From Nesn:
The Bruins are making a change on the third line, and it’s Karson Kuhlman who will try to give Boston a shot in the arm.
The B’s and New York Islanders play a pivotal Game 5 of their second-round Stanley Cup playoff series Monday night, and Kuhlman will take Jake DeBrusk’s spot on the third line. He’ll try to help Boston get back on track after a frustrating Game 4 loss Saturday night on Long Island.
It’s not a surprising move. Cassidy on Sunday offered a fairly blunt assessment of DeBrusk, Charlie Coyle and Nick Ritchie.
“Third line didn’t generate much (in Game 4) — well, they didn’t generate anything, to be honest with you. They’ve had better games.”
Now, it’s on Kuhlman to provide a spark. Speaking Monday following the Bruins’ morning skate ahead of Game 5, Cassidy pointed to Kuhlman’s high-energy brand of hockey as something the team likes and hopes he can utilize in front of the TD Garden crowd.
“Do what you do best which is get on the forecheck, he certainly create some secondary offense — he can shoot the puck,” Cassidy said when talking about what the Bruins need from Kuhlman. “(He) can get in and disrupt some of the breakouts. He does it more with his foot speed and stick than physicality but certainly capable of finishing some checks if they’re there.”

BHN DAILYBHN Daily: Trotz Accuses Boston Bruins Bergeron Of ‘Cheating’Published 12 mins ago on June 7, 2021By Joe Haggerty Patrice Bergeron BRIGHTON, Mass — Boy, did New York Islanders head coach Barry Trotz poke the bear with the Boston Bruins ahead of Monday night’s pivotal Game 5 matching vs. the Isles at TD Garden.
The isles head coach decided to go after Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron and essentially accused him of “cheating” in the face-off circle.
It’s obviously not the first time this kind of things has happened as former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock used to do something similar where he would continuously get Bergeron yanked out of the face-off circle by complaining to the NHL officials watching the playoff series. But this is the first time it’s really out in the open with Trotz openly using the word “cheating” with a player in Bergeron that’s got a hard-earned sterling reputation around the league.
“Bergy is a really good faceoff guy…one of the best. [Pageau], Brock [Nelson] and [Travis] Zajac all study what he does,” said Trotz. “The biggest thing with Bergeron, and really linesman can control this, is that he doesn’t like to get his stick down. So, he’s got to come to a stop, you know, and then you have a fair fight. He’s a veteran guy that knows how to cheat on the faceoffs.
“I’m relying on our very capable officiating crew and linesman to make sure the cheating doesn’t go on. Because he’s good at it. All the veteran guys are, he’s not the only one…trust me. But he’s very good, very capable and he’s been a top centerman [and] faceoff guy for a long time.”

Debrusk and Ritchie are so damned disappointing. At least Ritchie is a big lug.
To beat the dead horse...Watching Debrusk act all but invisible, providing nothing, while Barzal is skating like the wind, and being best player on the ice in game 4 still kills me. Sweeney will never (nor should) live that gaffe down. They just had to prove they were smarter than Central Scouting.
Oh well, at least we can pull for Senyshyn to be a decent player in Providence next year.
I really hope The Kraken take 74 out of our sight in a few weeks. Whatever "it" is, Debrusk doesn't seem to have it.

we'll see whose work with the officials pays off. Does Bergeron get kicked out or more pp for the Bruins or both or neither? Hard to say in this NHL what happens.
I would have sat Ritchie and iced DeBrusk-Coyle-Kuhlman instead

The Captain's response to Trotz was perfect. It was a crafty move by a crafty coach who's looking for any edge he can get. Probably tired of seeing the Bruins gain possession off Bergeron's faceoffs. Still won't help the Isles win most draws against him.

Every fucking opponent has to be a dick. Fuck them, Go B's! Yeah...through 4 games, the Bruins have paid $10K in fines for crosschecking a guy in the back of the skull and a pretty thorough bag-check. I'm not fluffy about it. But neither is really "classy".

He’ll try to help Boston get back on track after a frustrating Game 4 loss Saturday night on Long Island. It’s not a surprising move. He does it more with his foot speed and stick than physicality but certainly capable of finishing some checks if they’re there.” After being left out of the lineup towards the end of the regular season, DeBrusk said he was "pissed" yet the same situation has appeared again at the worst time. At that time, Cassidy said he wanted DeBrusk to get the message that they needed him to win. I thought DeBrusk was one of the Bruins' better players in Game 3 in the way he was following through on some checks, jousting for position in the slot. I'm irritated that his inconsistencies have led Cassidy to replace him and the skills we've all seen him display with a player we can only hope will be effective in his role.

I'm not down on Kuhlman. He kicks in his hustle. But friggin' DeBrusk can score. For some reason, he doesn't lock it in enough.

I'm not down on Kuhlman. He kicks in his hustle. But friggin' DeBrusk can score. For some reason, he doesn't lock it in enough. I think it comes down to Ritchie and Coyle, here. Because this is a really good point. If Kuhlman plays at his very best, he's a player who has scored 6 goals and 7 assists in 56 NHL games. We're pissed at DeBrusk because he had 5 goals and 9 assists in 41 games this year, admittedly playing some of the worst hockey of his career. So Jake's not getting it done, and we're going to replace him with a guy for whom "getting it done" is performing at a level slightly lower than the level DeBrusk was bringing. So what's the payoff other than sending JDB a message? Gotta be getting more out of Ritchie and Coyle, doesn't it? Maybe that line retrieves more dump ins and makes more plays if everyone feels confident that either the fast guy or the fat guy can get in fast enough on that Islander D and create some zone time - so they stop trying to do it all alone? Maybe it's just more willingness to use his speed to disrupt the Isles all over the ice, and they'll look for those home run chances off of turnovers that seem to be Kuhlman's speciality almost as surely as his great Chris Kelly impression when it comes to finishing them. DeBrusk is easy to take out of the mix, so he's out of the mix. Coyle kills penalties and sees some PPTOI on the 2PP; Ritchie is the biggest guy on the team in a physical series. I don't think this is so much that JDB has been terrible so much as that he hasn't been enough better than those other guys to not be the scapegoat.

He's an RFA, and based on what he produced for the Panthers, I don't think that's likely to change. I would love the Bruins to make a fat offer to Hyman if only to force the Laffs to overpay for a guy they could probably replace for half the money.
