Now that DK has joined PB in retirement what will the Bruins do? Will Donny say ride it out until 2024-25 when they will have a lot of cap space to wheel and deal or will they trade current players and try to win the cup in 2024?

Now that DK has joined PB in retirement what will the Bruins do? Will Donny say ride it out until 2024-25 when they will have a lot of cap space to wheel and deal or will they trade current players and try to win the cup in 2024? Well, the first thing I will say is that I feel for Looch. You have to imagine he had other expectations when he signed back in Boston, and frankly I thought his arrival tipped things toward another final, final season. Like the Who on tour. Second thing is that it wasn't just lip service that the Bruins had planned for both PB and DK to depart for a while. The acquisition of Zacha was to address one of those two positions, so next year, we'll see him in the C role all year. So really, I don't think the DK decision changes too much from what we've discussed when 37 hung them up. In terms of what they'll do, I still think it's a little from column A.... I don't see the Jacobs family buying into a rebuild after paying out huge contracts for Pastrnak and McAvoy, and they would really have difficulty executing a rebuild. They're literally too good to lose enough, traded away their draft picks, and don't have the kind of tradeable assets to bring back a plethora of young players outside of McAvoy and Pastrnak whose deals are so large they are almost untradeable. So they will certainly put the best team they can on the ice, focus on making the playoffs, and then try to take the path of top notch goaltending, an elite defense corps, and a couple of players capable of timely scoring to make a playoff run. I can totally see them winning a Cup with that strategy to the massive regret of PB and DK. But I don't see a lot of wheeling and dealing to try to win now. They seem content to go into the season with Zacha and Coyle as the top Cs. And the retirements have taken some of the "window" pressure off. Most of their key players are under 30 now with the exception of Marchand, and McAvoy and Pastrnak are still in their primes - hopefully for 3-4 years still. So it isn't like the realization that if you don't win now, you might never win with Bergeron or DK again. They have to weigh their best chance to win a Cup in that next 3-4 years, because there's not much to suggest they're going to get a lot worse over that stretch. If they think Lindholm is a good get, they could do that kind of thing for immediate returns, but I think any short term move will have to help over the long haul as well.

Not sure about this rumor but -- JG Pageau for JDB !!! Take it or leave it? Straight up? No. That's nuts. Why trade a guy who is about to turn 27 (wow, time flies) for a guy about to turn 31 when the guy about to turn 31 has never scored more than 43 points (the 27 year old has two 42 point years, a 43 and a 50), and only scored 20 goals once (23 - JDB has topped that 3 times already)? DeBrusk is probably their most tradeable skater - attractive to competitive teams because he's on a decent deal for one more year and then they can re-sign him or let him walk; attractive to rebuilding teams because he's played in the Finals, scored big playoff goals, and is still in his prime. If you're trading him, it's to get a either a legit top C (a vet like Lindholm or Scheifele) or a guy who has a very good chance to grow playing a top 6 role. Sort of what Seattle got out of Jared McCann but with less of a "hail mary" element to it. You're not just looking to walk away from DeBrusk for a guy who can play the middle. I would put Jake on the dot before I would do that deal.

Not trying to be a realist, but the B's don't have much in the way of scoring after Pasta...so that means DeBrusk is a keeper.

And if they aren't top six, then no. Wahlstrom's also a RW. Now if he was a LW, Sweeney would already have made the deal.

The Bruins return 4 guys who scored more than 20 goals last year, one guy who had 60, and one of the 20s has been in the 30s for a number of years. Between Hall, Foligno, Bergeron and Krejci, they lost 69 goals. If the guys that replace them get just 30, plus they get a full year of Marchand at full capacity, a full year of McAvoy at full capacity, they'll be tracking as a top 10 team in goals for. Pastrnak, Marchand, Zacha and DeBrusk will all score. We'll see what Coyle can do. We'll see if JVR has much left. It's not dire. It just won't be as reliable as we've seen.

JDB's a UFA, so he's not a keeper beyond this season at this stage. No extension tells me he doesn't want to stay and/or the Bruins aren't sold on keeping him. And yeah, I totally agree he's a good player, but if they want to bring in a #1C, they have to give up something good. If not JDB, then who? Obviously not Marchand, and dealing Zacha would be both dumb and counter-productive in terms of filling the center void. Not dealing Lindy or CMac. Next in line in the scoring list is JDB. You then have Coyle, Freddy or Gryz. The options are limited in terms of what you can move and what people would want. If JDB can't be extended, he's option #1.

Maybe they should value him and extend him. No Hall, No DK, No PB, no Bertuzzi...that makes JDB to me a far bigger commodity, plus he is great in shootouts, which is helpful too.
