Seems like a solid choice. Will be interesting to hear from him about philosophy and priorities. Doesn't seem at all "solid' to me. He was Chirelli's hand picked man. He was the main man during all of those terrible "draft' seasons. If he was all that solid...the Bruins didn't seem aware of it. Apparently, they had to go on an "exhaustive' mission, in order to appreciate what was already under their nose. And 'philosophy" and "priorities" If any of these qualities were the least bit in demand...it seems odd, the executive would be dragging out, the long mothballed Harry Sinden to further convolute a disfunctional executive. JJ has spoken very clearly, as to his comfort level with the current braintrust. If Julien stays...what started rearing it's ugly head in January(which undoubtedly affected on ice performance) will go down as one of the most hollow, empty, insincere, "improvements"...this organization ever embarked on. Give it a fawking rest already. Let's see what the man can do before you start bitchin & whinin. Time to move on from Peter steve. The Bruins have.

He certainly seems the boring choice. It will be interesting to see which way things go.
Somehow I can't shake the feeling that somewhere Chiarelli is singing "I've Got No Strings" to himself.

I'm still getting used to all this "hate Cam Neely" stuff. No, actually, I'm not.
And the cynicism about this hire? Really? DS was an obvious choice. The guy is familiar with the system, was the AGM for years, and is comfortable with the Prez who fired the last guy he wasnt comfortable with. If there was a multi-Cup winning hall of Fame GM candidate out there that the B's missed in the last month, thats unfortunate. They took a month and hired a decent candidate. Who cares if it took a week or 5 weeks?
People that argued that PC should have been given a "mulligan" or a second chance are now complaining that all is for naught if CJ isnt fired fast enough. Again, whats wrong with giving him a shot to take another direction if thats what Sweeney decides to do? He's on a short leash.
Some of the teeth-gnashing about replacing a GM that looked to be an obvious fire and replacing him in-house is positively Red Sox-esque. He fired the best guy for the job because he didn't like him. Fuck cam Neely

I always see the positive. I'll take Book's number 1. Sweeney still will have interim stamp IMO. He will have a year to give continuity!

There's a lot of cautious optimism, but are any Bruins fans really excited over the hire of Don Sweeney?
One of the best GMs in the league was fired over a playoff miss with 95 points, I would want to be really excited about a GM pick if I were a Bruins fan. I don't know much about Don Sweeney, but I haven't heard of any teams asking to interview him, leading me to believe that he's more of a "company guy" than an up and coming assitant GM like Julien BriesBois, Paul Fenton, Gorton, or recently Jim Benning, Jim Nill or Marc Bergevin. Seriously...I watch about a hundred games a year and pre-PC firing, I had no idea he was in the Bruins organization.
What's on his resume? Working with Providence?

Good luck to Donny.
The next question for me is this: How short is Neely's leash? I mean he fired the most successful GM in 40 years and replaced him with his buddy.
Another angle is this: PC always complained about how difficult it was to make deals...maybe other GM's didn't like PC, so Cam showed him the door so he could say to other GM's that they can deal with him and Donny going forward.
So much drama.

They took an assistant GM who has years of admin experience after a long, solid career and an education at Harvard. Remove that he's an in-house pick and it looks good to me. Any and all calls of paper-GM are about as valid as Cam the Figurehead statements from before. 100% unfounded with nothing to back it up. I hope he does a great job. Fine. I'll stop beefing about all the things I don't like about this. Let's see what kind of job he does. Starting with the press conference.

"Really excited" No. Hopefully someone with some smarts in the organization realizes that morale among Bruins Nation is pretty low and that needs to be addressed. Get your fans excited again, it's good for business and that's the bottom line in professional sports.

And I'm still trying to get used to anyone questioning anything Neely does, is construed as "hating Cam Neely". Just because Cam is a Bruin icon, does not mean he should not be held to the same scrutiny as anyone else. Also, you will find that the majority of people did not think firing PC was "an obvious" move. If DS was as obvious a choice as you say, why was he not named GM a month ago?

re: Cam Neely. I can't be bothered to find the exact quote, but he did say in that press conference that he wanted more power or more control or more say - one of those if my memory serves correct or at least similar wording.
What does that mean specifically? That's the question I want answered.
Later he said the GM would have complete autonomy. I don't see how it can be both.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise !!!
- Gomer Pyle.
I think Sweeney has known for a while he was going to get the job. I read somewhere that he and Julien had gone to some secluded hideaway to discuss , presumably, Julien's future.....Julien will be the coach for this team.... Otherwise , they would have been in on McLellan or Babcock .... Who is left out there? Aside from Bylsma? No one worthy to consider unless you go Philly style off the grid... Onward and upwards as they say. Some tough decisions coming up for Donny Boy!!

In your opinion. I don't think PC has set the table for yrs of good growth. I don't like what he's done since the cup win.

Cusp of joining u in del Bocca vista. Cam Sweeney will have a devil of a time doing anything. Trades? Sure, but not ones he does solo....our ufa's are likely walking and we have next to no room to bring anyone in. That candy store sucks....they have cough drops and 50 year old hard candy.

the gm's been named and CJ should be given a chance to right the ship....
now let's see if DS is able to land a scoring winger and at least a top-four d-man in order to bring the B'S back to where they belong which is still playing hockey on this date next year....

Svedberg ? Campbell ? Paille ? Not much to worry about who's leaving there. And who relies on UFA signings anymore except for bargain priced signings to fill the backend of lineups ? Welcome to modern day hockey shupe. Anything else you need help with ?
