please weigh in. 1st my thought on the move itself. I watch hockey to be entertained & see skill! That's a sick skill to have & I have no issue with it! Providing the player isn't doing it in a 7-0 route. NOW! As a goalie I HATE IT! I had it done to me, but I got smacked pretty hard in the skull with the stick being swung around. IMO IF you're supposed to have control of your stick & you smack a player swinging it shouldn't that be a penalty? Regardless of whether you have control of the puck or not! I think the rule for this needs to be tweaked. "If you smack the goalie or any other player with your stick be4 the puck enters to net in the head area it's no goal & a slashing penalty is warranted." Last night's goal was done PERFECTLY! As far as defending it as a goalie? This is where being low when the player is behind the net is a disadvantage. I think this move tried on a hybrid like Brodeur, or a standup goalie like Kirk McLean was this move wouldn't work as well, because your whole body is up against the post in a standup position. The player would have to try reaching the puck all the way around you to possibly catch the far side. That would be very hard to do as the further away you move your stick from your body the less control you have. Some goalies like MAF have trained themselves to be up snug against the post while still playing low while the player is behind the net. But, it's difficult to know when exactly the player is going to try it. The goalie is at such a disadvantage because he's not able to turn enough to see what exactly is going behind him. Is he gonna pass it, go for a wraparound, try a Michigan, or pull a 93' Gilmore move against Joseph, or a 2011 Marchand on Lulu where they do a 180. I'm thinking in terms of how much of the net a standup style removes from the Michigan. If the goaltender hugs the post and forces a wrap around attempt, this has to make the shot tougher to do. In that situation, where are your eyes looking? Are you watching your defensemen and their positioning? Are you slightly turning your head and trying to catch the guy behind your net out of the corner of your eye because you're right, I can't see you turning your head completely around to face him.

With the armour goalies use nowadays they should be able to defend against the Michigan…. As silly to want to outlaw the slick move as it would be to disallow the slap shot…. Too bad the B’S don’t have a guy capable of pulling it off…. Watch some goaltender somewhere install side view mirrors on his helmet to catch which direction the move is coming from. I don't see their equipment as having anything to do with defending the move. They can't stop what they can't see. If they have an incling of which side the move is coming from then, as nite suggested, they could not go into a crouch giving up the upper half of the net but instead stand up and hug the post side of the attempt forcing a wrap around reach bigger than the ones Chad Johnson used to let in sometimes.

What if the B's start Ullmark Game #1 and he gets a SO, you go with Swayman Game #2? No way, Ullmark starts the next one and even if he gets the win in game 2 Swayman gets the start on the road. If Swayman loses Game #3, back to Leenus.

Look, Roadhouse was having a better season than Blankey, and when there was a rumor that Sway would sign for 7 mil a year for a long period, people were trying to make sure Ullmark got traded and Sway was #1....that's fine, but things changed and the bottom line is Sway hasn't done a fucking thing to prove he even deserves to start ANY PLAYOFF GAME...WHAT HAS HE DONE TO DESERVE A START?? I'm so sick of it's okay for Sway to fuck up, but when Ullmark does it's like some offense against humanity....just stupid. Hot goalie or better consistent goalie plays, right now that's 35. Rotation is not going to work if one sucks....also I mentioned this before, the wins are not on the goalies of late and nor are the losses...it's like the better goalie is losing more than the mediocre play of the other goalie getting wins...it's truly wacky....last game, the bad goalie did result in a loss

Swayman must be feeling the heat from his play. It's all mental for him as for most goalies. Good thing is Swayman reacted well last season after Ullmark over took him.

I am so sick of the close mindedness on this by certain posters. Teams across history that had success in the playoffs. They all make adjustments & changes for the betterment of the team. A massive part of the B's regular season success for past 3 seasons has been rotating Sway & Ully. Then when they tried to stick with one goalie for the playoffs it hasn't worked & switching them after 2 or more games hasn't either! ENOUGH! Unless one of them completely shits the bed or injured it's time to continue a game by game rotation.

Regardless outside of a complete game steal in game 1. I'm going with rotating for this run. That's even IF Sway doesn't get out of his sporadic play. He's not going to get out his funk sitting on the bench that's for fucking sure. Rotate them!
