It's a play on words. I know who the posters are here that are pieces of work. Miz and Danny to name a few. lol This thread is about what you do for a living. What kind of work you do and whether you love it or hate it. A place to rant and piss and moan about work and the assholes you work with.
I'll start. I have a Masters degree in Computer Science and have worked in the IT field my whole career. Currently, I am a software engineer for the DoD and the Defense Health Agency. I have worked on contracts with the Army, Air Force and FAA. I've also worked in the automobile industry for Subaru of America. I'm glad I chose this field. If I could change careers it might be as a marine biologist or musician.

Nobody works anymore? Everybody is retired? Lol. Half the guys on the board saw Eddie Shore as a promising rookie. Bob's first stick was hand carved by Jesus when he was still just some carpenter. I do a lot of things but I am primarily a writer and one-time academic.

Seriously though - a few of us have been around here long enough to have announced retirement to the board in one way or another. Shupe, watchtower, zambo...sandog even moved to Florida.

I'm no spring chicken. I could retire now but I want to reach full retirement age and work a couple more years after that. Once I retire I'll eat a lot of pussy like the OC.

We might have crossed paths Product support at first for Computer Corporation of America, Model204, that software was in about every military group and intelligence agency. Then moved into QA at Oracle, wrote automation code, (scripts). First few jobs were good, stock options were good to me. And now my final company... they bought back their stock for like $270. I was hoping they would go public or get bought out by someone public. But no. Got bought by a clown show - who everyone has heard of - but will remain nameless here. There was an all hands meeting to tell us how we could donate part of our paycheck to their PAC - political action committee. I wish I could have ended my career on a high note, but their group in India sucked my job away and now I'm just doing manual testing, ugh. I'm just about at retirement now, so I think too late to move. Maybe something might change for the better, but it doesn't look that way... And I've probably said too much. But fuck it, I'm beyond caring. The only benefit (I guess) is they shut down the US office as most of our group is in India, so everyone works from home in the US. The problem with working at home is that I'm getting cabin fever to the max. I'd be interested if anyone else is in the same boat I'm in and what you do to survive.

When my young spoiled brat investment banker in NY tells I'm good to go...Algarve is where i'll be found.

Retired high school educator since 2008, I started teaching young. Congrats RHO, the teaching profession is extraordinarily stressful. I could write of my positive experiences, but it is boring and no one gives a shit. My second job from the early days as an educator right up to now is to paint houses and do handy carpentry. Last year was my last 40 foot ladder house. I have renovated three houses. i work for a wealthy person who has more work than I can handle. I read a lot and enjoy hockey for entertainment. Baseball, football and basketball I have lost interest. Hockey is still the best. I have said this before, other forums and postings are fulll of crap with occasional interesting posts. Here one can find some pretty good analysis and humor most days. I hate hot and humid weather particularly July and August. Having no hockey makes it worse. Traveling has been in the eastern seaboard of NA and europe. I would love to go to Japan.

If it smells like fish eat all you wish if it smells like cologne leave it alone. There is a not so secret group you need to join if you want to feast on the Honey Vag... But be warned, it's not easy... Most limey you will be the eater, not the eater. You'll most likely need some training only OC may be able to provide... Many have attempted, many have failed. Think of OC as the Mr. Miagi of eating the Honey Vag, lol.

Should’ve been a fireman or a porn star.

One degree of separation here for sure. The programming school I went to was Cambridge Institute for Computer Programming (CICP) it was a 'feeder' for John Hancock IT as the curriculum was all the software that John Hancock had. That was in the mid 80's, so if you were working then we have certainly some common acquaintances

I'd be interested if anyone else is in the same boat I'm in and what you do to survive.I started working from home 2 years ago and I absolutely love it. Save on gas, much more relaxing . I don't mind not being around co workers all day. I still have to communicate with them remotely. We have a sprint every 2 or 3 weeks and a scrum every day where we give our updates. I'm just not the type of person that needs to be around people i work with all day.

I'm just not the type of person that needs to be around people i work with all day. I felt exactly the same way for the first 3 years, but then it started to get to me. And NOTHING to do with being around coworkers. It's the cabin fever, I am getting really tired of not going anywhere. We're eating out a lot because I can't wait to escape the house and look for any excuse to get out. Second is that I feel chained to my desk, it happened 3 times this week when I went out to get coffee or took an early lunch that someone called and I wasn't at my desk, I feel really guilty because I wonder if people think I'm always away goofing off. I do have one "cheat." We have MS teams which flags you for inactivity as you probably know. So I wrote some code to make it appear like I'm always at my desk, the code just simulates the shift character being hit so it keeps the keyboard active. I did this because I have a KVM box and use my home PC simultaneously and I sometimes do work on my home machine - and also when I'm researching how to do something and there's a youtube clip on the subject, I'd rather do that on my home machine as I don't want work to think its entertainment I'm watching on youtube. And if I get a long personal call or home email that's taking time I don't want to be flagged as 'away' - because I am there and can drop the call or email.

If i have to go out to get food or take my dog to the vet if its going to be longer than a half hour i might tell someone I'm going to my away from my desk for awhile. Maybe I just work for a more relaxed company than you do. If teams says I'm away it's not a big deal because it happens to everybody on the team. As long as i get my work done on time im not going to feel guilty about being away from my desk for any amount of time.

But almost certain they would have all been let go by now. John Hancock, one of our founding fathers, is now owned my Canadiens and let go 90% of its US based staff to employ those overseas instead.... Irony...

I’m a lot like brewins and bhab it seems. I love being at home, except maybe the part involving mrs. schlich. 6 years at home now. I hate the job. mostly because I fantasize about retirement almost constantly. And the whole scrum/sprint bs which is newish to me. I’ve been saying “2 more years til retirement” for 4 years now. fuck
