I'm sure we've had whisky conversations in a particular place but could only find the tequila and beer threads here.
So...I've crossed a line. I have bought a share of a cask. A group of us jumped on a cask of Shelter Point single malt that will be aged in Ardbeg casks. They've done this before with Laphroaig casks and someone whose opinion I trust tells me it was excellent - like the big, peaty scotch but with the high end of the peat toned down a bit and the subtleties of it showing through. My share, when bottled, is 31 bottles. But I don't get them until 2030. This is the defining point of whisky as a mature man's drop. If you can't wait nearly a decade for the whisky to be ready, you're not ready for the whisky.

Not a whiskey fan actually even though Irish "whiskey" is of course considered one. O actually don't feel like JameO is a whiskey.
I am on a Screwball whiskey bender (not the bad kind). No junket on the rocks. Peanut butter as an alcohol.

I have slowly worked my way into whiskey over the years. Twenty some odd years ago in Sweden, I was visiting friends of my former Swedish brother in law. He and his wife just got back from Scotland from vacation. Anyhoo, he had Lagavulin, Talisker, Macallan, and others. He was a doctor and could afford the absorbent cost. Lagavulin at first tasted like turpentine, no I never had turpentine. I liked Talisker. I have continued to buy it regularly. Lately I have gone back to Lagavulin. My taste has changed. I generally don't like "peaty" whiskeys but they have grown on me. I do like Auchentoshem. no peaty taste and a smooth taste. Since my beer drinking days have waned I have gone more and more to Rye whiskey. Old Forester, I cannot get now in the NH liquor stores (prices are unbelievably cheap to most places). I like to taste mostly those types of whiskey for now. I still buy bourbon on your recommendation in the Mr. Peabody's "way back machine", Basil Hayden. It is a regular now. Lastly I still like my IPAs with nice company* at the bars.... we are a liberated state.

I get dibs if you die by 2030 Too slow. Ever read "Ballad of the Whiskey Robber"? About a Transylvanian/Hungarian goalie (hockey) who robs banks on the side. Or a bank robber who is a hockey goalie on the side. Can't remember which was which. But an interesting book. He got pretty loaded before every bank job.

Guys,
I'm not kidding, no joke here at all.
I've got a severe alcohol problem.
Here's the deal, all of a sudden starting about 4 months ago when I drink I don't get that buzz or glow - I just get dizzy a little, slurred speech - you know, everything about alcohol except the good part. And then the next day I have hangover symptoms if its not the good stuff, or I will get a hangover much more easily if I drink the good stuff, but much less - for example 3 of the 15% alcohol beer will give me a hangover. It seemed like the vodka and other hard liquor had these symptoms worst, then wine, then the high alcohol beer was the one that worked in a good way for me the longest, but that is now losing, too.
I don't do any other drugs but alcohol, and I certainly would never do any street drugs.
What about that cbd oil or whatever that shit is called? Altho I am super hesitant to take something like that and probably won't.
Getting a little buzz off of booze was something I really enjoyed from time to time, and it kind of sucks that I am losing that.
I can't find anything about this phenomenon the web amazingly enough.
Anybody know anything about this? Anyone ever hear of it?

Anybody know anything about this? Anyone ever hear of it? CBD won't help; it's not supposed to give you any kind of high which probably means no buzz. My experience is that it's chasing the dragon, right? Like so many stimulant/depressives, they work by stimulating the body to produce stuff that then gives you the reaction you like. Coffee triggers adreneline, right? So if your body is out of stock on what it needs to give you that buzz...no buzz. So - do a dry month or two. Or seriously cut your intake. That generally works for me if I'm not getting the good parts of drinking and only the bad.

That generally works for me if I'm not getting the good parts of drinking and only the bad. Intake has been exactly 30 drinks since April 9th, once had drinks 3 days in a row, worst consecutive drinks at once was 5, biggest gaps were 12 and 21 days of no drinking ... so I think that intake is about as slow as a humanly possible. (I'm on a health kick so I track all food/drink intake in an excel spreadsheet along with all other health data). So I guess I will try going dry for at least 3 months since the 21 days was close to a month and it didn't even register that I had not had a drink in that long. I've finally was able to find something about this on the web after a lot of searching and I see that this has happened with hard core alcoholics, sure I've done binge drinking and abused alcohol, but since becoming an adult virtually no day drinking, no missing work or anything that I would consider nearing the alcoholic level. I've got a feeling this might be permanent. Kind of a bummer since I really miss having a couple or 3 after a hard day of work enjoying the weather - or around the stove in winter, getting that nice glow. Darn, that was nice, I'm going to miss it, if it goes the way I think it might.

Darn, that was nice, I'm going to miss it, if it goes the way I think it might. Could also be a change that's not alcohol related. When I was young and my insides were pink, I skipped warm glow and went straight to sloshed for a long time. 1 beer, fine; 2 beer, fine; 3 beer, fine; 4 beer, wondering if anyone would notice if I puked in my friend's girlfriend's shoes. But that was when I had no body fat and could eat 4000 calories a day without adding any. My girlfriend's gone through something similar recently. She used to be confident enough that she'd try to keep up with me some nights - and she'd do okay, but lately she's on 4.3% beer and if she joins me for a dram or two, she done. Keeping up with me isn't a good idea.... I'm not Keith Richards or Tom Waits - nor am I an alcoholic - but when I open a bottle of whisky, it doesn't hang around too long. But yeah, your research is what I was talking about with chasing the dragon. People get to a point where the body won't give them the response anymore. Could be permanent, but I would bet if you do the 3 months, it'll come back.

Anybody know anything about this? Anyone ever hear of it? Yes, you are a pussy drinker. You can't handle your liquor (liquor? I don't even know her!) and frankly you need to go back to alcohol abuse school, binge drink heavily to reduce the slurred speech and increase the dizziness. And if you can't do that, send me what's left of your good alcohol...

So I've been exclusively a tequila nut, been to Mexico to a bunch of distilleries a couple times, the whole nine.... But my buddy brought me a whisky, Skrewball peanut butter whiskey... It's superb... Assuming you like peanut butter... I'm going to guess the whiskey lovers might sneer at it, but damn is it tasty!

All kidding aside, the range of odd flavoured stuff is intriguing. Not enough to steer me away from my usual peaty Scotch, hot n honey bourbon and slightly sweet rye for old fashioneds but….
There’s a TikTok guy who looks like his drink of choice should be shine. He takes recommendations for flavoured vodka and mountain dew all the time. It’s oddly satisfying.

There’s a TikTok guy who looks like his drink of choice should be shine. He takes recommendations for flavoured vodka and mountain dew all the time. It’s oddly satisfying. If somebody told me they were a tequila nut and their top three tequilas were patron XO, tequila rose and tanteo (sp) peach, I'd shake my head and just walk away... So Id understand if I got the same treatment completely... And probably respect you even more. But being a 100% whiskey novice and total peanut butter lover, to the point where I'm not responsible enough to actually own a jar of pb... this stuff is insanely tasty. On a side note.. Never tried the combo of booze and caffeine... Might be an interesting experiment of feeling what it's like to let the two battle it out inside you.
