All the more reason to have a $5M AAV Vezina winning goalie for insurance. Many saw Ullmark as insurance for the development of Swayman. I know one thing for sure Markstrom & Vladar ain't cutting it, they're horrible. All the more reason to entertain Ullmark. That way Calgary has a good goalie while there young stud acclimates.

Some parting comments...
Hathaway: “I’ll give more light to the situation as I go through those meetings, call my agent in the coming week. There’s no rush right now. I think we were all caught off guard, so that decision hasn’t really been put in front of everyone.”
Bertuzzi: “We honestly had such a blast. We were in the north end. Ate pasta every day, went for walks, we had a lot of fun, and we enjoyed it here. So, yeah, we could definitely see it.”
Orlov: “Right now, it’s dark. What I’m going to do, I don’t know. I still don’t know what my plan is. If I fly back to Washington or stay here. It’s a lot of things. Obviously, I’m going to have to make a decision [about] where I’m going to be, and I need to talk to my family and figure it out.”

Any comments from Donnie or Cam? They seem to be in hiding…. They have nothing to be in hiding about, if anything they're in shock. They'll comment in due time i'm sure, severe disappointment takes time to evaluate. What can you say when the entire team shit the bed?

I know one thing for sure Markstrom & Vladar ain't cutting it, they're horrible. Wolfe Markstrom combo will be fine. Markstrom is not fine right now. He’s awful with his .892 SV% But Calgary might be stuck with Markstroms salary. I dont see how they could move that terrible contract.

Hit totals are close and Hath kills penalties and Lucic kills people. Hath likely will make double to Lucic.

He's from the NE area but why take a pay cut.

I played around with capgeek and signed Bertuzzi for $7X8, Sway for $3X3, Cliffy for $2X3, Freddy for $1.5X2, PB and DK for $1X1 plus bonuses. Dealt Ulmark, Grizz and Reilly. That team had me with a stacked roster and $1.5 in cap space. But I don't think Capgeek has the $4M or so in bonus penalties for next year included yet, and I didn't have any spares on the roster. So the team would need to find around $5million. The next logical step is to move either Coyle or Hall, or a combo such as JDB and Forbort replaced with cheaper options. My roster looked like this:
BM-PB-JDB PZ-DK-DP TH-CC-TB JL-TF-AG
JZ-CM HL-BC DF-CC
JS BB
I didn't factor at all the return for players dealt away. I think return for Grizz and Ulmark could be at least moderately significant, either in picks or a player. I think in an ideal situation you bring in a young cheap player for linus that can fill in some gap - say #3RW - then you deal Coyle, shift Zacha to #3C, and promote Bert to #2LW.
If you don't sign Bert, you really just have to deal Linus and Grizz and you're cap friendly with a team similar to the one that just ran the table until FLA. That is, assuming the old guys are back.

Ive been messing around with CapFriendly and just doubled checked. The bonuses are definitely included as you start a Armchair GM team (says at the top).
I like Bertuzzi a ton but that is too much AAV and I just don't see Sweeney offering that many years either. But you've got money to work with.

But adding that extra year which only Boston can do could get it done. Maybe he comes in cheaper and all the better. But he's the best forward not on the Perfection Line, and young enough to have long-term value. Regardless, they have flexibility.

But he's the best forward not on the Perfection Line, and young enough to have long-term value. Regardless, they have flexibility. I just can't get too into next year yet.....but Hell yeah...lots of flexibility, and lots of options to still chase a cup next year. the key..is exactly the same as last year. getting DK and PB back for pennies against their real value. I just don't understand how the whole world doesn't get that. All this Cap and Draft shit....brains construct a great team, not the lottery. everyone has the same amount of cash. it's simply about getting best value for that cash, coupled with synergy, health, luck. When you have a MacAvoy and Pastr, taking up over 20 mil, you have to have some cheapies, and they have to over deliver. And 88, 73 have to be beasts...every night. Some have to go,... big deal. there's enough in house, even with the cap shit, to ice a great team next year. pick your poison Don, and move out what's necessary to accomodate that. I'd love to see Bertuzzi stick around, even at a smidgeon over payment. I like Orlov, but can't overpay there. Maybe have to find a Gudas for 2.5 instead. Funny how many believe so many of our great players are now all of a sudden duds needing to be pastured. Yet that same group feels Hall is whackable, even though he over delivered in that same universe that's now become the bible. Unlike the pre-PC era, some players eye Boston as a great place to play. That has to be leveraged. One thing that kind of sticks out to me, as an un-needed luxury this year, was so much veteran depth, which could potentially sit during playoffs. injuries are a fact of life, and generally, you have to go with the young uns when this happens. When money is tight, you can't expect the luxury of being able to scratch a 4 million dollar player, in a winner take all game. Rotate in and out of a D corp you went with all year, and won with, to historical levels. Being that deep creates other problems/distractions, that unaffordability will look after on it's own. We don't need a team this good on paper to win it all. We need one resembling it. "IF"...the 2 old guys come back...there's still a chance something big can happen next year. t t

Aw c'mon guys, we got the draft to look forward to! A first rounder could crack the line up. oh wait. no first rounder. but second round, there's still a chance... oh no, that's right. no second round pick either.
Well, there's the 2025 first round, and ain't nothing been traded for 2026
