continued from the game thread The expansion draft is a pickle that's for sure. Still the protected list will have more talent than the Vegas one. I change my mind at least once a day.
Goalie
Vladar
Rask signed after draft
Defence
McAvoy
Carlo
Lauzon
I'd look to sign Reilly before draft and Miller(?) after for added insurance giving Seattle the choice of Grizz,Reilly,Zboril,Clifton,Moore
Forwards
Bergeron
Marchand
Pastrnak
Coyle
Smith
and two of DeBrusk,Ritchie and Frederic.
Honestly I would have left Smith unprotected before the emergence of the second line with the addition of Hall and of course the continued dumpster the DeBrusk has been, maybe sign Ritchie the same as I would Reilly and take our chances
Hall and Krejci signed after draft

I'm glad you started the latest expansion draft thread.
As I posted in the game thread, why would Reilly sign a contract to play in Boston just to be used as bait to dangle people away from Lauzon? His agent should be fired if he allowed that.
I like Lauzon and all, but giving up Reilly or Gryzz is a nonstarter for me. Zboril/Clifton/Moore are not "choices" after those 2 players being offered, either.
I still see Freddy being the cost-controlled your player they would like if they took a forward. I wouldnt miss Debrusk. Use his money on Hall.
Maybe The Krakazoids take Vlad?

Vlad is being protected in my opinion, because Rask isn't going anywhere and there is no other goaler to protect, Halak walks and Swayman backs up. Right now I'm probably protecting Ritchie and Frederic and taking my chances with DeBrusk and looking to trade him, unless he turns it around. Again I might feel different in a few games. I can see/argue protecting Grizz or even Reilly as well from the game thread So Ritchie over his career is producing at 13G-18A-31Pts-90PIM and this year is running at 20G-20A-40Pts-60PIM. You don't think that is worth $1.5M? And yes that's exactly my point regarding Grizz and Reilly, because Lauzon adds a different dimension to the D corps than what we are getting from McAvoy/Carlo/Grizz/ and Reilly. He is younger and is getting better. And I believe I have seen and know what I am getting out of Grizz and Reilly. Reilly isn't getting a NMC or NTC no matter who he signs with or when. He's going to sign with Boston for the same reason I want the Bruins to sign him. He appears to fit in, its a good team, and to get paid. He's making $1.5M now we're not talking about Seth Jones here

I would think Kuraly would get a protected slot. It wouldn’t kill me if “fly by” DeBrusk was taken. The other game Marchand drove the net to get his shot blocked and the rebound going out towards the point. Another shot was driven in to get blocked with Marchand sitting on the post to get the rebound and bury it home. You want to know what’s wrong with DeBrusk? He would have skated thru the slot and then circled back with no thought of posting up. His beautiful skating could be his own worst enemy.

I can't see protecting Kuraly over DeBrusk/Ritchie/Frederic. He's been in a fog most of the year, and like every year seems to struggle at times at the center position. I'm doubtful they even resign him. Having said that he's looked decent the last few games with Coyle and I hope it continues. But let's not repeat the same mistake as the Wagner signing

I know why he would sign to play in Boston, but why would he sign with the Bs if they were to expose him? I wouldnt.

Exposing players like Kuraly, Wagner, Moore, Clifton... it doesnt matter. Theres no possible chance of them being picked.

The goalie only needs to be under contract or an RFA, no games played req Thats why one option would be looking at moving DeBrusk to protect Ritchie and Frederic. Risks DeBrusk returns to form and the last 60,70,80 games are the aberration Ritchie gets too comfortable with the milkshakes Frederic is nothing more than a 4th line antagonist Reilly is getting exposed no matter what. It doesn't even enter in the equation

I think Zboril or even Clifton would be the better comparable, but yeah we all had this argument the last time around between McQuaid/Miller/Miller. Maybe Donny can trade Wagner to Seattle to get them to pick Moore

I'm thinking the B's should protect,
McAvoy Carlo Lauzon
The Kraken might not be into smaller Dmen so Gryz might slip through and i think Zboril will. It depends on what forwards are available i guess

Wow this is a bizarre take. Games aren't even remotely the same. Their games aren't remotely similar. Lol, I didnt say anything about their games. I thought CMiller, who by the draft was a sure thing to get drafted, was similar to Lauzon who seems to be a sure thing to be drafted this year. Hence the 2.0 reference. I was not terribly clear.

OK, rethinking this with Reilly in the mix, I was thinking maybe the Bs should think about the 8 skater strategy instead and keep both Reilly and Gryzz.
Unfortunately, that would leave either Smith or Coyle unprotected.
If the Bs third D is Gryzz, they lose Reilly. If they protect Reilly, they lose Gryzz.
They are going to lose a serious talent and it appears that wouldnt be Lauzon in either case.
None of the other names come into play.

No one is, unless they are getting a NMC.

What do the Bs lose during the Seattle draft is important strategy. I tend to add who else is available from other teams. One variant is Cap swapping and draft picks used to prevent Seattle from picking a particular player. Ryan Graves is probably going to be one of those players whose value is too much to give up. Subban may be another where by a draft pick or prospect is used to rid of his contract.
There are many mock draft scenarios out there. Many are as faulted but not to the degree of the receent NFL draft prognostications.
Here is one of the mock draft predictions by Kirk Luedeke et al. Note they have Ritchie as the draft pick. Personally I would leave Frederic dangling. Also not no Bs defensemen. I believe the Kraken heads can draft 14 Forwards, 9 defensemen, and 3 goalies.
Goaltenders
Braden Holtby (Vancouver) $4,300,000
Vitek Vanecek (Washington) $716,667

Caleb Jones (Edmonton) $850,000
Jake Bean (Carolina) $863,333
Josh Mahura (Anaheim) $745,000
Right Defense
Matt Dumba (Minnesota) $6,000,000
Erik Cernak (Tampa Bay) $2,950,000
Markus Nutivaara (Florida) $2,700,000
