Gonna need U 2 Utes for all the 2-1 and 1-0 games. Offense is going shaky in the beginning me thinks. Maybe in the beginning the offense will struggle but I think they find a way and get into the playoffs and who knows what will happen then.

Also useless is spending cap money on Trent Fredric or Matt Gryz...and yes you dump one of the goalies now. At some point, it's time to use money for real players that make a difference.

It was cute untill we realized that having 2 good goalies is useless in the playoffs. Trade one for a center. Remember when Canada lost to the Czechs in the Olympics in 1998? Shootout lineup was Fleury, Bourque, Nieuwendyk, Lindros, Shannahammer. No Gretzky. Would you say it's no use having Wayne on the roster at the Olympics because they lost? The comparison is that the problem isn't with having two goalies. It's with bad decisions on how to use that advantage. If Linus Ullmark had so much as mild gas, they should have started Swayman. They decided to have Ullmark play through his injury. Crawford should have used the greatest scorer in the history of the game in the shootout. He decided to go with Ray instead. Not Ray's fault. Not Ullmark's. Crawford's and Montgomery's. In the world of trade one because only one plays, you're more or less saying you're fine with losing the way they did because they basically played one goalie who tried to cowboy up as though there were no options, and couldn't. Then there's this: Vegas won the Cup with Hill going on a run, but Laurent Brossoit played 8 games for them. Florida started the playoffs with Alex Lyon in net. Carolina got 9 games out of Freddy, 6 out of Raantta and 1 out of Ketchupkov. Dallas had to turn to Wedgewood three times (no starts though). Joseph Woll played four games for the Laffs, starting twice. The teams with one goalie and only one are rarer now for teams that go deep. Two Cups ago, Kuemper got the contract as the Cup goalie for the Avs, but Francouz played 7 and started 4. Vagisil played em all because he's one of the few exceptions. Edmonton made the final with Smith starting them all but Koskinen still played 4, and Shesturkey started them all but Georgiev played a few too. Teams that go deep need two goalies. You don't want to be a single point failure team where you're depending on one guy and if he gets hurt or goes cold, you're screwed.

You never "dump" a good player. The hate for the JTS trade is because they dumped a good player. There are Frederics and Grzelcyks on every roster making similar money. Ours have been better than the average for those players statistically. The problem this team has faced in the playoffs is that the top end couldn't play to their potential. Not that their 11th leading scorer who plays 12 min a night didn't step up.

Because he has yet to earn a point in 9 playoff games and 2 coaches healthy scratched him or felt he was not good enough to be among the 12 forward lineup. That's why. I just feel like it's time to move on from the kid who to me is not ever going to step up in a playoff game.

You can play 4+ centers if you want. Goals one at a time dude! Hello! Was Gretz available and healthy and the coach decide to sit him? When would you even compare a forward to a goalie... You know they are different positions, right? Goalies... Only 2 on a roster, and can play one at a time.. Centers... A tad different. You are really struggling to make excuses for your auto dissagree book. Slipping buddy!

Look, book is easily the most skilled poster on this board, easily the brightest hockey analyst out there, and yet it's like you make an opinion that may or may not be valid, and no matter what it's like you have to attack that opinion. It's okay, I get it (stevegm at times goes overboard, sorry steve, you do), but book is savvy enough to also think maybe someone else's view could be right...even if it's wrong! My point is that we all have some really good takes or points on things here and some are as off-based as it gets, and others are spot on. But we need to respect that a little. Of course, what good is this board if we don't over analyze or even over analyze practically every post...so in closing...pass the ketchup.

The reality is Boston can get the same level of game 7 goaltending right now for $5 or $6M that they are gettting for $9M. That $3M savings is huge. One of the goalies could also be an asset in a trade for a center who can be on the ice at the same time as the goalie they keep in a game 7. I see not making a move a dumb right now, assuming something good is available.

If the argument is that thry shouldn't have two excellent goalies because look what happened in the playoffs, that was a problem of making bad coaching decisions and not playing Sway as soon as you knew Ullmark was less that 100%. The whole advantage of having two is that you don't have to ask either of them to play at reduced capacity. They chose to play a goalie limited by injury instead. Crawford chose not to have Wayne Gratzky shoot. 99 may be the best forward ever to play but so what if he doesn't take the ice in the most important moment. Sure you can only play one goalie at a time. You can also only play 5 skaters. But you rotate them because Pastrnak with dead legs isn't as good as AJ Greer fresh off the bench. In a playoff series, there are up to 7 goalie shifts. I get that in a perfect world, you only need one goalie. But goalies get hurt. Goalies wear down. Recent Cup winners have needed two over the course of the playoffs. And the 3.5M you could spend on another player or the guys you gett in a trade can also be sitting on popcorn alley with a herniated disk. Plan for the worst, hope for the best, and pray your coach isn't Marc Fucking Crawford when he has to decide the beat way to use the assets at his disposal.

Well you can't blame me for missing the point if you dangle the comparison of the B's post season goalie fuck ups to not icing Gretz! But I think we all get what you are saying for the most point... The thing is.. Do you NOW trust the B's to handle goalies correctly in a similar situation? Do you think they'll learn from their mistakes? Do you think having two top tier goalies during the season is necessary? Do you think it's a wise use of capspace? Do you think it's worth the risk of shorthanding forwards (more specific the center) just to have two good goalies? What's going to make the team better overall? What's the chances we injure our starter in the playoffs... And shit... Even if the starter is injured, are the B's STILL going to ice him??? Because that's just fucking stupid and apparently happened. Seems like a no Brainer choice to me. Trade a goalie. If for the sole reason of, you can't make a stupid choice of a 1A 1B situation if there isn't one.
