Well bullshit can suck the big fat guy (NAS) Does it not seem like Ovi just came into the league. Remember when no one wanted him and that he was a cancer and coach killer. Well I for one have loved him since he came into the league. The thing I still love is that he still plays the game like when he first came into the league. I also love that while some skill guys are soft he's far from it. He's a freaking tank. He may never be the best guy in his end but he's even worked on this and attempts to block shots.
I hope he finally gets a chance at Stanley this year. I would be pumped to watch him play for the cup.
500 goals soon. Think about that. Iggy just crack 600 and seems like a dinasour compared to Ovi. If Ovi stays healthy does he have a legit chance at Gretzky?

I want the B's to win the SC and thats it for me. Next thing is the "ABM" rule (anybody but Montreal) . As far as Ovi, hell of an offensive machine and still has a lot left in him, he won't catch Gretzky, but 650 to 700 gls could be a possibility if he stays healthy.

Has the games best set up man and a good young supporting cast. The big thing for me is health. If he stays healthy I think he's well over 700. Think about it. He has half a year left and is gonna hit 500 soon. He could be at the 530 mark before the end of this current year. He's not an old man either.

I checked, he's 30. If you figure he can average 50 gls for the next 5 yrs he'll hit 750, if he averages 40 , he'll end up with 700. Health is the key. Gretzky was never injured and the league was wide open fire wagon hockey, he also had a 92 gl yr, which is like 2 seasons worth for a normal superstar.

Segzy or Kess could catch Gretz, but those are the only players that I can think of off the top of my head.

He's a machine. What if he's healthy like iggy though. He's gonna come close to 800 if he continues this way. Even if he slows some that pp shot isn't gonna leave him anytime soon. I don't think he breaks it either. But if he puts 3 more 50 goal yrs in he's gonna be pushing 700. Amazing player.

If Ovechkin were shooting at goalies with the equipment they wore in the 80s and early 90s, Ovi would pronably already be close. Tough to compare stats in a different era. Eff you Garth Snow!

He's the greatest goal scorer of his generation, but being the captain of a routine 105-115 point team that's never made it to the conference finals in an 6-8 year window says something.
I've seen Ovechkin live at least five times, and he doesn't do a damn thing without the puck. That's not to say he's lazy or doesn't backcheck, because those areas of his games have improved, but I've seen little hockey IQ aside from "give me the puck, I'm open" and if he's in the defensive zone, forget it. He just kind of floats around out there in dead zones waiting for the puck and he uses his generational talent to fire the puck in the net.
He's one of the rare cases in hockey when pure athleticism takes over. You see this more often in the other sports like basketball and football, where some players are simply faster, stronger and taller than the rest.

As good as he is, he scores all those points and doesnt win anything, whats the difference between him and Joe Thornton?

As good as he is, he scores all those points and doesnt win anything, whats the difference between him and Joe Thornton? Positions, imo. Ovi is a product of the cap era. Players before him like Brett Hull were absorbed by great centers, role players, and defensemen. Now you can only have one big money player on each team before things start getting diluted. I think there's still hope for Ovi. Jumbo Joe will have to wait until a retirement tour as a third line center on a contender. You know, couldn't you make the same comparison with Iginla as well? He's never won anything besides a President's Trophy with Boston.

My favourite clip of Ovi is still when he coasted on a goal against. He looked like you were playing Xbox and you dropped the controller on the coffee table because the pizza delivery guy rang the doorbell.

I love watching him play. In some ways he seems like the most talented player I've ever seen.
I don't care for him much of the ice, and still wonder if he's a leader type the pushes a team through the playoffs. I think we'll find out this year. That team is loaded.

A few yrs ago everyone said they need to blow it up. I think their fwds are best out there. Goalie wise they are good. Defense has been extremely steady but need some health. Orlov has been outstanding as has Schmidt.

Orlov has been outstanding as has Schmidt. A few years ago, some of those people would have been right, and while the Caps never 'blew it up' they certainly have had some significant roster turnover in weeding out the Alex Semins' and Mike Greens', and pairing the amended roster with the right coach. I do think they showed patience with a bunch of young players that are really paying dividends now. I think the young home-grown defensmen are excellent -- Orlov, Alzner, and Carlson (better than the expensive signings). I also think they have some pretty bad contracts and they better strike fast because it's gong to catch up with them on that roster. Orpik's is awful. Cap hell is coming...
