I thought he was like Sominex. Put me to sleep. I don’t think his voice would have changed even if Sophia went on the ice and stripped naked. Dude has NO pulse! Speaking of Sophia, they should let her call a game just to see NAS’s head explode and come on here to post about it. Bring back Milbury, say bye-bye to Brick (look good, but it's time for a new look period), and bring in a quality vet PBP...Milbury would be refreshing to me.

Jack has been in a funk with his pvp calls for the past 3-4 seasons! I don't know what happened, but he started talking about some out of the blue subject & he misses calls on the ice by about 3 seconds! If he would just stop trying to come up with stories & concentrate on what's actually happening on the ice maybe he could be the old Jack! But right now he sounds just as messed up as how messed up the Bruins look.

I have no issue with Brick! He's usually bang on the money on his assessment! Talks the right amount & isn't as big a homer as Turk was! He's not overbearing with his bias! I find that the fact he works with Jack he gets the "homer" tag attached to him unfairly. Jack is overtop most of the time.

If I was NESN I'd see what Dave Goucher's contract situation is. I always liked Sean McDonough too. He's good, one of those rare ones who has done NHL, NBA, NFL, college football, hockey and basketball.

I find that the fact he works with Jack he gets the "homer" tag attached to him unfairly. Jack is overtop most of the time. Brisk is really good at explaining things and is absolutely not a homer, far from it. Brickley is a very good colorman...not my point...he gets stale unless he is with a more engaged, veteran PBP guy...Faust and him together = boring. All I'm saying is you either have a dynamic colorman (hence my Milbury reference if only to call out when the B's suck, or maybe even just to add some humor--he might be over the top himself, but he always was entertaining and oh yeah--like Cherry--tells it like it is..none of this worrying about what the NHL/B's network politically correct people think) or your PBP guy must complement a more reserved guy like Brick. This is about the broadcast not about anyone's abilities. They made an excuse to get rid of Faust for Kings local TV--it was guised as budget cuts but they could have just as easily not gone with long-time radio voice Nick Nickson--but Nickson is 10x the announcer Faust is and he's been doing it for a long, long time..first side by side with the great Bob Miller (who never did national TV work..all-time shame that he did not)...Again, after not hearing Faust for a while, then all of a sudden I heard the things that bothered me about him before when I do watch some Kings games. One reason why Goucher and former B Shane Hnidy work well is Shane has a great sense of humor and Goucher is an exciting announcer who helps the broadcast with his PBP work. That's what you strive for. Bob Beers I don't get to hear him much, but he sounds like a great color guy on Sirius Radio games. Brick is good, but even his act gets "old" after a while. If he says "on first blush" one more time I'll throw a brick at TV. Just for example.

Milbury is like leftover turkey, there's only so many ways you can prepare it and then you get really tired of it. Completely disagree. He really made the NBC broadcasts...he said crazy things, but a lot of funny things too...I like that...Eddie O is safe...Keith Jones is safe (strangely better wry sense of humor, but never did it enough)...Biss is fun for me on TBS studio because he has a sense of humor and has no problem having fun with Gretzky--who really is an outstanding analyst and should be...he might sound "boring" but he isn't...he is fantastic add saying things that only a great hockey player would--he understands the nuances of the game, what worked, what doesn't work, talks about how 2 on 1s and the separation--why some fall apart--and he has a sense of humor--brought out by Bissonette a lot. I like being entertained, not just same old, same old and being informed...you can do both with humor.

I think it really depends on what style you like. I don't think he's much of an entertainer, but he's prepared, accurate, keeps up with the play, and occasionally witty/funny. Very different than Jack. But I like announcers to be in the background and more subtle than attention-grabbing. I like McDonough's calm, professional style to balance out Brick's long run-on sentences and choppy spoken grammar.

My only issue with Brickley is when he starts complaining about the refs. I find that is the lowest form of colour commentary. The Ottawa radio guys are the worst.

The worst thing I've noticed about Jack this year are the non-verbal grunts and noises he makes when his mouth can't keep up with his excitement and emotional reaction to things.
When there's a big hit or a quick goal now, you get this kinda "...humph, ogh! errr...McAvoy. open ice hiiii...the shoulder to...er...Strome."
The words just won't come, and you get these gutteral noises instead, while Jack's brain is scrambling to try to assemble things correctly, mouth agape.

I love some of the old baseball calls where you hear the ball hit the bat and the crowd and then all that's required from the PbP guy is 'can if corn'. Hard to say less with hockey PBP, but I'd love someone giving it a try.

Always hated the call by Dick Stockton on 75 WS Fisk's HR on NBC....*if it's fair...home run*....yawn...yes, sometimes it's great to let the fans call it...or go nuts, but still have to say something that resonates the situation...Michaels did it a lot in big moments...you still have to be better than just "talk as little as possible."

That's why it made sense when people were saying something about his health & maybe his meds were interfering with his calling of the game. He used to be on the ball & followed the play up the ice. His call in game 6 in the 08' opening round against the Habs! The Sturm goal for instance! His call was epic! "This building is vibrating!" Those were fucking amazing calls! Now, he's so far behind & stumbles to find words! It takes away from the excitement of the fucking goal now!
