The guy on the right, isn't that the accomplished songwriter that just passed away? I forget his name.

Holy crap. color me blown away by this new song by....wait for it....The Monkees ! It was penned by Benjamin Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie. Nesmith's vocals are really great (as are Dolenz's harmonies). This song is beautiful. I can't get it out of my head. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfruDTmFDUAAlways liked Nesmith's voice.

I always though he had the best voice too. More conventional than the other two. But thats one of the things that made the other two special. They'll never be another collective like these guys, schlich. In my opinion, the present form that reggae has taken in dancehall is pure shit. Indecipherable mumbling.

Well, I humbly submit to the excellent musicologists on this thread. Very eclectic from the likes of Henry, Mr. Hulot, and Richhill Others included. My cds are still packed up as I renovate my house. My collections are suited to my age bracket, of which is overplayed but in some instances nostalgically refreshing. I grew up with the influences of Soul, R&B, Motown, and the British Invasion. Later, I adopted Punk, College Radio, and alternative music. Tragically Hip is in the collection albeit not as prominent as Cracker. An old friend who is 12 years younger, ha, introduced me to many groups not so popular in NA. Paul Kelly, aforementioned posting Steve Earl, Robert Smith with the Cure (The Forest is awesome), Camper Van Beethoven, Nick Cave, and the Go Betweens. I've seen all of those in concert except Nick Cave and the Go Betweens. In my collection I have The Pogues, Shane I saw in concert in Boston on Irish day back 10 years or so ago. Anyway, keep posting. Although I will not contribute much, I am all ears. Cheers.

This is incredibly sad. Not being Canadian I know The Hip don't hold much sway down here, but Gord is a Canadian icon and their music is excellent. Pretty brave of him to honor the summer tour as a farewell. Many tears will be shed. I like the stuff he did with the Sadies (my favorite Canadian band outside The Band).

I liked the Monkees when I was a kid then I grew up. At some point when my daughter was little she developed an obsession with monkeys after I brought her a stuffed monkey when I was on a business trip. So for Christmas that year we gave her a box of all sorts of monkey items. PJ's, slippers, earrings, etc. including the Monkees greatest hits CD. She liked it enough to play it in the car and I found I still liked them. Not so much the Day Dream Believer stuff but some of the more obscure tracks. The band was mostly a front but not completely. Davey was an actor but could sing. Mickey was also an actor and almost learned to play the drums but as it turns out, had a good voice for the genre. Mike and Peter were real musicians. They eventually wrote some of the songs but most of it was penned by pros. Boyce and Hart were big song writers and probably wrote more Monkees songs than anyone. But Neil Diamond, Gerry Goffin and Carole King wrote some. Nilsson and some others, too. Despite the goofy show with a fictional band, they managed to create some good music.

There was something I read where Setzer's guitar tech talked about how loose he likes the action on his guitar. It sounded like madness to me. Not what I like at all - but he's Brian Setzer and I'm some guy you wouldn't want to hear at a Boston Pizza lounge, so.... Love his signature Gretsch white falcon, though.

Off to see Ringo and Todd Rundgren tonight. Should be fun! How was the show Isla? You never gave us an update. We enjoyed the show, nice venue up in Gilford NH. Our seats were 17 rows back so up close views of the members was excellent on the cool NH evening. Ringo sang and did his gig but Rundgren was bouncing around like usual even at the age of 67. Steve Lukather's guitar work was excellent beyond his standard Toto songs. Richard Page balanced the others with some reflective lyrics and songs. Greg Rolie was pretty good at infusing Santana's hits. Overall a great time. Rundgren was the best.

Great performance here. If a bomb went off on this stage, about half of the Boston Mafia would be gone in one fell swoop. Darrell is the best around. He sings like Jimmie Vaughan would if Jimmie could carry a tune. So much feel, understated, impeccable timing. I saw him do the James Carr stuff (Love Attack/Pouring Water on a Drowning Man) at the Regattabar with this cotillion and the crowd went nuts. "They Call Me Monster Mike Whether I Like It Or Not" Welch is still in great form, and he's changed his style greatly since he was a kid. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lr7S4V1sVKo
