In the not-shocking-at-all Tuesday moments. Granato canned in Buffalo. Damn even the video coordinator got bounced. The Sabres have to get serious, they've had some good drafts and added some good players but it hasn't moved the needle at all. It's time they hire a real coach, Bylsma, Krueger, Granato....really!? Get a grip Adams.

Buffalo looking for identity, I would think. He's a bit of a cry baby but they loved him there.

"...and the final Bingo number for this afternoon is 'two dozens'! Two dozens, ladies and gentlemen here at the KeyBank Center nursing home! TWO DOZENS!" Ruff has named Craig Ramsey & Jim Schoenfeld as his assistants and Gary Bromley as his goaltending coach. Lindy says with the experience he's added to the coaching staff the Sabres are well on their way to returning to their glory days!

Probably not this "Craig Ramsay":But he could help too - if they decide to sign Braden "Vidal Sassoon" Holtby, who's currently a free agent (and has been for two seasons). They could both give each other tips about their hair...

Starting goalie for the Sabres tonight "ukkapekkaluukkonen". I don't know if the placement of all the vowels and consonants is correct, but that's how you say it!

I don't know what to say about this one. I don't have any reason to think Hakstol is a good coach or really a top NHL coach. But you give a guy an expansion roster and the second year, he goes over .600 points % and wins the franchise's first ever playoff round against the defending Cup champs. Next year, a lot of the players who had career years go backwards. Because he got them to overachieve the year before. Did the Kraken think 40 was the new normal for McCann? Eberle had 44 points their first year, then a big increase last year...then 44 points this year. That pattern is common among their players. You can say oh, well, that's why they fired him. But I don't think that makes any sense. They need to do more to improve that roster than just wait for Matty Beniers to get over his sophomore slump. What I saw from that team was speed, commitment to checking all over the ice, and opportunistic offense from a group that doesn't have much elite level talent. So mostly the things that you look to coaches to instill in a team. Quinn's sort of the same thing. He was handed the worst roster in the league and got results accordingly. They had one 20 goal scorer and he'd never scored 20 goals before. They're small, inexperienced, have zero identity, and traded away two of their better players at the deadline. What part of that was on David Quinn's coaching? They gave him two years while they totally decimated their roster and then swept him out with the rest of the garbage. I don't think you keep a coach just because you gave him a shitty roster. You hire David Quinn because you think a guy who coached NCAA hockey for that many years probably can teach young players and help build them into a good team. It's not like BU is Podunk A&M. So if you hired him to teach and you feel he's not doing that, sure - fire him. But who is he supposed to be teaching? Their top 4 scorers last year are gone or out - Couture, Meier, Hertl and Karlsson (not in that order). Their best "young" player last year in terms of points was Noah Gregor - yeah, the guy playing for the Laffs. Their 7th overall from 2021 - Eklund - had a good year. Better than Beniers. Better than McTavish (injury limited), or Kent Johnson, and while it's tough to compare, I'd say better than Owen Power. So really only Luke Hughes had a better year of the guys drafted ahead of him. Only Hughes and Wyatt Johnston from that draft out-scored him, and they fed him minutes all year. Now unless you think Quinn let him play unearned TOI and he developed bad habits - loser habits scorers get when they play on loser teams - that looks like he helped bring along a potential high value player. But sure - fire his ass. Makes no sense. They'll come back with Babcock or something. Why not? Or maybe someone else will fall for whatever it is that Ralph Krueger is supposed to be good at.
