In addition to Botterill more or less trying to deflect conversation away from the brawl, the whole SN crew discussion was actually kind of interesting not for what they said but for the approach. They talked about Rempe having it coming for cheap shots in past games where he then declined to answer (or couldn't after being ejected). But they also spent alot of time on Laviolette inviting this by starting his fourth line. Pete invited Green to send in the clowns. This was criticized because Laviolette had last change, and could have sent the Panarin line out there to take advantage of Green starting MacDermid along with Lazar, Tierney, Bahl and Marino. But he chose violence.
That, of course, doesn't take into account the way Laviolette was screaming at Green after the brawl.
My take is that the Rangers knew Rempe's bill was overdue. They saw Green send out MacDermid and accepted the invitation to settle it. But I don't think Laviolette was banking on a line brawl that would lead to ejections, because he probably doesn't send out Trouba and Miller for a 2 second game sheet. And if you look at the ejections, the only two fighers who didn't get tossed are Lazar and Vesey because that was considered the first fight to break out. So I'm guessing Laviolette is angry at Green because he baited the Rangers with an action that would be very much under the code, then threw reason out the window.

Great commentary by all with levity to boot. One last comment on the perception and my Rempe rant hopefully ends for good. For a guy that averages around 5 min per game it’s guys like Sam Rosen and Joe Dick-a-Letti — feeding the frenzi when they continually chirp “oh how the puck handlers cower when they see that freight train coming” or when they played Boston — “nobody wants the puck when he’s on the ice”. Moving forward — just turning the sound off during Rags games should do it.

Interesting discussion on the radio on the way to work this a.m. after the Senators got rolled by the Panthers. On two fronts.
First comment that caught my ear was one of the hosts saying that he used to think they had the right players, but they needed a few key additions; now, though, he thinks they need a significant turnover to purge a culture of losing. Duh...but that's not something the radio partners of the teams often are willing to say. What caught my ear then was "I don't blame the players necessarily because there are a lot of people who had a hand in that...". Wait. Wait. What? I mean sure, Pierre Dorion is responsible for assembling this team. He traded Stone for Brannstrom and he drafted Stutzle, and he traded for Chychrun and signed Tarasenko. But his contribution is to the culture of losing is measured in players. DJ Smith tolerated his stars not playing responsible hockey for forever...and he's not there now. And the thing he tolerated was from the players. But in the end, if you have a "culture of losing" doesn't that mean you've assembled a group of losers? So it's really ALL on the players? Maybe it's not on ALL the players, but it's ALL on the players. I just don't understand why there's such reluctance to point fingers at the players.
Second, I guess a big part of the spanking they took last night was Matthew running around and punking the Senators. And Brady didn't do a damn thing about it. Radio talking head said that no other player in the league would get away with what Matthew did against the Sens without at least a courtesy call from Brady. I guess at some point they have said they aren't going to fight one another. Promised mom or something. But Matthew is punking his little brother by taking full advantage of that. Their father has said that Matthew wants no part of Brady, too. Add that to the legend of Matthew Tkachuk - he's such an asshole that he goes out of his way to make his little brother look bad. In a 6-0 game against a team they had already beaten 5-0 this season. But also add it to the above. No one on Ottawa stepped up on recognizing the situation. They rolled over and piddled on themselves like schnauzer.

Like the Sabres, the Sens are going to bad for a long time. It all starts at the top. Andlauer and Staios are supposedly the saviours but they have a lot of guys who just don't play winning hockey. Pinto came back and played like he was shot out of a cannon for a while but then started to slip back in with the mess. Must have money riding on the opponents. Tkachuk doesn't seem able to lead by example. Stutzle has the rep as a diver and ref killer. Norris can't stay healthy. Batherson is helpless in his own zone. Greig is a third liner at best. Giroux isn't getting younger. Chychrun is shellshocked from playing on awful teams, and Chabot is the same but worse. There's a lot of talent but no will and no savvy. They think they need vets so watch for the big deal where they send one of the young guys to a good environment for a grinder. They've changed owner, execs, GM, coach and STILL protect these fragile players.

They need the right guy and that will go a long way to getting them on track, lets be honest D J Smith ? Jacques Martin ? The Sens have some talent and with the right trade or two and a savvy UFA signing they could come into focus. If Staios tries hiring the "next big thing" in coaches it might be the same old same old, he needs to get a guy with experience who hasn't been on the coaching treadmill forever.

The natives are restless in Ragland. After the Pelech hit on Zabanajad and the Dobson crosscheck/boarding on Trochek (both non-calls) — Tribal fans calling to bring in the clown(s) for Saturday game at MSG. The same guy who already suspended for 4 games for illegal head shots. No surprise — PRoy very amused.
Should be an interesting showdown.

Saw this yesterday. Looks like the Delta Center (14,000 for hockey) will be the temporary home until a dedicated arena can be built.

So Stone will be ready in time for the playoffs ? And how many IR’s to follow down the line? Landeskog, chytil, Wheeler, Jarnkrok, Klinberg, Demko, Niederreiter. League claims they are keeping a closer eye these days but time will tell.

Salt Lake here comes the NHL. I would have thought this would be big enough to get its own thread. But just like the Mullett Center I guess its appropriate that its also just an afterthought and only gets a few posts in a general thread. Finally this debacle is over. Hopefully the Atlanta nightmare doesn't come back, granted bad owners previously but even so, the look is cringe worthy to come back to the ex a third time. And just like everybody not named Betman I would love to see Quebec City back in.

It's not just Bettman that wants the Flame/Thrashers over Nordiques. It's the current BODs NHL owners. The shaking midget doesn't act alone. Could be behind the scenes that Montreal ownership doesn't want a franchise back in Quebec City.

Flyers are out with the Caps win. Tough result but not unsurprising. The question really is whether this is a blip or are they on the right path.
Pens need a lot of help. Caps control their destiny. Wings sit somewhere in the middle. Caps leave the door open they get firat chance to walk through. Scabs can't even play spoiler right.
Vancouver could still catch Dallas and Edmonton still has a shot to catch the Canucks, so you still can't predict matchups, but ... which of these is the best representation of why the regular seasons doesn't matter once the playoffs start?
Dallas v Vegas. Congrats, Stars, on a great season. Here are the defending Cup champs and oh look, they are miraculously healthy. Did I mention their head trainer is some guy named Jeebus or something??
Bruins v Bolts. Good job, Bruins, adapting to the loss of your top two C. Here's the team with three Wales trophies and two Cups in the last four years.
Canucks v Preds. Suck it Canucks. You get the third best team since the All Star Break, 12 spots better than you. But hey, good job being hot out of the gate.
Rangers get the Caps/Wings/Pens. Meh.
Ranger and then Carolina have been the best teams since Feb 1. Florida and Toronto are neck and neck at 5/6. Bruins are tied for third worst points% by a playoff team since Feb 1 behind Vegas and Vancouver and tied with the Avs. Does that mean much? The bolts are only .003% better so in terms of getting a hot team or not, the Bolts might be Ok as an opponent. And that's all good company in that it's two recent Cup winners and a division leader in Boston's neighbourhood.
I'll be happy to get this playoff started. Feels like 2011 and 2020 where they came off of something left unfinished the playoffs before and had to endure a whole regular season before really starting over.

Terrific explanation of things, and Lucas Raymond proves to be a money player with the game tying goal in under 2 minutes left and then the OT winner. Detroit would be a more entertaining team than Caps.
