You saw in this game why the Oilers, even with all their additions will not win the Cup, Principal Skinner can't handle the pressure. Wouldn’t surprise me to see them make a push for Fleury…. Yeah, i read that somewhere as a possibility, don't think MAF will be any better personally but they should do something.

ROFFLMMFAO!! WELL DESERVED?!! Thank Fuck Skinner sucked worst than Swayman tonight! Considering the way they played earlier in the month, yeah...I'll give them credit for a few things that deserve credit. 1. They won the special teams battle and kept the Oilers off the board on the PP. That hasn't been the trend, and you'd have expected 1/3 maybe given how good that Oil PP has been. And they cashed one of their 2, which was the margin of victory in the end. 2. They got both primary and secondary scoring - Geekie, Freddy, JDB all cashing in in the same game. 3. They pushed back. Wotherspoon took it to the bigger Perry. They outhit the Oilers, won the FO% battle, and took better care of the puck. Those are good signs. 4. They didn't fold despite blowing a 3 goal lead, then a late 1 goal lead. Would have been easy to think they'd already lost when they went into OT on the PK. One of the fears based on the way they've blown leads this year is that they're fragile and when the game turns against them and they let teams back in, they can't find the will to take the reins again. They did that. Killed a 4 on 3 PP against a team clicking at 29.2% in 2024 to do it. Got the kill then got the goal. 5. We talk a lot about goalies who may give up some stinky goals, and they may not have the numbers to get the Vezina votes every year, and and and...but they make the save when the game is on the line. That save on Draisaitl on the PP in OT? That's what that means, right?

Gotta say, he's certainly not perfect but i like Wotherspoon, he at least shows some physicality and gumption. He's an option at 3rd pairing LD if Forbort departs.

Last I heard, the Oilers might NOT try to address the goaltending and instead cast their first rounder for an upgrade elsewhere - this in the context of people talking about Hanifin and Tanev suitors. Friedmann, Dreger, Johnson all with some version of this.

I really like this Brazzers kid. While not fleet afoot, he loves to get to the danger areas and create chaos in front. It is far different from the other AHLers that play the game on the outskirts. While it has been only 2 games, his addition to guys like JVR DeBrusk, Freddie, and Geekie the Bruins increase their chances with the dirty goal factor which becomes more important in the playoffs. I hope he sticks.

Agree that the Oilers biggest need is in goal because not only is Skinner a sieve but this team doesn’t know how to play defence, although they’ve improved in that area since they got rid of the chipmunk behind the bench…. Still, with the high-octane offence they possess, taking care of their own end isn’t the main objective here….

Yeah, I feel like both Ullmark and Swayman have many times made some show-stopping saves that frankly if they don't make them, the team probably has 8 more regulation losses and 10 if you include overtimes. I'd still rather have both than some of the other crap out there, a number of them backstopping good teams...Crazy how bad the goaltending is in the NHL overall, except maybe more about the skill factor and the way teams have put themselves into an advantageous shot situation. Teams are simply scoring when they want now...the 2-1 games are fewer and fewer now.

"Mason Lohrei with three assists and four blocks and a team high plus-2. He rose to the occasion" Suck on that Gold and Sweeney! Yeah...boy...[looks at Lohrei's season] sure was stupid to send the kid who went 1-0-1 and -2 averaging 17:20 min in his previous 10 NHL games to the A to work out some kinks....[looks at game sheet - 0-3-3 +2 23:32...half of it in one shift at the end of the second]. I still think the plan was to let him marinate for this reason. He looked like a much more confident player. Montgomery's pre-game interview with Beers, he said that they wanted him to be more aggressive in all phases of the game, and I think that's what we saw last night. Now let's do "all he does his win win win" +/- when Grzelcyk isn't paired with McAvoy. Minus- 2 with Carlo and Wotherspoon. Eye test says Lohrei never needed Providence. And he adds much more physically. And hits aren't the measurement. He's harder to handle in the corners than Win Win Win.

You know, you take that step back and look at how the Bruins have worked since the salary cap, and I think they've more or less had some core philosophies that haven't changed because you don't fix what ain't broke. One of those is pro scouting the minors to turn up some guys who might not be meeting their drafting team's expectations but who they think they can retrofit to a player they can use. And Wotherspoon could be one of those guys. Wotherspoon wasn't a big scoring D in the WHL, but he showed some ability and by his final year, he was close to a point/game. Leading scorer on that team was Morgan Geekie. That team in TriCity had a bunch of drafted guys. But he's a 2015 pick who plateaued as an offensive defenseman at maybe 0.45 points/game. And he's not big at 6'1 195. So you can see why the Isles finally let him walk. I have no doubt they offered him around in one of those AHL deals like the ones where the Bruins acquired Bowers for Keith Kincaid and then shipped him for Reilly Walsh (not a bad bit of business - Kincaid was a UFA signing they didn't really need in the end and Walsh is 24 yr old PMD putting up .5 points/game in Providence). Boston's not asking him to be a PMD. He's playing a relatively simple game. And the stat they seemed to like best was 127 PIM a couple of years ago in Bridgeport. I think he could be the next Cliffy, right? Same story, but Arizona (it's always worth pillaging Arizona) gave up on Cliffy. He was a 5th in 2013 who played out his NCAA eligibility. I can't recall if the Coyotes offered him a contract or not. The first guy in this line for me is Boychuk. Second rounder that Colorado wanted to be a PMD type - or a PPQB - but his defensive game was looser than Jack's grasp of the English langauge these days. They adapted him to a simple game, and 7 years later, he was able to be the player the Avs thought they drafted on Lon Guyland. But Seidenberg almost fits that bill. Philly wanted him to be an offensive player, and then Carolina and Florida...Boston focussed him on D and the O came when it came. He's underrated in terms of how many points he brought to the table in Boston. 117 points over parts of 7 seasons topping out at nearly .4 points/game in the Cup year and .38 in the Finals year. Injury curtailed his production at the end. Then there's McQuaid - the 2nd rounder Columbus let go for a 5th, then when they flipped that 5th to Dallas, watched it become Jamie Benn. In the end, Columbus gave up McQuaid, the pick that became Benn, and two other 5th rounders for the right to draft Maksim Mayorov. Ouch. There's been a bunch of fails, but the Bruins have been volume shooters in this. Between undrafted D and reclamation projects, they've tried guys like Kampfer and Bartkowski - Kampfer was a 4th from Anaheim and Bart a 7th in Florida. Combined, they've played close to 500 NHL games, but they couldn't be consistently useful in Boston. The signed PMD Jeff Penner and eventually sent him to the Wild to get Khudo. Took a shot with Oiler 5th rounder Cody Wild. Took another shot at Colorado's prospect pool with Colby Cohen. Lots of other nope in there. But all told, to get what they've pulled out of Boychuk, McQuaid, Cliffy, and even Kampfer and Bart for basically zero player/draft capital going the other way? Keep doing it.

He was not the same player his last 10 games in Boston as he was in his first 4-5 or last night. I saw a young player who was giving up way too much ice, especially on the rush, and he was getting lost in coverage as well as struggling to clear the puck in much the same way he couldn't take advantage of opportunities in that 3 minute shift at the end of the second last night. Even so, I agree that he didn't need to be sent down because he wasn't good enough to be in Boston; as I said above, I think he was sent down to reset his game and his confidence before bringing him back later in the year. Exactly what happened, but faster than I would have thought because of the Lindholm injury. I think it was in the best interest of the player and his development to play a lot more and in an environment more conducive to working things out. Like I said before, if I'm quoting DJ Khaled, it's ironic. But while we're here, what's McAvoy's +/- when paired with Lohrei? -2. With Wotherspoon? -1 With Shittencrack? -1. Why isn't McAvoy carrying all of those guys the way he apparently carries Toby? And why are we even talking about IRToby? Oh, right...because some people can't stop talking about him.

You wanna think that is a winning formula & cling on to a "one off" where they managed to actually get the extra point go right ahead! Playing catch-up, or allowing the other team to catch-up is losing hockey PERIOD! Hopefully by April they'll have gotten enough practice to learn what you don't seem to grasp!

Nope, not buying it. There are lots of categories that fluctuate over years/decades like goals, hits, fights, shots, pims, etc. but being a good teammate is NOT one of them. We've seen it multiple times in this game... Scrums for just an extra whack at a rebound or even standing next to the goalie when the puck is covered, nevermind an elbow to the goalies head.

And to your earlier point, yeah, I'm not sure it's good to be "satisfied". I'm happy they won. Am I satisfied with how they played? Did they fulfill all demands or requirements? No. Was it sufficient? Yeah, it was. They got the W. But what is sufficient on a Wednesday against the Oil isn't necessarily sufficient against the Flames on a Thursday. Teams area always looking for continuous improvement. Nothing wrong with that; but nothing wrong with celebrating a win with a few warts on it, either. In the broader scheme, I'm not going to try to find a way to ferret this one out, but it sure feels to me like there are more games where teams blow 3+ goal leads in this league in one quarter of a season than there used to be in a full year (correcting for expansion, even!). And this year, there are more 7+ goal games than I can remember since the early 90s. It's nuts. I think it's worth examining the expectations.

For sure I’ll still bitch and complain about the B’S but I’ll also give credit when it’s due…. To beat the league’s juggernaut at the moment while playing down one d-man and with Jay Sway turning in a Jekyll & Hyde performance, I think kudos were in order…. Sports is entertainment to me and if I can wake up the next morning, I’m good…. Cheers!
