Just finished off another bottle on Sunday. Can't keep it in the house. Dangerous stuff for sure. Do you drink it neat, on the rocks? Gotta be some great mixed drinks with this too. youtu.be/3RqqH0IGU84Neat and its born out from the OB noodle house owners in Ocean Beach San Diego. DDD did a show on it.

Well Book, I took your advise. I bought a bottle of Legent's today. A very nice taste, the sherry comes through. Intially I tasted a smoked flavor. Thanks for the advise, there were 6 bottles left in the NH State Liquour Store. $50

I enjoy all manners of whiskey, but of course in moderation. I'll never forget one day maybe 10-12 years ago, we were working outside at a friend's for a few hours on a 37f/2c degree misty/drizzly afternoon. The worst kind of weather in my opinion. Chilled to the proverbial bone. We went inside and my friend poured out a dram of Lagavulin for each of us. I took my first sip and literally exclaimed loudly "I GET IT!". I fully understood what a real Scots Whisky was invented for and why they held it so dear in their souls. As someone who, as a lad, used to drink Jack or Wild Turkey (Blech to both), it was revelatory.
I like a good bourbon when entertaining, and at band practice or a gig it is always one neat Jameson. At gigs the perfect working buzz is one (and only one) Jameson, a Guinness (one more at break) and if I'm feeling it, a single hit off the one hitter. I don't need any more than that. It's become a science.
Also BadHab, I know someone who has developed the exact same issue as you. We used to drink quite a bit but he's totally lost whatever it was that used to do the trick with whiskey. He only gets the bad after effects and hangovers without any of the shiny glow. He simply doesn't partake any more save for once in a great while. It bums him out because he loves a good whiskey. I also have a frien that hates beer (blasphemy!) but really loves a Jameson.
Edit - By all manners of whiskey I mean whiskey flavored whiskey. Anything "flavored" is a hard nope for me. No fireball, Peanut butter, Cherry, or any of that crap. My friends got me to recently try the Orange Jameson. I almost barfed. It was like putting a handful of orange tic tacs in your mouth and washing them down with a shot of whiskey. Gross.

I don't think the whisky thing is any different to what happens with THC. Or it hasn't been for me. I don't get lit up by it the way I used to, and it takes a lot for me to show any signs that I've been drinking it like it's iced tea. I have a couple of friends who have failed the standup test after trying to keep up. One of them smokes pot like they're Belmont milds. One hit off them and I'd be asleep in 5 minutes. Definitely true that if I drink enough to get a significant buzz, there will be a hangover, though. But I sometime will write for a few hours at night with a bottle on the desk and it's surprising how much disappears without much consequence the next day.

Me brother and I along with several of his Thursday eventing smoke crew* had a bottle of Cleveland Underground Bourbon. It was very good. Reading the reviews it is a nice cheaper bourbon. We had another Legent purchase recently, it was ok, not something one would associate with Suntory and JBeam but hey, we talked for several hours on everything from women to the Bruins.
*Thanks to Covid the crowd has all types of individuals from doctorates to construction owners who ordinarily go to the cigar shop. Nice conversations albeit direct and insulting at times. Good whiskey too, we polished off a bottle of Lagavulin 16 back a few months ago.

Legent was interesting once or twice but it hasn't become a regular thing for me. Partly, that's because I think they had it under-priced to build some following and then raised the ticket and it's not as much of a deal now. COVID has really killed access to interesting things around here. The only people I know who are getting to try things out of the ordinary are in whisky clubs where they subscribe to a bottle a month club or something. So I haven't had a lot to add here. Strangely, the gin selection and the tequlia options have gone the other direction. The gin is the result of a lot of craft breweries also getting into distilling and there are now dozens of small labels around here. Many of them have to carve their space against Bombay, Hendricks and Tanqueray by virtue of unusual botanicals. Sometimes, they do a decent job and you can make a different drink altogether when you make a martini with them. I haven't gone too far into the tequila selection. A friend served me the George Clooney stuff recently and it was surprisingly good. Not "elite, oh my god, tequila can taste like THAT?" good, but my expectations were set more to the Wayne Gretzky rye collection, which, like Wayne in his later years, is mostly pass first.

Just had a Fuji. I liked it. All the Japanese whiskies are pretty good, I find. Unless someone tries to pass them off as something they're not.
