Figured I'd start a new thread on this. I'll start out on this one.
March, 21/91- Ron Tuggnut sets a modern day record in making 70 saves with the Nords against the B's which ended in a 3-3 tie. Ray Bourque sets a record himself with 19 shots on goal. Tuggnut made 12 saves in the 5 minute overtime alone. His last save was one being off a point black in the slot labelled top shelf slapper by Bourque which Tugger snags with this glove. You can see Neely saying something to him right after the buzzer sounded. A reporter asks Cam what he said to him.. Cam said. " I told him to take a f@#&king BOW!"
March, 21/17- For the 1st time in NHL history the Boston Bruins become the only team to get beat in back to back games by goalie's who has the same last name, but play on 2 separate teams. Fredric Andersen of the Toronto Maple Leafs & Craig Anderson of the Ottawa Senators.

March 22, 1996 – Sharks rookie Jan Caloun scored a goal on his fourth career shot in a 3-2 win at Calgary. He also scored on his first, second, and third career shots. Yep, Caloun went four-for-four on his first four attempts, a shooting percentage of 100 percent; an NHL record. He’d finally miss his first shot later in the game, a turning point in his career thus beginning a downward spiral that he couldn’t overcome. He scored eight goals in his first NHL season in just eleven games. But that was it. He played in 24 NHL games (8-6-14)
March 22, 1964 – In a 4-3 Chicago win at Boston, Bruins goalie Ed Johnston became the last goalie in NHL history to play every minute of every game for an entire season! Sheesh, NHL goalies are babied so much today. Wait, I just saw his stats, and let me retract that previous statement. Johnston finished the season with a 3.01 GAA and a 18-40-12 record.

March 22, 1989 - Buffalo Sabres goaltender Cliff Malarchuk suffers a cut to his neck during a game against the St. Louis Blues. A Blues player crashed into the net and his skate sliced the goaltenders neck, requiring Malarchuk to get 300 stitches to repair the wound. He was back in the Sabres net 6 days later.

I have to say, I pointed out that they were playing two goalies back to back on separate teams with the same last name. I did wonder if it counted as they spell it differently though.

March,23/72 Bruins goalie Gerry Cheevers extends his NHL-record unbeaten streak to 31 games. He would go on to extend the record to 32 games. Then during the 82-83 season Bruins goalie Pete Peeters gets to 31 games himself, only losing to the Sabers when he went to tie the record. Peeters also owns the # 3 spot having gone unbeaten in 28 straight for the Flyers during their 35 game unbeaten streak in 1980
1994 The Great One breaks the 801 mark set by Mr. Hockey. On a nice pass across from Marty Mcsorley to beat Kirk McLean. The game was stopped for about 15 minutes to celebrate in what is Wayne's biggest accomplishment as far as individual records go as he did broke it in 15 seasons & in half the # of games played in comparison to Gordie.

March,24/78 Phil Esposito sets a record with his 29th NHL hat trick when his New York Rangers defeat the Washington Capitals 11-4. Esposito, who also has an assist, passes the mark set by his former linemate, Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks.
1982: Rick Vaive becomes the first 50-goal scorer in Toronto Maple Leafs history. Goal No. 50 comes in a 4-3 win against the St. Louis Blues at Maple Leaf Gardens. Amazing considering all the big names that played in a Leaf uni that Rick was the 1st one to reach this milestone.
1992: Mario Lemieux scores his 40th goal of the season and the 1,000th point of his NHL career in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 4-3 loss to the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Lemieux is the 36th player to reach 1,000 points. He does it in 513 games, faster than everyone in NHL history except Wayne Gretzky (424 games).
In the same game, linemate Kevin Stevens scores his 50th goal, becoming the first player in NHL history with 50 goals and 200 penalty minutes. Too bad Stevens turned out to be such a douche'. He was a decent hockey player for awhile.

March,25/72 Despite allowing five goals, Boston goaltender Gerry Cheevers extends his personal unbeaten streak to 32 games (24-0-8). The record still stands today--Pete Peters holds the #2 & 3 spot-- 31 in 83' & 28 in 80'.
1995: Scotty Bowman becomes the first coach in NHL history with 900 career victories when the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 at Pacific Coliseum. The win gives Bowman an NHL record of 900-417-236.

March 26
1980: Tony Esposito of the Chicago Blackhawks becomes the first goaltender in NHL history with eight 30-win seasons.
Esposito's milestone victory comes in a 7-2 road win against the Quebec Nordiques, the Blackhawks' first win in Quebec. It also comes 10 years to the day after Esposito breaks Harry Lumley's 16-year-old "modern" record with his 14th shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory against the Detroit Red Wings.
For all you American's. 1986: Minnesota North Stars' center Neal Broten becomes the first U.S.-born player to score 100 points in a season. He reaches the milestone with two assists in a 6-1 road victory against the Maple Leafs.

March, 27 1974: The Boston Bruins become the first team in NHL history to win 50 or more games in four straight seasons when they defeat the Rangers 3-2 at Madison Square Garden.
1980: Boston's Ray Bourque sets an NHL record for rookie defensemen with his 61st point of the season in a 7-1 win against the St. Louis Blues at Boston Garden. The record will be broken the following season when Larry Murphy scores 76 points for the Los Angeles Kings.
2002: Phil Housley of the Chicago Blackhawks becomes the fourth defenseman (and first U.S.-born player) in NHL history to get 1,200 career points. Housley scores the game-winning goal in Chicago's 4-1 win against the Nashville Predators at United Center.

1980: Don Cherry gets his 250th and final NHL coaching victory and Bill McKenzie earns his second and final career shutout when the Colorado Rockies defeat the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 5-0. Cherry is 231-105-64 in five seasons with the Bruins but goes 19-48-13 in his only season with the Rockies.

March, 29 1981: Wayne Gretzky breaks Phil Esposito's NHL record for most points in a season with three assists in the Edmonton Oilers' 5-2 victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Civic Arena.
Gretzky assists on Mark Messier's second-period goal and sets up third-period goals by Brett Callighen and Jari Kurri, moving him past Esposito's record of 152 points set in 1970-71.
Exactly 18 years later, Gretzky scores the 894th and final regular-season goal of his NHL career for the New York Rangers in a 3-1 victory against the New York Islanders. It's the 1,072nd goal of his career (regular season and playoffs, NHL and WHA), surpassing Gordie Howe as the leading scorer in pro hockey history.

March, 30 1976: Center Jean Ratelle reaches the 100-point mark when he scores a goal and has two assists for the Boston Bruins in a 4-4 tie against the Buffalo Sabres at Boston Garden. Ratelle, acquired from the New York Rangers on Nov. 7, 1974, becomes the first NHL player to earn with 100 points while playing for two teams in the same season.
1991: Guy Lafleur scores his final NHL goal, the 560th of his career, in the Nordiques' 4-3 loss to the Canadiens at the Forum. Of Lafleur's 560 goals, 518 come as a member of the Canadiens before he retires in 1984 only to return to the NHL four years later.

1975: A young Nite waddles around on the ice about 50 feet away from 9 kids chasing the puck. The coach knows that young Nite is just too fat to follow the other kids. He's been playing for 6 months and he's not getting any closer to the puck. But, he also knows that young Nite is crazy about hockey. And then, the coach yells out something that will change the hockey scene in Miramichi for the next 25 years. "Hey kid, try to waddle your fat ass to that net over there and we'll shoot some pucks at you."

April 1 2004: The Boston Bruins become the first team in NHL history to play 30 overtime games in one regular season. OT game No. 30 is a 3-3 tie against the Washington Capitals at TD Garden.
1978: Mike Bossy of the New York Islanders becomes the first NHL rookie to score 50 goals in a season. Bossy scores No. 50 at 11:52 of the third period, then gets No. 51 with five seconds to play, giving the Islanders a 3-2 victory against the Washington Capitals at Nassau Coliseum.
Bossy goes on to score 60 or more goals five times during his career, and his nine consecutive 50-goal seasons are still an NHL record. The Montreal native wins four Stanley Cup championships with the Islanders during his 10-season career, finishing with 573 regular-season goals and 85 more in the playoffs. He retires at age 30 because of back problems.
"A lot of times, players look up at the clock and say to themselves, 'Well, it's too late to score,'" Islanders general manager Bill Torrey said. "It was never, ever too late for Mike Bossy to score."
Without a doubt the purest sniper I ever saw. Needed no time & rarely needed a lot of space when it came to finding the smallest of holes on the goalie.

April,2 1986: Paul Coffey ties and then breaks Bobby Orr's NHL single-season record for goals by a defenseman by scoring twice in the Edmonton Oilers 8-4 victory against the Vancouver Canucks at Northlands Coliseum.
Coffey ties Orr's mark of 46 goals, set in 1974-75, by scoring an unassisted goal late in the first period, then gets No. 47 by beating Wendell Young 2:44 into the second period. He scores a power-play goal against the Calgary Flames two days later and finishes the season with 48 goals, still an NHL record.
There's 2 things I remember vividly about Coffey. This record he broke & the time he shocked the hockey world with his best defensive play in what he said in his career in the semi's against the Soviets in the 84' Canada Cup in OT & then assist on the gw by Bossy! There's few that matched this guys skating ability.

2004: Brad Fast makes the only NHL game of his career one to remember. Not only does the 24-year-old Carolina Hurricanes defenseman score a goal, he gets what proves to be the last game-tying goal in NHL history. Fast scores at 17:34 of the third period to give the Hurricanes a 6-6 tie with the Florida Panthers at Office Depot Center. Fast, recalled from Lowell of the American Hockey League for Carolina's season finale, takes a pass from Rod Brind'Amour and shoots it past Florida goaltender Roberto Luongo to get the Hurricanes even after they've blown a 4-0 lead. With the adoption of the shootout after the 2004-05 season is cancelled by a lockout, Fast's goal stands as the last tying goal in NHL history.
2003: Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Marc Denis sets a single-season record for minutes played in a 5-5 tie against the visiting Red Wings. Denis finishes the game with 4,451 minutes, surpassing the mark of 4,443 set by Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils in 1995-96. He finishes the season having played 4,510:55 but Brodeur regains the record in 2003-04 and establishes the current record of 4,696:33 in 2006-07.

1991: Rookie Jaromir Jagr scores at 8:52 of overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 5-4 win against the New Jersey Devils in Game 2 of the Patrick Division Semifinals. It is Jagr's first of 78 playoff goals.

April, 7 1982: The Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers set a single-game Stanley Cup Playoff record by combining for 18 goals. The Kings outscore the Oilers 10-8 at Northlands Coliseum in Game 1 of the Smythe Division Semifinals. Fifteen players score at least one goal; Kings forward Charlie Simmer breaks an 8-8 tie with 5:04 left in the third period. Those were the days!!
2002: Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames scores twice to become the first (and only) 50-goal scorer of the 2001-02 season. Iginla reaches the 50-goal plateau for the first time in his NHL career, but the Flames lose 3-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center.
