Cute win and all, but Linus must be thrilled to know that when someone skates in his crease and slewfoots him, fucking nobody has got his back. That's shit in my book. Maybe it's fine in book's book, but not mine. WWAFD? This pussy ass team better be able to flip a switch because there may be a beat down in the playoffs unless the goalies save their asses. Good point on that one...the only thing I can think of is Ullmark also knew the guy was coming and dove when his stick got to skate...not saying you're wrong, just that maybe Linus didn't feel as "wronged."

Throw punches first and ask questions later. End of story.

Looked like Ullmark did the "I'm just going to turn sideways and make myself look as wide as possible to create a screen for my defensemen" move - while standing in the crease. I think he was surprised when the Flyer came into the crease to kick his feet out (his back was to the Flyer at the time...not incidental contact, so...good call. "Nothing to see here, move along" (-->Bruins team mates). I don't think it was much to get our panties in a bunch over...

Throw punches first and ask questions later. End of story. I agree with the principle but not with your earlier statement about the risk. I also couldn't believe that no one went after the Flyer later in the game. Like, I get not wanting to jeopardize a 5 on 3 PP chance, even when you're already up goals, but for no one to go tap the guy on the shoulder and tell him the tax man had come to collect? Don't like that at all. But other than dislike, I wouldn't make a federal issue out of it. It's not just a Bruin thing; it's just not that league any more. Somewhere along the way the league decided it was fine with more Trevor Zegras style punk ass bitchery and that getting revenge on the scoresheet was easier to explain to the general public in Seattle, Vegas and maybe Utah next. The last 200 PIM season was Michael Haley in Florida in 2017-18. Haley only played 69 games after that year for four different teams. There's only been 9 200+ Pim seasons since the year the Bruins won the Cup. 6 of the 10 guys to get there were double-digit minus players in that season. Since 2015-16, there have been just 9 150 PIM seasons, and 3 of them happened in 2015-16. The last 5 full seasons, there have been 37 100 PIM campaigns. 650+ full time roster spots x 5 seasons = 0.011 percent. There are now only about 330 fights in an NHL season, which was a good month for the Wings when they had Probert, Kocur, and a young Gerard Gallant. I just don't worry that the rest of the league will see that as a sign the Bruins are soft anymore. We already know fighting disappears in the playoffs, too. I wonder how Ullmark feels about it, but based on the way he positioned himself almost to invite that kind of contact - tempt the idiot into taking the penalty - he might be happier with it than if the Bruins blew the chance to get the 5 on 3 to defend his honour.

I think you may have the right answer, but to a different question. I'm not saying for that instance we need a Bob Probert to goon it up, but we do need a "stick up for your teammate" attitude and not allow that to happen. Perfect example is right back to WWAFD. What would Fetence do. Is Ferwnce Probert? Hell no, but Ferencecwas the consumate teammate and stuck up for his teammates. He didn't allow that shit and 90% of the current rostered non-goons probably would do the same. You DON'T need to be a goon you just need to be a GOOD TEAMMATE! Shit, most pee wee players would have done SOMETHING! Most of you I'm assuming laced them up at some point... Whatever levelyou played at, would you have let someone slewfoots your goalie? Its about team unity, self pride and being a good teammate. Let all the other sports have what's one the back of their jersey come first. Hockey is different... The 2011 team wouldn't have all just skated away. It's fucking embarrassing.

I think the display of false toughness we see in those situations on some occasions is more embarrassing than doing nothing. Ben Chiarot skating up to Freddy in a similar situation topped off by a goal to...what...tell him in some very strong language that that just is not on, sir...it is not on? Freddy exposed him by telling him no time like the present. How many times in recent memory have you seen some Cruiserweight lay a bad hit along the boards and the first guy in is 5'9 170 because he's a good teammate...but you know if the cruiserweight really wanted to, he could end the guy who is trying to deliver a message. Like Shawn Thornton having a good hug and probably losing a split decision to Matt Cooke. I see what you're trying to do there, but maybe...don't? Screw the scrums and the face washes. If you're going to hit someone for it, hit them. If you're going to issue a strongly worded rebuke, have your people call their people, or skate over to the bench, point at their best player and say "he's next." That was my strategy when I played...way, way back in the lowest levels of competitive hockey. I've said before I was a shopping cart as a defenseman. I didn't so much hit people as roll into their way and cause them to fall over me. I was only elite at getting back up fast. But I had a coach early on who instilled the idea that if they do anything to our best players, their best players are fair game. And I was sneaky as fuck. Ference was awesome. But it was Brad Ference who was not NOT Bob Probert. 10th overall pick by the Canuckleheads put up over 250 Pims one year. Like a good Calgary kid!

No telling what might happen if you don't get the fuck out of here right now' and they leave because there's just no telling!

I was the first one to come in Defense of your honor and called his mom a dirty crusty-passed whore. You all may not be on my Christmas list, but I got all yalls backs! I think Ullmark sold it, top of his crease, got clipped and went flying, 2 minute penalty, desired result. The rest of the team knew it and it stemmed the Flyers push, no need evening it up. As far as the 2011 B's not letting that slide, it didn't help Marc Savard against the Pens, Cooke skated freely the rest of the game and then there was the staged bs the next time they met. What was their collective excuse? They all said no one saw it, lol, yeah right.

Well, if you are saying they didn't because they can't, that's a pretty crap situation too... It is, but my point is...that's the league now. And in this case the "can't" goes back to the precipitous drop in fighting majors, and teams making it an instruction to their players. Case in point, against the Rags, some call up doofus laid out Stutzle with a big hit and Stutzle got up all huffy like it's illegal to make contact on Germans or something. Brady Tkachuk squared up with the guy. Score was 2-0 Ottawa at the time, I think. Rangers took momentum from the fight and went on to score 5 second period goals. All the talk radio dinguses were talking about it this morning - maybe Brady needs to control his emotions better so he doesn't hurt the team. Maybe Timmy Stu needs to dust himself off, learn to keep his head up, and be a man (give that to Kevin Harlan and see what he can do with it). Everything is wrong about that. From the guy who got hit complaining about a clean hit to the Ranger having to fight for throwing a clean hit, to Tkachuk getting criticized for standing up for his Lil buddy. And you know what? You know why I think Tkachuk actually went and fought him? After a clean hit? Because there wasn't going to be PP for them to get their cookies. Stutzle learned his act from Klinsmann; he was sucking for a PP by acting like the hit was dirty. Everything. Was. Wrong. If the Bruins showed up at the rink and learned that Paul Stewart was going to be the ref that night, they might need some help. Other than Freddy and Lauko and FoBo, and hey, maybe Floyd Maywotherspoon, I don't really want Marchand or Carlo or Carlos going even though they can, and Coyle and Geekie will take bouts but then also beatings. But Stewie's pretty happy in retirement.

Uh-oh, I think someone has a serious case of ADS (Advocatus Diaboli Syndrome)... You're missing the point, book, because what Andrew Ference did wasn't "false toughness":(See 0:28 - 0:46, 1:23 - 2:32, 3:01 - 3:11 - once again thank you, mdsizzle, for posting this clip in a previous thread.) And I think that the Bruins would be much better off with someone like Andrew Ference on their current roster.
I'm sorry, book, and I really don't want this to look like a personal attack, especially since I, as I have posted a couple of days ago, think that you have contributed a lot of very valuable posts to this forum, but I'm sick of this "used car salesman" stuff.
For instance, Matt Grzelcyk, as I and others have pointed out many times, has no business being in the lineup over Kevin ShatnerKirk, Mason Lohrei or Parker Wotherspoon, period. I don't care if he makes $3.something mill or $4.25 mill per year and it's allegedly ridiculous to assume the GM could be that far off, because considering what he has brought to the table especially this season he should be making $0.0 mill. I don't care if other teams have worse dmen, or if you think the coaches would never allow him to do what I saw him do in every game I have watched this season, therefore I must be wrong, blahblahblah.
And this "false toughness is worse than doing nothing" line sounds exactly like a "used car salesman" pitch, or "Chamberlainism", at least as far as I'm concerned.
You're better than that, book, much better - at least you used to be.

I was envisioning the one from Slapshot, but this'll work.

It may be a different question, but it's related. You're better than that, book, much better - at least you used to be.I think you are too hard on Book... It's not him, way back in the day he was usually spot on, but he changed his setting to auto-dissagree when responding to me and the poor guys rational has been on a downward spiral ever since. Even when he tries to agree the post still just circles down the drain eventually. Speaking of... I REFUSE to believe that not sticking up for your teammates is just the way the NHL is trending, like Book said.. That is just a massive pile of steamy freshly shat shit. I see hockey players and teams being good teammates multiple time in every game I watch, which is why it sucks to see my Bruins not give a shit and do nothing when their goalie is slewfooted. It's a sign of a pussy ass team... Actually it's sign of the players not even being a team! What type of player doesn't stick up for his teammates?? Fuck, I did that in pond hockey when I was 10 and I bet most of you guys did too. But this Book planted idea of "it's just the way the nhl is" and it's the B's being like every other team is just pure garbage.

They don't actually call him that. It's just what you hear when he loses his noodles and someone cracks an egg on his head. sizz is like the guy who you would want to kick someone's ass for you. I'd call him room enforcer Well, he definitely sounds like the guy you want protecting your goalie...fiesty, expendable, etc.
