I want to apologize, unreservedly, to the following people: T. Rask and Cassidy. First for Rask, look the guy is one of the greatest goalies in B's history, it's very hard to win the Cup, and while he gave up some rough goals at the worst times in 13 (when he was unbelievable until the final minute of game 6 Cup Finals) and in 10 when he couldn't hold a 3-0 lead in game 7....what happened tonight was a testament to why goaltending wins games...Tim Thomas is safe from idiots who still attack him. He had his bad games and then he would turn right around and throw shutouts when it counted. This game was the Rogie Vachon/Marco Baron give up 9 goals era type game. Ullmark couldn't stop a beach ball, and his defense in front of him and the careless play in front of him compounded his complete loss of confidence.
I apologize to Cassidy because Monty has placed too much trust in playing 3 pairs and not shortening the bench, not removing his Vezina goalie for a guy who has been pretty awesome himself this season (Sway), and not relying on more minutes from guys who produce and kind of just forgetting 13 and 71 were part of the team tonight. Way too much 28/75...anyone can tell they were geting beat to every puck, it was embarrassing to watch. So yeah, I apologize to Bruce because reality is defense does win. Offense is great, it's fun to watch, but without defense you lose games like this.
So my apologies to Rask and Brucey.
You were both great at your jobs and I apologize for ever questioning either of you.

Last thing...when Ullmark gets the Vezina and Monty Coach of the Year...it will be hollow and tough I think to even watch.

My apology to Tkacuk as well. He is the type of player who advances in NHL playoffs....look at Edmonton, McDavid, Draisitl, etc....when push came to shove it's Pietrangelo that advances...guys like him. B's don't have guys like those 2...but that shouldn't have mattered. Boston, Edmonton, Toronto should be in final 4, not golfing. Too much talent to not do better. So it's not just the B's.

Dick "Dickie" Berg 1964-65 St. Paul Steers (USHL) - Statistics unavailable (that we know of...). Rickie Berg 2003-04 Sundsvall HF (Swe-1) - 1 GP, 0-0-0 even.

I think a lot of this, for me, comes back to "Too much talent to not do better." I think that's the equivalent of saying "sounds good on paper." Sports is all about results, not expectations based on "talent." The greasy goal that requires 0 talent but a lot of welts, bruises and dentistry counts the same as a McDavid highlight reel goal. Hockey has always been at least 50% will. Long before Mike Tyson said everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face, that principle has been deeply embedded in this game's core. It's great that you have crazy puckhandling skills and a rocket one-timer and can skate like the wind, but if you try to stickhandle around me, I'm going to cause you pain; if you try to blow by me, I'm going to cause you pain. If you try to rip that one-timer, I'm going to eat some pain so that your skill is nothing because that shot will never get to the net. Still want to show me how great your talent is? No? Stopping players with crazy video game talent is often will first, skill second in this way. And it's part of what makes this game interesting for anything more than gambling. I like pretty goals, but part of their beauty is their rarity. They're like diamonds. They should hard, costly, and they tank in value when you change the rules to manufacture them. Same sort of rule for why I put a lot of emphasis on scoring ES goals. If you can only score when the price to be paid is lowered, you have a will deficit. Florida went with Tkachuk because, to quote Bruce, they needed more pricks. They got Bennett because he's a prick. They got Tkachuk because he's a prick. Those two pricks came from a Calgary team that won one round in their time there, so it wasn't "proven playoff performance" that they were chasing. It was will. Will to cause the pain that slows talent and will to take the pain to use their skills despite what the opponent does. There wasn't nearly enough of that from the Bruins, none of it from the Laffs, and after the Oil's big two, no one with either the talent or the will to counter the Knights. They should be golfing. Also, Pietrangelo was, for a lot of years, excluded from conversations about the Norris because he was too...nice. He was Brandon Carlo with more offense. So much of this is also "you are what your record says you are." Jordan Martinook tied Connor McDavid in scoring this round. Martinook was +5 to McDavid's even, though, with 8 ES points to McDavid's 3, zero PPP and 2 short handed. Marchessault, Eberle, Gourde and Domi have more points than Draisaitl in the second round. Jesperi Kostkonummies was a point/game player over 5 against the Devils. Those guys don't have the talent to score like McDavid consistently over 82, but they are capable of grabbing the moment and running with it...and here we are.

The whole thing with Florida started when Papa Tkachuk called out the Panthers for being soft in January. Bennett was a gamechanger in the B's series.

To take bookboy's thinking, can we then assume stevegm is a contradicting ass because he criticizes any opinion on any subject? Is he what he is? Is OC, a fake narcissist or just having fun, is that who he is? Is he defined by his Fantasy Trophy? Am I a choker because my Fantasy team can't be a plus? Am I who I am? book, are you are what you are because you didn't draft everyone's #1 pick in Rantanen? You are what you are? Does that mean you're an idiot? I mean, you are what you are, right?

Yes you do, I believe your signature car icon is pictured just above the definition of contradict in the Oxford Dictionary. Not only are you the poster child for contradictions, it is probably a good idea to fanboard-legally change your name to "contradictgm."....If Montgomery fell off the wagon, I wouldn't blame him. I'm hoping he doesn't go down that road, but you never know when it comes to dealing with Boston media and stress.

Ironic that Cassidy and Vegas are still going and could very well win the Cup. If he wins the Cup, it will make the Montgomery/B's collapse debacle turn into "why did we let Cassidy go!"...'19 Cup finalist, so it's not like Butch hasn't been there before.

I’m rooting for Butch also but it was time to go…. When a highly respected player like Bergy doesn’t have your back anymore (according to reports) it speaks volumes…. Hope Butch wins the cup…. Still, it won’t show that the B’S made a mistake in my eyes….
