Seriously, the momentum switched when Sway was benched, toronto was overjoyed to not face their daddy sway, they were afraid of his 960 sv percent, i really think Monty sucks, you can't get a rythm with the goalie rotation, his bad decisions costing us the momentum. Sway better get 1,3,5,7 and Linus 2,4,6. It's going 7. it would seem to me...the only reason to even consider tending in this conversation...is if the goalie didn't play well. but he did! momentum usually switches...when you do something. not when the other team doesn't. this didn't play out like a 3-2 game. it was a spankin on par with any of those last 8, the B's laid on the leafs. linus was the only reason it was a one goal game. Agreed.. Take away the whole rotation debate and analyze the game... Linus stood on his head! The team was outplayed. Could have been much worse but Linus kept them in it. With the rotation, it guarantees the B's will have a top 5 (thats how it's done OC) fresh goalie for as long as they need. BUT that's just a part of it... The team needs to to do their part... The goalies can be expected to, and are put in the position to, be at the top of their game... They can't be expected to steal games every night.. The team needs to perform.

Anyone else think that Matthews got away with closing his hand on the puck to "catch" Domi's alley-oop pass and throw it ahead before scoring the winning goal? Even Simpson complimented his "nice grab" on the play and it being a post pattern. ( My wife and I got into a short argument about the topic and she did NOT want to watch my rewind replay... ) I screamed it out loud. You can’t grab closed hand and place the puck where you want. It’s a penalty. But shitty refs wasn’t the reason for that loss. Goaltending was even. Our def stunk. Shattenkirk didn’t even attempt to block cupcake shot on pk. All of their lines out played ours esp their 4th line who was good. Remember when Freddy drove Ovi crazy. Why can’t he be that guy again? I liked that guy. Freddie it seems hasn't figured out what type of player he is or wants to be.

I've been one of his biggest critics, but I think at least he is noticeable more this series, picked up a late EN in game 1. He is hitting people, but that line isn't doing much overall. Maroon was more a liability in game 2 but that's simply because he is slow and Toronto is fast overall. Maroon hits people but he slows down that 4th line. Let's not sugarcoat how awful 48 looked throughout the game..stuck on ice with 12...how do they let happen about 3 different times? Sure no 52 hurt, but come on Monty, 12 and 48 together??? Just like Too Many Men on Ice--COACHING WAS AWFUL...

On the plus side, I thought Zacha and I feel this has been going back to the last few games of the regular season--maybe the B's best forward. He is making plays, tips, his forechecking and center play has been stellar. 18 is just playing way above what I ever envisioned. Fantastic job by 18.

I think not having Brazeau hurts as he can get to the net and cause havoc. Please no more Maroon on any PP. No way.

*The question is how much you think skating is a factor. Freddie has zero lateral movement, JVR and Maroon are just slow. 2 out of the 3 must play as they are all big. Freddie needs to play better if B's want to minimize this exposure.
*B's got out of sync when they had to go to 5 d-men; it makes matchups much more difficult and fatigue/mistakes/missed assignments happen. As a result, Matthews line had way more room. Untimely penalties did not help either.
*I found it interesting that the Bruins won the Cup with 2 goalies playing equally in 72. No excuses...just need to execute and play better, especially on offense. Linus was awesome last night...leafs could have had 5 or 6.
*Matthews goal was legit. You always get leeway with gloving the puck directionally.
*I'm glad Bruins have Wotherspoon...dude is poised and solid for a backup.
*Bruins need to make skilled forwards and dmen pay the price more. They let up a bit after game 1 and it seemed Leaves got comfortable with the room they got. This is why taking Lauko out would be stupid. Need to up the ante and go after Narcos Nostrils, Bitch Marner, Pajama Boy, and Morgan Reilly. Do it without taking penalties.
*Anyone else wish they owned a dragon when they show Leaf fans out on the street?

I am so tired of watching Marchand give the puck away and faik to convert chances It will be a long two games in Toronto. If Marchand continues this type of play. I don't expect it to keep happening. But it's alarming, the Captain needs to get it going.

PPs need guys moving around and creating openings…. The days of Gary Dornhoefer just parking his rear end in the goalie’s face are long gone…. As for Freddy, he needs to up his game a notch…. Nobody’s asking him to be Cam Neely but he needs to provide a bit more than just hitting opponents…. Think Monty should flip Beecher and Lauko….

Geez. it should be obvious he'll turn Reeves inside out in the offensive end...but defending??? He won't touch the puck. to me, this is the kind of glaring issue, that should not happen in your own barn. and it ain't on him

Thought Carlo had a very good game. The Bruins..I dunno. Linus was excellent. goalie talk is crazy. I think the rotation thing, is clearly the way to go, til proven otherwise. The tough part about tonights game, imo, is our guys lost so many battles. They competed, but TO looked stronger. Momentum has shifted in the blink of an eye. Now our guys have to scratch back and will something. Biggest, most important game of the year coming up. Lot a work to do. What I saw - and replying to you specifically on this - was complacency. They looked like a team that dialed up their intensity and still only really played about a B+ game in game one and they smoked the Laffs on the scoreboard, so they came out and got a lead, and then immediately let the Laffs push back. Then they got another lead, and went on to play more like they've played in the second half of the season when they took a playoffs spot for granted. I don't think they really did compete the way they did in game one. Or they did, but with the intensity at 6 or 7 instead of 8-9. I think the two things that need to stop RFN are the soft plays and hero puck. How many times last night did the Bruins turn over the puck in a bad spot because two guys had a chance to make a strong move to own the puck, and they both deferred to the other guy or, at most, made a soft tappytap shuffleboard sort of play to set it up for the other guy...who almost every time was choosing to fly up ice for a stretch pass instead. The one I remember the most vividly was Boqvist. You could read the thought bubble above his head at the Bruins blueline when he looked up and thought oh, Johnny will get that so I can take off here! And Beecher was holding off so that they didn't collide both going for it. Stupid. See a loose puck, own the loose puck in that situation. And OMFG Marchand and Pastrnak have to wake up. Yeah, Pastrnak had the second goal and Marchand set up the first, but Pastrnak was the beneficiary of someone else generating possession and setting him up for a shot in the high slot, and Marchand made a low percentage pass through two sticks - not counting the goalie. He could try that 10 times and make it once or twice and the other times, it's probably a turnover and a clear. Saw Marchand try to dance guys half a dozen times and just get ridden off. Pastrnak tried two or three rushes and it went as well as if it was Maroon trying them. Stop it. Just stop. They're both supposed to have high hockey IQ but they look like guys who used to play Midget hockey showing up at men's league not realizing that most of the teams have played at a decent level and have been together for a decade, so they play a team game and you aren't Pavel Bure. I thought Zacha was strong all night, and there were times that JDB was a one man reload with how quickly he was getting to pucks and the Leafs trying to make a play on the breakout. I'm not at all worried about them. I worry that Coyle was doing that thing where he possesses the puck for 12 seconds all with his back to the net and no awareness of his teammates, then turns it over at the worst time. McAvoy has to be better and Lindholm has to pick up his offensive game. I agree with you on Carlo. Wake up, Bruins. Best of 5 and they now have home ice.

And seriously, he had 204 hits this year. The only players with more hits who outscored him were Brady Tkachuk and JT Miller and Evander Kane, and Kane got him by 4 points. His stats line up with Tom Wilson - Wilson had 24 more hits in 8 fewer games but also 5 fewer points and 13 fewer points at ES. He's played that dual role as well as anyone - even the latest darling Ivan Barbashev who outscored him by 5 points but plays 4 more minutes per game. How about instead of bitching that he isn't still behaving like a guy trying to stick in the NHL as a pest, we ask why the Bruins haven't got anyone else who can do that who isn't also expected to score 40 points playing 12-13 minutes. Freddy is an easy and familiar target ever since the Bruins reached for him in the first round. I think he's a lazy target to bitch about after these first two games. The Bruins didn't lose because of Freddy's game.

I didn't check that part out of the replay - too busy looking at the glove of "Ham Hands Matthews".

Misc thoughts on previous posts:
Nostrils on the closing hand. Could have been called via the rule book but rarely called. Players are now blatantly able to grab the puck and seemingly allowed to direct it in any direction they want.
Matthews was also instrumental in the final goalmouth scrum where multiple Bruins had some serious pokes at the puck while Samsanov out of position and the ref rightfully kept site of the puck.
Hate to admit but kudos to TO after a deflating goal with 7 seconds left in the period and having a goal called back. They never quit and had us in panic mode for multiple periods of time.
Back to TO tied with Nylander back in the lineup (?) means B's will need to really be at their best.
Go Bruins and hope Sway stays at the top of his game. Everyone keep shooting on net and good things will happen. And PLEASE -- try to stay out of the box and remember -- only 5 skaters and 1 goalie allowed and no more.

Wow — Canes score 2 in 9 seconds to come back from 3 goals down. Still 2 minutes left for Papa WA’s team to tie it up. Games getting chippy now, next game in Long Island should be spicy!! What is it about the EN goals. It wasn't a slapper by JakeyG and Nelson takes a 2 hander then ditto by Palmieri by the boards (no surprise--the same guy who waited for the refs to skate away from the play with backs turned and delivered a vicious elbow to McAvoys's grill). More Islander BS ensued -- then to finish the game -- Richard Scull PWa sends Martin and Clusterfuck on the ice to cause more trouble. Dude -- your down 5 -3 where your team melted down and allowed 2 goals in 9 seconds. Let's see what happens as the games move to Elmont. No fan of Canes but Islanders suck.

I hate the way he gets scapegoated by people citing 1 ENG in 11 playoffs games like he played a regular shift in a top six role in those games. He played a 4th line role with other 4th liners; he played fewer total playoff minutes as a Bruin than guys like Karson Kuhlman and only Hathaway and Lauko have played less on a per game basis. Now you can say whatever you want to criticize his game that the coaches didn't trust him enough to play him more, but to criticize him for not scoring in his 9:35 a game for 9 games is kicking a guy when he's down, methed out, bleeding from several open wounds, and concussed. I think what bugs me is exactly that scapegoating vibe. Same thing with Grz. Pastrnak has 1 PPG in 2024 but let's rip Freddy. Marchand forgot how to score goals, but boy is Freddy disappointing. McAvoy is minus a million since the ASG and looked shaky again last night, but let's be disappointed that Freddy didn't score more when he was a 4th liner trying to earn TOI by hitting, fighting and being a greaseball. Would it have been nice for Freddy to score more? Sure. Put him on the PP then and take off one of the useless tits who refuse to make the safe play on the entry or who keep trying to throw it through multiple sticks or who can't win a board battle to keep possession so every PP is a series of failed entries followed by a one and done chance. But shitting on the guy who led the team in hits, was solid on the forecheck all night and was one of the few Bruins to hit with malice, because just like Marchand, Zacha, Coyle, DeBrusk, McAvoy, Lindholm (total salary, mostly driven by their offensive abilities - $35M+) he didn't score a goal last night is to pretend all of those other guys played better than he did, and as a secondary scorer, the problem is he didn't step up to fill in. He had to step up because the guys who get paid to score played like garbage for most of the game, generating almost nothing and not finishing when they did get a break. I'd flip Freddy and Marchand if you want to see him score. He and Coyle have worked well together before. Marchand at 5 on 5 is a disaster right now. Let him go play energy line hockey.

Speaking of the 4th line, TO is getting mileage out of theirs , had the B's hemmed in and running around a few times last night.

Best of 5 and they now have home ice. nothing there to disagree with, and I hi lited a couple of my favorite points. one thing I was speaking specifically to, but using a generic term for, was compete. your more expansive explanation, including perfect examples is spot on. I'm not sure that can be included in the board battles we lost so regularly though. I think that's kind of another category, and I think the effort was better than a 6 or 7, but the results made it look like a 3 or 4. I can't resolve that logically.

Even though the Bruins effort was pretty good, Toronto was better in almost every facet of the game diminishing the level of the Bruins effort.
