Cross is going to play at least one game in Boston this season. He's a 5 - 6 defensemen in Providence and just clinging onto that, how is he going to make it to Boston? Oh no. Now we're jinxed with a massive injury bug!

No, hockeydb has to have it recorded as him having played an NHL game. And in all seriousness I don't like him on the Providence Bruins, if he plays in Boston then we will be discussing lottery picks.

With the re-upping of Tyler Randall, I am really starting to wonder what the Providence roster will look like for the forwards and exactly how they will deal with what appears to be a bit of a logjam. I haven't looked at this real carefully so feel free to correct mistakes, but... Here are the guys that you would presume are coming back from last year and would have a spot in the top-12 forwards, unless they make the big club or are sent packing (12 guys): Koko Griffith Ferlin Flick Florek* Camara Carey* Sexton Phillips Randall Lindblad Robins* * = UFAs in July, I think (I've already deleted 4 guys from the 2015 playoff roster that aren't looking like they'll be back (Kane, Cherniwchan, Werek, Stuart) Then, they've signed these 7 guys in the past few months, and you wonder why they were signed if they weren't at least expected to play in Providence: Colton Hargrove Anton Blidh Colby Cave Justin Hickman Austin Czarnik Frank Vatrano Joonas Kemppainen Now, with these 19 names in play (by my count), for 12 forward spots, we are speculating that they'll sign Peter Cehlarik, and the draft takes place in 10 days.So it will be interesting to see which 12 guys actually start the season for Providence at forward, and it will also be interesting to see which 7 or 8 don't and what becomes of them. Any guesses? And add Kuraly to the list...a ton of competition in Providence (or Boston?)

Cross is going to play at least one game in Boston this season. He's a 5 - 6 defensemen in Providence and just clinging onto that, how is he going to make it to Boston? Um...Cap'n Tommy was the second leading scorer among Providence D last year, one assist behind Eminger in 8 fewer games. His ppg was better than Morrow, Trotman or Worseoffsky. He was tied with Lindblad in team scoring. He had the same number of assists as Spooner. #Legend.

His on ice play - as soon as the other guys get the puck he high tails out to center ice, leaving a large gap - as you noted to me he does that because he fears the speed. As well he should because he is very slow. Note that penalty minutes, the second he makes a mistake and loses his guy or lets his guy get in too good a position he takes a penalty immediately whether he is a real threat or not. Stats - that's also about the company you keep, Providence d last year was nothing to brag about. And as long as we're talking stats, check out Linus, a goal and 3 assists in 11 games, and Warsofsky was 4-11-15 in 14 fewer games than Tommy, and look at Morrow, better ppg.

Any guesses? And add Kuraly to the list...a ton of competition in Providence (or Boston?) I started this on the Gonzo thread (where no one is picking up the Hunter S. vibe...) and figured the rest belongs here. Flick - DEAD, Florek - DEAD, Lindblad - DEAD...in terms of their possible role on the roster. All signed elsewhere. Among the RFA forwards, only Randell will be back. Carey and Sloppy Bobbins are probably gone, too. So now the returnee list is this: Koko Griffith Ferlin Camara
Sexton Phillips Randall And the new bodies are: Colton Hargrove Anton Blidh Colby Cave Justin Hickman Austin Czarnik
Frank Vatrano
Joonas Kemppainen Noel Acciari and Sean Kuraly. Now, I'm assuming Kemppainen plays in Boston, but I've gotta wonder how they find time for 15 forwards and I wonder who's at risk of spending time in the ECHL. If I'm guessing about lines, they probably look like this: Hargrove-Khokhlachev-Griffith Blidh-Kuraly-Ferlin Phillips-Acciari-Hickman Cave-Sexton-Randell That puts Camara, Czarnik and Vatrano on the bench or in the ECHL to start, but this is where it's total guesswork. Vatrano's listed as a C, but if you look at his stats, he's got that imbalance of more goals than assists that the Bruins added a lot of in the last week with Beleskey, Hayes, Kuraly and Senyshyn. That could bode well for a kid with that much sand in his pants (5'10 and 215....) even if he is an NCAA player. Vatrano also potted one last year in his 5 game debut. Czarnik also put up a couple of points in a short debut with 2 assists in 3 games. He's tiny and light, and more of a playmaker, but who knows? Put him between a couple of big bodies and see what happens? He certainly put up points in college. Either of those two NCAA FA signings could be in a position to goose the offense. And that just leaves Camara. I hate to say it, but I'm guessing it's very hard for a guy many of us hoped was not simply a vestigial twin carried along by Schiefele, Ekblad and co in his final year of junior. He better come in like a lion or he'll March out like a lamb by mid-September.

Boston Globe story :
Boston Bruins director of amateur scouting Keith Gretzky couldn’t help but let a smirk slip out while talking about Boston’s fourth round pick, Jesse Gabrielle.
Gabrielle split time this season between the Regina Pats and the Brandon Wheat Kings, and finished 23 goals and 44 points in 66 games for the two junior clubs while also showing off the agitating, sandpaper-style that really caught the eyes of the Boston scouts. The six foot, 205-pound winger is going to have to learn how to harness that energy, but being hard to play against is high on the list of attributes the B’s scouts are looking for in prospects.
“He’s entertaining,” said Gretzky. “He plays with his heart on his sleeve, and that’s one thing that we really liked. He’s got to learn to be more disciplined, of course. He’s got to know when to play on the edge, and when to get under other guy’s skin.
“He can skate and he can score goals, and killed some penalties last year. He’s an agitator and we thought that would be a good spot for him.”
In three seasons in the WHL, from 2013-2015, Gabrielle has played in 117 games, scoring 35 goals and 35 assists for 70 total points along with 187 penalty minutes. The best part, though, about Gabrielle: his favorite team is the Boston Bruins and his favorite player is Bruins agitator Brad Marchand. Given their similar styles of play, Gabrielle and Marchand should have plenty to trash talk about when training camp rolls around in the fall.

Good Western Hockey League boy!
Bruins hadn't drafted a WHL player since Cunnyhammer in the 4th 5 years ago. The picked 3 this draft, 2 in the first 37 picks overall.

Brad Marchand 71th pick in 2006?

Post by bookboy007 on Jul 4, 2015 14:20:33 GMT
2006. Some kid named Marchand.
2008's third rounder is playing in Winnipeg.
They did go back to the Dub a couple of times after Hamill, taking Button in 2009 and the Cunnyhammer. They kept Hamill around hoping he'd figure it our for a couple of years after that, so I don't think it's entirely on Hamill.
On the other hand, they drafted two players from the Q this year; the last Q player they had picked was Jordy Caron.
The last three drafts, they've take two total players from the OHL...and both from the Sault Greyhounds. You have to wonder if this is part of what got some scouts fired. And it's curious that the Blair Reid and Malkoc finally got some traction this year, but even more curious that Denis Leblanc is gone the year they pick two Q prospects. I also notice Adam Creighton is now an amateur scout - is he going to take on Ontario and Quebec? They haven't replaced those firings yet.
