I’m a lot like brewins and bhab it seems. I love being at home, except maybe the part involving mrs. schlich. 6 years at home now. I hate the job. mostly because I fantasize about retirement almost constantly. And the whole scrum/sprint bs which is newish to me. I’ve been saying “2 more years til retirement” for 4 years now. fuck I am so with you. I keep wishing they lay me off. This is how utterly fucked up this company is, like 15k software people at the company. Some idiot in middle management decides no one read the documentation anymore, so they lay off all the tech writers- rationale being that 'no one reads the doc' - they didn't consult anyone of course, they just went ahead and did it. You can just imagine the shit storm that caused. Yah, then it falls to guys like me to pick up tech writing duties. The scrum sprint implementation is just get QA to do way more work in a shorter period of time. If implemented the way I read about it probably would work ok, but put it in corporate's wheel house and they just use it as a tool to beat the horses harder. And that summarizes a shit company, when management's answer is always beat the horses harder, never admitting its their mismanagement fucking things up.

Not only being a slave, but being treated like an asshole. So this is their newest idea for all the software teams - make the product better, come up with idea to improve it. And do whatever it take to help the sales guys, because without them - no paycheck. Of course the India manager pick up on this and is all gung ho about kissing ass and saying a great idea and what have we got. Of course I was completely ignored. I said - no - it's the CUSTOMERS that are providing us the paychecks, we should ask them what improvements they want. I've seen this shit a million times, one potential client says some shit to shut up a salesman, we want the rocket to the moon feature - and then they bust everybody's balls to get the feature built. And then nobody buys it. And I was completely ignored by all except one product manager who said I had a point.

In other companies I worked for they have user groups who had annual meetings and they suggested and then voted on features they wanted. PM's have less power at my company because of the political game going on. Another hint at who bought my company. You've heard of them. Brothers. One just left alive. Last name begins with K. The game is to impress K, results are secondary. And now the business makes dilbert cartoon look like a well oiled machine.

OK, you can easily imagine this - I have a particular political belief and the owner is a Libertarian, my worst nightmare. That they want a piece of my paycheck for their political action committee. It's just wrong. If the shoe was on the other foot - if it was someone anti-abortion who was asking all his employees for money for their PAC, there would be a shit storm like none you've ever seen before.

Scum of the earth and they both never worked a day in their lives. Rhymes with coke. And sounds like it, too. One is left the other died. And the are worse than you know. Check out his flunky kid - you can find this on the kid's wikipedia page. The kid is now a VP - imagine that - after this event as a teenager In September 1993, at age 16, xxx ran a red light, hitting twelve-year-old Zachary Seibert with his car. Zachary died shortly thereafter at a local hospital. xxxx pled guilty to a charge of misdemeanor vehicular homicide and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and 18 months of probation.[10][11][12]
I can't quit, too hard to find another position doing what I'm doing for the dough I get. And if I quit, then instead of paying me, they would give it to their fave conservative politician, so I might as well take it instead.

Retired high school educator since 2008, I started teaching young. Congrats RHO, the teaching profession is extraordinarily stressful. I could write of my positive experiences, but it is boring and no one gives a shit. My second job from the early days as an educator right up to now is to paint houses and do handy carpentry. Last year was my last 40 foot ladder house. I have renovated three houses. i work for a wealthy person who has more work than I can handle. I read a lot and enjoy hockey for entertainment. Baseball, football and basketball I have lost interest. Hockey is still the best. I have said this before, other forums and postings are fulll of crap with occasional interesting posts. Here one can find some pretty good analysis and humor most days. I hate hot and humid weather particularly July and August. Having no hockey makes it worse. Traveling has been in the eastern seaboard of NA and europe. I would love to go to Japan. You served the profession well, isla. Appreciate your kind words. Post-teaching you have a lot going on, man. Pretty cool stuff. Since retirement is so fresh with me, I have to remind myself not to have the sense of dread that comes from the realization I no longer have to go in to prepare my classroom or do long-range plans. Those friggin' back-to-school ads which used to serve as a reminder of summer vacay nearing its end don't irritate me like they used to. Let me ask you this: After years of being in the classroom, did you have to remind yourself you no longer have to have use these last couple of weeks of August to get ready for the year? How long did it take before that thought became second nature?

Totally empowers students instead of having them held accountable for their actions. I've been lucky to not have a kid confront me in a manner that posed a threat. Probably due to me dropping my "angry black man face" on 'em. Translation: I say what I mean and mean what I say. When NAS arranged the forum ZOOM a few years ago, you looked pretty youthful, man. From what I could tell, you and danny were the only guys with a full head of hair. You even commented about the lack of folicles on the screen. I wouldn't have pegged you for being on the verge.

It's a voluntary program to automatically donate x amount to their PAC. No one in the company is supposed to know who donates and who doesn't. They would politely get turned down with a Big Eff U!!! I've decided to dedicate some serious time to creating a survival manual to make it the last number of year until retirement, or otherwise when you have to stay in the job your in for whatever reason you can't get a new job or quit. First, and I'm seeing this in every organization, management, upper management - divorce yourself from them. Hard for me since I took real pride in who I worked for in the past, but not anymore. They are the generals above you and are generally clueless, you are the infantryman, find a foxhole and survive. These "corporate directives are just total bullshit and usually there is no follow-up on them at all, so talk the talk and pretend to drink the cool aid, but dump that drink into the nearest flower pot. Focus only on your responsibilities, all the rest is noise, disregard it. Why are you doing this? For the wife? kids? pets? that retirement home in Portugal? Put a picture of that up near your desk and look at it often for motivation - that is why you are there, to get to whatever is in that picture. I'm going to dedicate more time to this, I'm not going to suffer a shit quality of life banging out the last year, or two, or three.

One retired as a HS principal in Ma, he took on evaluations of potential teachers. He still does the work but he reduced the hours of work or evaluations. He played golf a lot, he is also an ocean fisherman out of the Merrimack River. In other words he kept busy. Then August was gone. My problem is I still have dreams of teaching, nightmares (stress) and positive experiences which were many. It was a good career overall.

Contrary to popular opinion I do not make my living as a full time professional pussy eater and part-time fantasy hockey champ. I'm an industrial engineer and worked in government mostly as CAO and later in energy development for a little over a decade. A few years ago my wife (who is a computer programmer) and I started a software company. We developed a program that's a bit of a disrupter. Won a "shark tank" type competition, got the attention of the national research council and the national news did a story on her for women's day. It's now kind of exploding and it will be our future, either by growing it into a company that destroys others or by selling it to one of those companies it would destroy. It's all been kinda trippy and partly happened by accident when we both lost our jobs during covid. Hard low to a big high... like the 3-0,3-0, uh-oh to the Cup in '11.
Love the current work, even though it can be draining and dry at times. Enjoyed government work for a time, but became jaded. It's awesome to work at making a difference to communities, but it's impossible to please everyone and - generally speaking - elected officials are idiots. Building a $20M sewage treatment plant? Approved in 5 minutes. What color flowers go on Main St? 3 day discussion ending in fistfights. I slowly became Ron Swanson and am glad to put it in the past.
Love hearing about what all of you do, great to learn more about you assholes.

From what I could tell, you and danny were the only guys with a full head of hair. You even commented about the lack of folicles on the screen. I wouldn't have pegged you for being on the verge. Spot on, here is some quick notables on education in NH. 1. School Boards and teacher unions have too much power, and too little staying power to finish what they start. 2. Discipline for today's students boils down to how they had their own bedroom growing up and did not have to share with brothers and sisters. Something about the brutal nature of being downgraded by your siblings. It gives perspective. 3. Administrators, one in particular who had some input into my retirement. His qualities: micromanaging, condescending, limited cognitive perspective on human beings, and yes, he half arsed his knowledge of progressive eduction on saving every individual at the expense of others education.. 4. The vast majority of the students were good human beings. Many are doctors, lawyers, building contractors, electricians, nurses, IT geeks and unfortuneatly teachers. The problem is they had to surround their HS education with constant interruptions to learning, no elaboration. Living in NH I tend to meet many of them who are now turning 50, ha. 5. For Bookboy, the teaching nightmares are personal. I tend to denigrate my efforts. As a history educator, I was not great at syntax. Grading papers were very difficult in that respect. So the time consumed grading was long and created stress. The positives: My ability to connect historical happenings was top notch. As a AP US History educator, my lecture skills were excellent especially in producing an inquiry approach to learning. Those students were predominately audio learners. Ok, that is enough. Off to take care of horses.
