I think the B's have an incredible opportunity and a somewhat unique situation.
If you think about the levels to a team, they have elite long-term solutions at goalie (Sway), at D (McAvoy)and at wing (Pasta). They are only lacking at one other core position of Center.
Ofcourse you still need quality players and depth at other spots but you need the foundational players first. Free agency and throughout the draft you can fill those spots.
So I'm willing to over pay big time (assets-wise) to get that center of the future if as GM you are convinced that guy is foundational and you project an 8 yr plus future with him.
While I value each of these assets individually, some combo of Debrusk, Lysell, Lorhei, Merk and a 1st should be on the table for a legit center. A center can take years upon years to find. Any of those trade chips are replaceable.

Quick peek at the Providence site today to check in on Lysell, but what really stood out is the laggards on that team. Some surprising guys doing the opposite of good things after high(er) expectations:
McLaughlin -- remember when we thought he should have made the team LAST year? Well this year he's 4-3-7 minus 7 in 46 games. Wow, that's horrible
Callahan --- after Diver and others really talking up his responsible meat and potatoes game and saying he was a guy who could get called up, he's 3-9-12 minus 6. Nobody was expecting offense from him, but the team is overwhelming in the positive which isn't a good look. Sounds like his defensive responsibility is perhaps not enough to offset what he doesn't bring in terms of puck movement
Reilly Walsh --- got a cup of coffee early on to see if he could stick, and his play in that opportunity is no different than it has been in Providence. Just not good enough defensively. 5-16-21 minus 7. .5 ppg is nice, but not when you can't keep the puck out of your net. That minus 7 is tied with Callahan for 2nd worst on the club. Glad we sent him down.
The positives --- outside of the obvious Merk/Lysell/Lohrei --- Brazeau out of nowhere with 35 pts in 45 and a whopping plus 23 games. Not bad for a former ECHL guy. And Farinacci with 29 in 45 games.
Regula, Brazeau, and Renouf are way out in front of the pack in terms of plus minus on this team which is interesting if nothing else.

And Farinacci with 29 in 45 games. Regula, Brazeau, and Renouf are way out in front of the pack in terms of plus minus on this team which is interesting if nothing else. I'd frame this as the longshots are still longshots. Nosferatu and Callahan were NCAA UFA fliers, right? Neither was ever drafted. You can't expect those guys to hit very often, and the Bruins were lucky once recently with Krug, and right now, Merkulov is trying to be more than one of those guys who dominates offensively in the AHL but just doesn't have the physical tools to play that game in the NHL. But anything they get out of either of those guys is gravy. Walsh was acquired for Bowers, who was acquired for Kincaid, who was signed as a veteran AHL backup. So the Bruins aren't out of pocket much for any of these guys - low cost, low risk. I've brought up Brazeau a few times in the past, going back to when the P-Bruins had a 700lb line of Koppanen, Brazeau and Tralmaks. The line had 40 goals and 88 points in about 51 games together. Koppanen was the only drafted guy - the other two were just big bodied minor leaguers. They worked very well together. I recall Drewski weighing in on what they looked like as a trio, but they averaged about 6'4 and 225. Brazeau's the only guy left, and it looks like he's continuing to progress. B's finally decided to let Koppanen walk, while Tralmaks quickly disappeared and is now in Kladno. Renouf and Regula are tweeners. Both have more than 20 NHL games spread over multiple seasons, but they haven't been able to stick, even for a Venti. In the same vein though, I'd tie the shame bell to: Harrison. Came in with an NHL shot and some thoughts that he might be a pandemic draft find - a scoring winger who dropped because scouts missed a year to watch him improve. Not so far. Don't know if he's been injured or scratched but he's only played about 2/3rds of the games in Providence. Toporowski. Bruins signed him after an AHL contract last year (IIRC), when he was about a 0.6 points/game guy. He's closer to 0.4 this year, but to be fair, that's both better than Harrison and he's an undrafted CHL UFA. Zboril. No goals in 27 games, 8 assists and -4. That reads like a guy who is playing out the string, depressed that a team that clearly doesn't want him can't even find a trade partner that will take him. He'll be in Kladno this time next year. Beecher. 1-1-2 and +6 in 6 games isn't terrible, but it's also not someone crashing through the door to be back in the NHL. Trevor Kuntar. The guy with everyone's favourite nickname isn't setting any houses on fire in his first pro season. Like Harrison, came advertised as a guy with a top notch release, but the numbers suggest it's not as top a notch as we might have hoped. And Kyle Keyser Soze. Captain Jack's buddy from the Generals never panned out as a CHL UFA. He looked like he was going to, but the US goalie from the 2019 WJHC has lost his spot on the P-Bruin roster to the Canadian goalie from the 2019 WJHC. Canada, of course, pooped themselves against Finland in the QF that year (like this year) and got nothing, while the US got silver (behind Cayden Primeau who took the net in the playoffs). I'm sure DiPietro now feels vindicated. Interesting how few former picks the Bruins have in the A right now. Just Lysell, Lohrei, Kuntar, Harrison, Brunet, Zboril and Beecher. The rest are prospect trades or signees, including both goalies and the top two scorers.

Is there a need for a shrewd trade by DS with the likes of Zacha or Hampus or is there the need to accept a higher end draft pick with the likes of Pasta, McAvoy, or Swayman in the near future? I tend to think the team has a solid core enough to make another significant trade to compete for the Cup. Does that handicap the Bs for the future? The prospect picture paints the story of the need to gather more picks. Screw the rankings as Lohrei and to lesser extent Lysell prove the pundit rankings amiss. Some on here say keep the 1st rounders, others say trade for a run at the cup. BTW I am very unaware of the potential draft prospects. I rely on Fletcher and others to help with the assessment.

Alec is 23, a second round pick, and has a steady career progression every year up until now leading the AHL in +/-. I'm surprised they haven't given him a look yet. He's a big boy and seems ideally suited to third pairing RD.

No but that doesn't make Beecher's AHL performance less disappointing. I would have liked to see more impact to prove his point.

I disagree on Regula/Ranouf. Dion's a career minor leaguer at 29 who's not going anywhere. Alec is 23, a second round pick, and has a steady career progression every year up until now leading the AHL in +/-. I'm surprised they haven't given him a look yet. He's a big boy and seems ideally suited to third pairing RD. once gryz Forbort depart next year Regula and Lohrei stup up full time - that is what I hope ... saves the cap situation for other needs ... like a center Not sure about Regula. Hawk fans were right about him. Some awful decisions in his own end.

Pretty bland player.

"Beecher. 1-1-2 and +6 in 6 games isn't terrible, but it's also not someone crashing through the door to be back in the NHL." Boqvist, Steen and Brown never did or do anything to overtake Beecher. No but that doesn't make Beecher's AHL performance less disappointing. I would have liked to see more impact to prove his point. But Beecher has never dotted the scoresheet. He's just not a points guy. His highest junior season was 25 points. His highest NCAA season was 16 points. He's always been a defensive center/two-way player, who slots in after the scorers. That he's +6 in 6 games Providence (with a couple points) should indeed be making his case. *This said with the disclaimer that I have not watched the games.

Beecher not playing for the B's could be as simple as a cap issue?

Beecher not playing for the B's could be as simple as a cap issue? Created and maintained by Sweeney. While forcing Monty to keep playing Grzelcyk.
