Canada better get their heads out of their asses looking at that roster. I love Marchand and Crysby has that pedigree but they arr too old to be faces of 2026.
McDavid Mackinnon MicBedard McTavish Reinhart Stone Point Scneiffle Marner Johnston.
Makar Toews Power Theodore Pietrangelo Doughty Clarke
Nite Sizzle Kel

I'd be OK with that if he got the double chucky from the US.

Sweeney GM for Canada. First move: attempts to swap McDavid, MacKinnon and Crosby for Hanafin.

C: Mc, Mac, Point, Crosby. RW: Marner, Reinhart, Scheifele, Stone/Barzal (Barzal's in if Stone's not healthy) LW: Hyman, Verhaeghe, Marchand, Horvat Subs: Johnston, Hagel, Stamkos, RNH, Benn D: Makar, Morrissey, Dobson, Bouchard, Doughty, Theodore Subs: Toews, Ekblad, Power. G: Hill, Skinner, Thompson. Yuck. Subs: Levi, Binnington. Yuck. Kind of reminds me of 1981 when Canada rolled out Liut and Edwards in net, and Liut got shelled in the Final against Russia including a natural hatty by Shepelev. I vaguely remember that game and being crushed.

We're going to spend a lot of time talking about goalies in the next year. Canada's at a real disadvantage if you ask me, at least as of today and on paper.
US rolls out Hellabucyk, Swayman, Oettinger and Demko in some combination. Swedes roll out Linus, Markstrom, Gustavsson and Ersson. Finns go with Sauros but then have a bit of a drop to Luukkonen, Husso and Korpisalo.
US is first with a bullet there, then the Swedes, and then the Finns by virtue of maybe only needing Sauros. All of the Canada guys have things to prove to even be in the conversation, but if Skinner or Thompson take a team to the Finals, my mind might change.

My guess on a US roster:
C - Buston, Hughes, Miller, Tage RW - Keller, DeBrincat, Boeser, Kane LW - Tkachuk, Robertson, Tkachuk, Connor Spares: Nelson, Eichel, Kreider, Boldy, Gaudreau
D - Hughes, Fox, McAvoy, Skjei, Hanifin, Slavin Sparres: Sanderson, Werenski, Carlson, Trouba
Goalies as above.
I like the balance of the US group better than the Canadian group, but I like the top end better for Canada and it may come down to whether or not McDavid and MacKinnon can run rampant. I could see Trouba pushing Skjei or Hanifin out of the lineup to make the two Canadian Art Ross contenders think twice about how fast they want to be going when they crash into a wall.
Some will question Eichel as a spare, but I am thinking of him as their Joe Thornton - a guy who was always an elite NHL scorer who couldn't crack the national team lineup because he wasn't versatile enough to play a supporting role being some of the uber elite like Crosby, Sakic, and Yzerman early in his career.

US has a better defense than 2002, 2010 and 2014 combined. Best blueline I ever seen USA have, its their biggest plus. If Eichel is healthy he will play. This team also has the best center lineup offensively I have ever seen USA have. But not there best defensively at center. If Canada and the US meet, which everybody wants, it will be epic like 2010. It will probably come down to one play again. I can't predict an outcome, as confident in this US as I am, cause Canada is Canada.
