B's either will trade Ullmark or Swayman...I can't see them holding on to both for the salary the 2 have right now. But who knows with the B's and how they look at it. No reason to trade either this season or next season. How many organizations have two goalies, the caliber of Ullmark and Swayman, under $9M AAV ? If one goes out I want a #1C coming back to Boston. If Winnipeg wants one of the goalies for Sheifele. I'm not giving up Lohrei with Swayman/Ullmark. Nor am I giving up Carlo with a goalie.

If the B's plan was to keep Sway over Ullmark, then he would have been signed for 2 years...that's how I see it. Why? If they trade Swayman it's because they like Ulmark better, Jerry gets a better return, or both. I don't see the contract length as relevant at all. What I see, is getting a stronger negotiation position and better age for a long-term deal. Roadhouse will be 25 at the expiration of this deal. He will have 2 years left of RFA status. An 8-year term at that stage would include those two years, giving Boston an extra edge in negotiations (rather than 1 year leading into UFA). Put differently, if Jerry doesn't like his next offer, he's still stuck with BOS for 2 years rather than electing arbitration and riding off to greener pastures as UFA, so if he wants a deal that's big and long it will be with Donnie or risk something bad happening over a two year period. An 8-year deal would also then bring him to 33 rather than 34, reducing the number of risky 30+ years. The same is true of lesser term offers, signing a long deal next year is in Jerry's prime, whatever the term is.
