Ovi now 49 gls behind Gretzky after potting 2 more last night. He'll be out there on a wheelchair with skates trying to break the record.

I mean lets say Ovi gets 4 more gls this year, that leaves 45 gls, so he plays 3 more years and averages 15 gls a year, done. He could score more or less than that each year but you get the idea, he likely will break it.

He was a dominant player for a long time, but now he's just a shadow of his former self, and that's putting it mildly.
I don't want him to break Gretzky's record. And even if he does, to me he will never be even close to the player Gretzky was.

I don't want him to break Gretzky's record. And even if he does, to me he will never be even close to the player Gretzky was.The record would be the most prolific goal scorer in NHL history. Today Ovi got 2 more gls and after a very slow start is up to 26 gls, not bad and he still has 12 games left so 30 gls or more is possible, not bad for a 38 yr old. In his last 3 years playing full seasons Gretzky had 25 gls, 23 gls and 9 gls, so Ovi has topped that already. It's also something to remember that when Wayne played goalies weren't all 6' 3" and wearing pillows for pads, there were alot under 6' and had Sears catalogues for pads. There was much more clutching and grabbing back in Wayne's day although nobody was allowed to touch a hair on his head. Ovi obviously isn't the hockey player Wayne was, first off he didn't get near the total points, played a different position and played a different very physical style. If Ovi breaks the record my hats off to him.

Most can’t name their 4 lines. He’s been awesome. I have to see him live and I wanna catch a playoff game in DC before he goes. Two generational talents will be retiring soon. Where does the time go.

If Ovi breaks the record my hats off to him. I still don't care. I preferred the days when you had to earn a record. Nobody threw fastballs down the middle to Roger Maris so he could break Babe Ruth's home run record. And let's not talk about the way Hank Greenberg was treated. Dragging an old washed-up player along so he can break a record? Yeah, that's the right way to grow the game. Especially when that player has very questionable opinions about politics (and IMHO never was a good ambassador for the game anyway).
Gretzky was not a player they only kept in the lineup so he could break another record. He still had much more of an impact. His last season was the only year he didn't score at a one point per game rate (but .89 per game was still pretty good).
Back in the day, I preferred Ovechkin over Cindy, but not anymore. That's what politics can do, Gospodin Putinlover.

Some young pieces are getting a chance and they are faster than they’ve been in years. No big game on def other than Carlson. Only 4 originals from cup team left. They have been fun to watch this year. They have a hard schedule to the playoffs though. Just beat the Canes and Jets. Huge game Tuesday vs Detroit and hold games in hand. Win that game and pr sure on Detroit.

I've seen one game live at MSG in my life and it was Rangers vs a 23 yr old Ovi. We got there late because it's Manhattan, missed the first 10 min of the game, and came it when it was 3-2 Caps with two goals by Ovi. Zero goals the rest of the game. He was still the most exciting player to watch all game.

Well see. Good to see you back Shuper! I really wonder if it will come down to tonight's game and the final meeting between the two on April 9th. Winner take all? Caps are a point up with a game in hand, but if Detroit can flip that point tonight it puts the pressure back on the Caps. Both teams have a tough road, too. Caps have the Laffs, Bruins twice, Canes, Bolts, Flyers. Two against Buffalo and one against Ottawa - spoilers. Wings have the Laffs, Panthers, Bolts, Rangers and Canes. Caps making a run AFTER running both Mantha and Kuznetsov out of town is impressive.
