They initiated in that game and the B's responded which was more than we'd seen of them most of the season up until then. A novel concept would be for the Bruins to be the initiators. Let’s hope so. I didn’t like seeing players run and no physical response. Hopeful that playoffs this team wakes up and tugs it’s nuts out. More guys following through on checks when the chance is there and lay off the curl aways we saw so much of at times this year. Make Toronto's nights work tough on them.

So is it Shattenkirk or Wotherspoon? I believe we will see Gryz, cause he is familiar with Carlo. I'd rather not see Lauko on the third line, but again I don't like Heinen on the top lines. Fat Ballon only on the 4th line? JVR? These are important questions that only mix it up Monty can answer.

At the end of this series, the media will be talking about underachieving "star players" that seem unable to lead their team to victory in the post season. It could be Matthews-Marner-Nylander. It could be Marchand-Pasta-McAvoy. Time to find out. Sadly, the Bruins already managed to do this twice in 2019 and last year. Yes...but the Toronto stars are perhaps even more notorious for failure in the playoffs.

This series might come down to who's got the better special teams. I'm hoping in this moment, it's Boston. The Bruins were in the Top 10 in penalty killing. Toronto had the number 7 ranked power play but scored only once against the B's in 11 chances. We know Boston's extra man advantage has been anything but that over the last while. In the final 20 games of the regular season, the Bruins scored just six times in 43 chances. They have to get that sorted for it to become any kind of a weapon. Toronto's penalty kill is the 24th best this year. (Had to get in that backhanded compliment.) Boston weren't so dry against these guys with three power play goals in their four match ups. Ullmark and Swayman are better goalies than Samsonov and Woll and I think it is on the Loaf duo to up their game for them to have a shot. These two aren't the backbone of their club the way Boston's guys are. Sometimes the stats mean shit. We've seen that. Just something to consider as a factor. I'm going to enjoy seeing the Bruins play a rugged style. It's the playoffs. Probably something like that last regular season game between the Bruins and Toronto when they combined for 91 hits. "Toronto netminders posted a .891 save percentage in four games versus Boston during the regular season. Ilya Samsonov has a 1-2-2 record with a .899 save percentage in seven games played against the B's in his career. Joseph Woll is 0-2-1 with a .865 save percentage and a 3.97 GAA in three career matchups vs. Boston. The Leafs rank 22nd in save percentage and 18th in high-danger save percentage this season." Is it Murray time up from the Marlies ? That has to be frightening for Leaf fans. I need some convincing that above info won't continue.

If we're going to talk about the B's last 2 games entering the playoffs then we have to look at the LeRfs. After tonight where TO is getting blitzed 5-1 after 2 periods, this will be a 4 game skid entering the playoffs, even the B's haven't been that bad. It will be a clean slate come Saturday, nothing else matters.

Bourne “what center on the Bruins is going to stop Mathews, Marner or Nylander? Charlie Coyle?” Someone should tell him Coyle has more goals and playoff points than those jokers.

It's ok if you want to hear non stop TO ball washing and horn blowing, not for me. It's going to be bad enough to hear Simpleton do the color for how many games this series goes, unbearable, he watches a totally different game that i do, heavily LeRf slanted. Oh well, it is what it is.

Not taking anything away from Freddy either.

I'll fall back on what I've said a few times already. If the likes of Pasta, Marchand, Debrusk, et.al insist on playing hero-puck, then I think TO will easily win. If they play a team game, not try to go 1-on-3, thread ridiculous passes through opponents sticks, shoot when the lane is open, crash the net, and play a simple grind it out game...then they can win. If they wanna play fancy pants and mistake laziness for composure, then the golf course will be awaiting them in short order. They'll need Linus and Sway to be their best. And just my shitty opinion, but Lauko and his one point every six games can have a seat on the 9th floor (sound and fury signifying nothing). And for God's sake stop turning the puck over coming out of their zone. It's maddening and they've been bitten by it so often this year. Just get the effing puck out of the zone already. TO will feast on that nonsense. Yeah, more than anything, the truest statement about the playoffs is that your best players need to be your best players. If not, then yout opponents have to have the same problem and then your secondary players can win for you. The turnovers and hero puck are one issue to me and not two. We saw that the last two games when Marchand going hero cost them an ENG vs Washington and then Pasta coat them and ENG vs Ottawa. I'll say this - the McAvoy was saw in the third against Ottawa is my favourite player now. That's the guy who almost single handedly won a WJHC gold when Chabot was trying to turn the trick for Canada. If that guy shows up against the Laffs? Bruins in 5.

You want to know why I'm kind of warming to the TO matchup?
Anthony Duclair.
I can see him being a gamechanger for the Bolts.
Consider that Stamkos has more goals that #Buston since they acquired Duclair. Combined, point and Stammer have 29 goals ainve they acquired Duclair. Duclair has 13 in 17 points since the deadline.
Duclair is a first round draft talent with 7th round mental consistency, but he snaps to when he has to prove something. He can be key in them winning a series. And he gets to stick it to his old team.
Ideally, Boston v TBags in round two, he blows that mojo and is the sleepy liability that 6 teams have given up on.

The Bruins have played well against both FLa and TB this season so I think they can give either a run for their money. But I really want them to sweep TO. It was so pathetic watching AM tonight hog the puck, shoot from everywhere, and try harder to score than to win the game. I want him to feel the pain once again of a first round loss. Side note: weird moment tonight when Tavares scored late in the game he turned his back to Matthew’s and skated away from him to celebrate. Bizarre.

A poll from The Toronto Sun earlier this evening: Will the Maple Leafs defeat the Boston Bruins in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs?Damn thing is Gryz sized but reads the following: 32.44% (230 votes) say yes. 67.56% (479 votes) say no. I'm among the 479.Total Votes: 709 so far. I'm gonna check it daily.
