Read his apology carefully, its insincere. He keeps trying to distance himself from the act. "it was nearly 7 years ago" - think about that phrasing, he's trying to make it sound longer ago than it really was. "What I did when I was 14". Again distancing and not fully taking responsibility. The way his parents defended him is troubling - "if your kid so much as brushes past our daughter we will press assault charges". He said he would be "doing community stuff", how fucking insincere is that? He "will use the experience as a teaching point". Makes it sound like this is happening to about 50 kids in every high school in the country He gives all the buzz words, but I see nothing that says No where in his apology statement do I see any sort of sincerity; * I was motivated by (fill in the reason here, to dominate another person, etc.) * How did he hurt the victim? What effect did this have on the victim? Having empathy for someone else is imagining what it was like to be your victim, I saw none of that. * A teaching opportunity? What better opportunity than NOW? Did he say anything about his victim? My pleasure of being signed by the Bruins is tainted by the action I took, I wish I could share some of this joy with my victim. * Show me a remorse statement that isn't just buzz words. * He could have taken this public opportunity to acknowledge his victim. * Notice how he only talks about himself in his statement, his actions and the victim are inserted as afterthoughts. * How about making amends by contributing to the welfare of his victim? Either by money or service. Says he's done community service work - no quantification of that at all. It's crystal clear to me that he's using the shrinks and whatever to learn what he has to say publicly. Show me where the remorse is, because I don't see it. In this "community stuff" - if he was doing "heavy lifting" - that is, REAL WORK to help others, we would sure as shit be hearing about it. Do you think he really wrote the apology? It was poorly written enough to make me think he did.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, speaking Saturday at the 2022 NHL Global Series in Tampere, Finland, said the League was not consulted by the Bruins before Miller was signed. He also said Miller is not eligible to play in the NHL. "What I understand and I've heard through the media anecdotally, what he did as a 14-year-old is reprehensible, unacceptable," Commissioner Bettman said. "Before the Bruins made the decision to sign him, we were not consulted. I happened to talk to Cam Neely since the time he was signed.
"He's not coming into the NHL, he's not eligible at this point to come into the NHL. I can't tell you that he'll ever be eligible to come into the NHL," Commissioner Bettman said. "If, in fact, at some point they think they want him to play in the NHL, and I'm not sure that they're anywhere close to that point, we are going to have to clear him and his eligibility and it'll be based on all the information that we get firsthand at the time.
"So the answer is they were free to sign him to play somewhere else, that's another league's issue, but nobody should think at this point he is or may ever be NHL eligible. And the Bruins understand that now."
Asked what he would need to see from Miller, Bettman said, "I would need to see a whole bunch of things and understand a lot more firsthand than I do now anecdotally."

Anyway, good on Bettman. On the other hand, why didn't the Bruins consult the league before Miller was signed?

As of two years ago, the other perp, McKie , had apologized directly to the victim and Miller never did according to the victim’s mother’s October 2020 letter to the Coyotes. It’s been reported that the mother says Miller made a direct apology (maybe via twitter) to the victim last week. Bruins management did not speak to the victim or his mother about any of this for some reason. These facts suggest a serial jerk with some kind of narcissistic disorder (ie, no ability to process the feelings of others). I wonder how he’s going to be treated in the AHL? Lastly, by the rules of society, the perp McKie deserves a second chance because he atoned for his sin (guilty of juvenile abuse and apologized to victim who forgave him). Miller never atoned except when on the brink of a payoff. This really appears to stink and the Bs diligence seems to be lacking. "I"m sorry" means absolutely nothing after an intentional action. It doesn't matter if it's two days or two decades later. Apologizing for something you meant to do doesn't fix it. Even if you really are, nothing is different.
Fuck both of these guys.
Get this chump off the team immediately.
If you're a parent, how can you allow your child to cheer for an organization that puts wins above humanity?

This must be part of the master plan to get Bergeron and Krejci to reup on the cheap next year. It really calls into question the decision making process going on. Asks players what they think, players were not too happy with the idea, fuck it sign him anyways, Bettman steps in to save their ass

Anyway, good on Bettman. On the other hand, why didn't the Bruins consult the league before Miller was signed? Well, didn’t Sweely reportedly bite on Synshyn in the first because they thought Chiarelli or another team was going to take him and so they didn’t want to wait for the second round. From the get go this has that smell to me; keep him from Tampa or somewhere else that they may have got a sense was interested. In his presser Sweeney said all the right stuff about not being sure about how this will work out but he omitted the part about the Bruins willfully not doing thorough due diligence by talking with the victim and/or his mom and now we learn not letting the league know what they were up to. Didn’t one of you Eastern Province guys say Sweeney had a reputation back home of being arrogant? This fits. After five years of underperformance he puts out a team that looks top notch and now this..

Some random thoughts on this:
I get a kick out of Bettman’s comments, what a fraud. The Bruins signed him. Was Miller suspended? Were teams notified of any disciplinary action the league handed out to Miller? No, but now he’s trying to get out in front of the backlash and be all woke. Now he’s saying the kid can’t play in the NHL and may never be allowed to? Okay Gary, you might want to let NHL teams that were talking to him on that before he signed and you would have avoided this whole mess. Bettman really dropped the ball there now he’s hung Neely and Sweeney out to dry.
Reading up on this case, and I’ve done a lot of it today,it’s clear this kids parents have money, influence and are total douchebags, no wonder their kid is a total dickhead. .
Apologies mean shit, especially from a prepared statement,if this kid is truly sorry and wants to play in the NHL I’m willing to give him a second chance, as long as he takes a sip on the straw out of the victims wheelchair bedpan.
Until then, fuck him and his cunt parents.

The NHL obviously can’t know everything it’s 30- plus franchises are up to at any given time. The onus was on the franchise (Bruins) to alert the franchiser (NHL) about what they’re doing not ask the NHL to read their minds!

Just read that the President of the AHL can refuse to admit Miller into the league. Not allow admittance of a player because they are suspended in another league.

I'm pretty much with NAS & Co on this. I was told to do much worse in the late 60's at SMU when fraternity hazing was accepted. Unlike this youngster who was at a mental disadvantage -- I was able to tell a bunch of southern D-bags to go fuck themselves.
Why the B's brass would even entertain a move like this no matter what the talent level -- is mind boggling and disgusting.

I think Kel nailed the Bettman thing. I doubt the Bruins were the only team in on this, and teams don't figure they ever need league blessing on something that doesn't explicitly say so in legaleze. These cocksuckers don't do anything, unless it's about money. And I really don't have too much of an issue with that...until they try and act out a social conscience. That's the worst kind of bullshit there is.
I also think Marchand had a common sense reply. I'm firmly in the same camp. You have to give kids another chance. That doesn't mean you just forget about things, but you give them hope...if they work hard enough and sincere enough....if they inspire others with their turnaround...great. But like Brad says..."a long way....a long process".
He's a young man now. One itty bitty little snafu, and he's fucked in my books. And that's over the next several years. If he's good enough. If he doesn't have all-star written all over him, Neely and Sweeney should have their head read for walkin into this.
I'm no bleeding heart for these types. Got a little Joe Arpaio in me. You pay your debt legally, but in many cases, the one to society is much longer and more harsh. Ain't done with words, but actions over the long haul.
If this kid doesn't have that in him, the rest of the guys on the roster will deal with it.
Finally, I don't watch hockey for tips on moral compassing, or intellectual enlightenment. Half of what we watch on TV, the music we listen to, and pretty much all the movies we see.... are from seriously fucked shitheads. Why are our panties in such a knot over the judgement of a couple jocks?
Is anyone actually surprised?

Wow. Just wow. I don't profess to be super knowledgeable on the background to this story, but do you need to be? My impression is that most or all of the players were against this. The analysis ends right there for me. "They" say everyone deserves a second chance. Do they really? There's a difference between forgiving and forgetting. Assuming arguendo the saying is true, they don't necessarily deserve their second chance with the Boston Bruins. Especially when the club is on the greatest opening season tear in the history of the very old, Original Six franchise. Jesus Christ, their best defenseman hasn't even hit the ice yet, but he's about to. The only way this works out is if this kid wins a couple of Cups, a couple of Norisses, a Conn Smythe or two, maybe a Hart AND, most importantly, multiple Humanitarian of the Year awards.
Furthermore, if Bergy is in take-it-one-year-at-a-time mode, why would he come back when management seems hell-bent on ruining what he's been building since he was not much older than this kid at the time of his offenses? I know we love Z; Bergy has been here longer.
If I were the Bruins biggest rival, I would now sign this kid's victim to an honorary contract, give him season's tix, and have him drop the puck every time the Bs come to town. Why do this now? Why?
Having said all that, I do love the kid's two Christmas albums.
