I know this is off-topic but it would be nice to see how a Fatavoy & Lindholm tandem do if healthy for the whole season and playoffs. I cannot think of a better tandem in the NHL that can play both ways and do it all including the physicality. This is one reason why the Bruins can succeed and go far without a true #1 center even if the goaltending is less awesome. Adding Hanifin next summer and Lohrei panning out. Bs are set for quite sometime.

When Toronto and Montreal fans want to discuss prospects Boston passed on. Re-Drafts will show Bergeron, Krejci, Marchand, Pastrnak and Lucic. Bergys brother had told me the Habs met with him before the draft - Andre Savard was off in a corner reading a newspaper and they told Patrice he was in their sights as a 4th rounder - pissed Bergy off to say the least Guess the Shabs heard Bergy grew up a Nordiques fan…. At the end it was a win-win for both him and the B’S….

The ‘79 draft has to be my favourite when Uncle Harry plucked this d-man from Quebec after teams ahead of the B’S chose the likes of Rob Ramage, Mike Foligno, Mike Gartner, Rick Vaive, and Craig Hartsburg…. All except Foligno had played the previous season in the WHA as underagers…. Wonder had that kid the B’S chose also played a year in the WHA if he would’ve still been around at #8…. Too bad Uncle Harry couldn’t make another steal later in round one and missed on another kid from Quebec, Michel Goulet…. I don't think Washington loses too much sleep on Gartner, and Vaive had 50 one year. Bourque was clearly the better player over his career, but it's not a massive whiff. Even Foligno and Hartsburg had good careers. Just...not Ray's level. Looking at that 2016 class, Carolina went D one pick ahead of the Bruins and took...Jake Bean. First D taken was Juolevi. Oops. Puljerjaarvi went where he was supposed to according to all the experts. Nope. Nylander (Alex), Brown, Jost, McLeod all not much to write home about. Keller and Sergachev have been very good, but I would take Fatavoy ahead of either. I think all those gms stayed awake many a night having whiffed on Raymond, including Washington’s…. 500 goals or not, big difference between Gartner and arguably the second best d-man in history…. Make that possibly the best d-man in history since #4 is in a class by himself….

I won't judge Bergy. After 19 years of professional hockey, the toll on his body must have been immense. Money was not the issue, it never was. I honestly believe it was a combination of the physical toll and parenthood calling. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to watch him for so many years. Nothing but thanks and respect...and very sad I pray he comes back as a coach! but you are judging, just like most here. my points aren't highly judgemental, rather a bit of a counterpoint to all the suckery. i'm not sure the "toll' on him is any worse than anyone else whose played that long and continues to play at a high level. neither does anyone else here, who feels so emotionally violated. if I hear differently, i'll update my thoughts.
