He was 14, i think he has paid his price, time for him to get a second chance and see what he does with it.
Antonio Brown made racist comments to his general manager, threatened him with bodily harm and was still picked up by two teams after.

Sounds to me from his statements that Sweeney wasn't fully on board with this, there were other factors involved. It sounds to me and i'm only surmising from what i've read is Neely was also involved. You would think it must have gotten the Jacobs approval so we'll see. I think the kid will play in Providence and it will fade away much like all other controversies. I still seethe signing weird, it doesn't seem needed in a hockey sense, the P-Bruins have enough D from what i can tell. Anyway, what is will be.

This is gonna get worse for Sweeney and Neely. Yeah I dont know what they were thinking. I cant believe no one stood up and said anything. I cant believe they couldnt see what is coming from this. Tomorrow in Toronto is going to be brutal

One sport is stupid enough to blatantly not give a shit as long as a guy can catch touchdowns, so this works? Nah, not for me. And like I said, I don’t care how old he was. He has paid no price none. Zilch. He got a better contract today than he would have staying in the coyote organization. What price did he pay? What did he learn?

Antonio Brown made racist comments to his general manager, threatened him with bodily harm and was still picked up by two teams after. What price did he pay? Fuck the second chance, let someone else give it to him. This is totally fucked up every which way you look at it. TOTALLY FUCKED UP. 1) What he did at age 14 was super demented shit, that's just not normal. It wasn't ONE error in judgement, he habitually fucked with the kid. There is something wrong with this kid. I don't give a shit what anyone says, this kid has a big screw loose. Every person I know that was that fucked up at that age did not grow up to be normal, I doubt very much this is the exception. 2) A 20 year old in the USHL, sure he's lighting it up, but there about a billion and half overagers that lit up junior. There are 2 15 year olds on his team for fuck's sake. 3) The kid in front of him in scoring on his team is at BU, he's 18, he's 6-2-3-5, why not sign that kid or one of the other HUNDREDS of kids that are better, don't have character flaws, are younger and undrafted? 4) Bruins are doing great, why in the name of all things holy are they signing a controversial kid that isn't that good? 5) This is a distraction to the hottest team in the NHL. 6) When Miller was 18 in the USHL he put up numbers 48 4 12 16, nothing to write home about. 7) the family of the abused kid says he hasn't apologized to them yet. 8) Where does this kid even fit into the organization? 9) He's 5'10" 189, not impressively big. 10) Fans will be all over him like white on rice 11) From NESN article Sweeney acknowledged some of those players — who were not named — asked, “Why do this?” Yah, I have the same question. 12) This is scraping the bottom of the barrel, totally pointless and unnecessary. 13) From NESN article; Miller was scheduled to report to Providence and Sweeney said he would need to “earn the right” to play in the NHL, while also noting he would drive Miller to the airport should “anything go sideways.”
? So you sign the kid and give him that, um, endorsement? Fucked up on top of fucked up.

I'm thinking Mike Vick, how many seasons did Josh Gordon missed due to drug - related suspensions yet some team was ready to scoop him up. Joe Mixon and Kareem Hunt are both starters in the league with the Bengals and Browns, respectively right now after previously assaulting women. Greg Hardy, a star end with the Panthers, threw his girlfriend around, was let go by Carolina, was out of the league for little more than a year then signed with Dallas, no less. But Kaepernick is too much of a hot potato to sign.

Do you people understand He forced a mentally underdeveloped black kid to eat candy that he and another kid put in a public urinal and pissed on it
I will say it again, maybe you might hear it this time. He forced a mentally underdeveloped black kid to eat candy that he and another kid put in a public urinal and pissed on it
He forced a mentally underdeveloped black kid to eat candy that he and another kid put in a public urinal and pissed on it
And you think this is excusable because was 14? Do you honestly think this was simply immaturity? Do you honestly think this was anywhere near a "typical" adolescent prank?
Teenagers do wilding type shit, typically spontaneously, even more typically to impress their friends. This wasn't spontaneous, clearly it was premeditated, and most importantly it is WAY OUTSIDE the norm.
This is a defective person we're talking about, this is a lifelong psychiatrist person and if you don't see that you're blind or you are in denial of reality.
And yes, I was a bad kid at that age, daring each other into situations where someone could have died, teenage drinking and doing all sorts of criminal mischief, that's teenage wilding, this kid wasn't drunk, it was preplanned and it was NOT 'daredevil' shit. Read the backgrounds of serial killers and you see this type of shit along with animal cruelty.

That his victim happened to be black adds an unsavory element to this signing. I think it's THE scummy part of the whole thing. I still wouldn't be too chuffed if the teen he did exactly the same thing to was white or some other race but he wasn't. Rightly or wrongly, I'd likely view the incident as me thinking "What kind of idiot did Sweeney sign?" Instead, I'm contemplating some player's past seemingly racist behaviour. I don't like the stink it brings to the organization especially one that seems to be including community outreach programs. It's not a good look for the firm in terms of the long-standing standards of character the B's have established.
Over to you, Mr. O' Ree.

I don’t see a price. If the Bruins don’t sign him, then sure losing a scholarship and a chance to make living either in hockey of through education is paying a price. The Bruins signing him totally invalidates that. He just cashed a cheque for close to 100k Probably sooner than he would have if he went to college, played two years and then signed with zona. What price?

It's not a good look for the firm in terms of the long-standing standards of character the B's have established. Over to you, Mr. O' Ree. Funny, the racist part is what bothers me the least. Not because it isn't bad, but because I think a lot of racism is born out of ignorance or environment. I think it can possibly be "un-taught" if a person - especially a young person - learns the pain their words and actions cause. Maybe Mitch's granddad was in the KKK and he heard these things from a young age. And maybe you can you can teach him the pain and suffering that has been endured for centuries and maybe he says "wow, I just thought it was funny but it's really not funny at all." But making a kid eat a piss covered candy? You gotta know that's wrong inherently since you know it's gross and you wouldn't want that. You KNOW you are making a vulnerable person do something that you wouldn't want to do yourself. That makes the racist part that much worse, since it implies taking joy in the idea that someone is beneath you. And the nature of his racist comments - not the n-word, but saying "pick my cotton" further enforces something pretty ugly.

This is gonna get worse for Sweeney and Neely. I will be surprised if they don’t release him by the end of the month. I’ll be surprised if they do…. This wasn’t a spur of the moment decision and one taken even after some of the leaders on the team questioned the move when made aware of management’s plan…. B’S brass is well aware of the onslaught of criticism that’ll come with this signing and would look even sillier to let the kid go without seeing if he was worth all this trouble…. Even though I question the move, I hope it works out….

As much as I remain hard no on this because there is almost no chance I would ever cheer for this guy as a Bruin - some kind of Christmas miracle would have to happen - I am reminded that Guy Lapointe once pissed in Steve Shutt‘s can of Coke if you believe Dryden in The Game. And I have to wonder what the fuck.

Reading all this and wasn't planning on commenting much if at all, but honest question for you all... What the kid did and and the surrounding circumstances is no doubt cruel and fucked up.. But is it really that uncommon? Have any of you guys been close to anything of this sort when you were kids? Back in high school my buddy had a, party for mostly the football team and some of the older kids tricked my buddy into drinking a glass of piss. Race and mental issues were not a factor, but it was still a person tricking a person to do something nasty. Thirtyish years ago, different times, but everyone knew about it and nobody cared.
Back to my question for you all.. Have you been close to or seen stuff like this happen when you were all punk ass kids?
And yeah, I get it... I'm not underplaying the situation.. the race factor and the disabled factor add a new level of fucked up to it.
